[INTRO]

Welcome to another all new Hard, Heavy & Hair Show! This one’s going to be… Epic!

—————————————-
Faith No More – Epic
—————————————-

Faith No More and the epic song that made the band an epic success for a few months in 1989 and 1990. Although, arguably, the poor fish at the end made a bigger impact on the public. Faith No More is still going strong, still blowing the roof off all around the world, but they’ve never again charted like they did with “Epic.”

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

On this week’s show I’ve got lots of brand new music, a musical tribute to Pete Way, an AMAZING Cover Song of the Week, and more 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands than you can shake a drum stick at!

Let’s get keep on walking that Rock N’ Roll road with Europe, Dokken, and then the number 1 Rock song in the world right now! First, cross yourself, knock on wood, or rub your lucky rabbit’s foot, ’cause we’re getting “Superstitious.”

—————————————-
Europe – Superstitious
Dokken – In My Dreams
—————————————-

“In My Dreams” from Dokken’s 1985 LP Under Lock and Key.

And this, this is the number one Rock song in the world for the third straight week. It’s the Pretty Reckless and “Death by Rock N’ Roll.”

—————————————-
The Pretty Reckless – Death By Rock And Roll
—————————————-

I love that song, though that line about a motorcycle crash hits a little close to home right now.

Brand new The Veer Union and your first Cover Song of the Week clue next!

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair. We’re on the “Highway to Hell” with AC/DC.

—————————————-
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
The Veer Union – Slaves To The System
—————————————-

That was brand new the Veer Union, “Slaves to the System.” It’s just the first of 6 brand new songs you’ll hear on this week’s show. One of those new releases is the Cover Song of the Week, so let’s get you your first clue.

The Cover Song of the Week is by the most hated band in the world doing a brand new, badass Hard Rock version of the most recognizable Country Rock song in the world. The original singer of that iconic Country Rock song did a lot in his career, including working as a session musician playing bass and guitar on three Bob Dylan albums, playing fiddle on a number of Marshall Tucker Band albums, and co-writing a song Elvis Presley would record before becoming a household name musician himself–largely for his Cover Song of the Week original.

Think about it. The first clue is always the hardest, and they just get easier from here.

You know what else becomes easier to get as the show goes on? My love gun. This is Kiss.

—————————————-
KISS – Love Gun
Kix – Same Jane
—————————————-

“Same Jane” from Kix, as suggested by Cork “Coolman” Fisher in the Hard, Heavy & Hair Facebook group. Oh, yeah. Did you know we have a group? There’s the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show Facebook PAGE, where I post funny Rock N’ Roll memes, sometimes not so funny Rock and Metal news, and where you can talk directly to me. I hope you’ll give the show page a like. It really helps.

But then there’s also the Hard, Heavy & Hair GROUP, which is a discussion group where Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Band fans from AND musicians all over the world post memes, music videos, and news stories, and discuss everything to do with loving Hard, Heavy, and Hairy music.

You can find links to both the page and the group in the show notes on PariahRocks.com for this, show number 266.

We’ll be back in a moment with a tribute to a great bass player and songwriter, Pete Way.

I’m recording this show less than 24-hours after the world lost one of the greats. On August 14th, just one week after his 69th birthday, Pete Way succumbed to injuries he endured in June.

Many of you know who Pete Way is. For those of you who don’t, he was best known as the bassist for UFO from 1969 through ’82, and then again, off and on, from ’91 through 2008. He is also half the name of the band Fastway, a duo with Fast Eddie Clarke, whom we lost in early-2018.

Pete was often called “Rock’s Most Dangerous Man,” a sobriquet he referenced in the title to his 2017 autobiography, A Fast Ride Out of Here: Confessions of Rock’s Most Dangerous Man.

Pete Way was a driving force in Hard Rock throughout his entire career, and he leaves behind a magnificent musical legacy. Let’s take a few minutes and listen to Pete playing on a trio of his most famous tracks. First up is “Love to Love” by UFO.

—————————————-
UFO – Love to Love
Waysted – Heaven Tonight
Fastway – Easy Livin’
—————————————-

That was a three-track tribute to Hard Rock and Metal legend Pete Way, who sadly passed away yesterday, as I record this show. You just heard three of the most famous tracks Pete played on. First was UFO and “Love to Love,” then “Heaven Tonight” from Pete’s band Waysted, and wrapping up with Fastway classic “Easy Livin’.”

We’ll be right back with more Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands.

Grab your significant other and let’s start this second hour with a ballad. This is Def Leppard, “Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad.”

—————————————-
Def Leppard – Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
Lion – Never Surrender
—————————————-

Rare hair from Lion, that was “Never Surrender” from ’87’s Dangerous Attraction LP.

Ready for your second Cover Song of the Week clue?

I mentioned previously that the artist doing the Cover Song of the Week is arguably the most hated band in the world. Part of the reason for that is because the band is accused of keeping the same sound across every record. The Cover Song of the Week, well, it AIN’T that same old sound.

What band is it? Well, it’s this band defended by Deadpool:

[Clip – Once Upon a Deadpool]

Whether you love or hate that band, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by their brand new Cover Song of the Week. The next clue will be about the song itself.

Right now, let’s check in on your Metal Health with Quiet Riot.

—————————————-
Quiet Riot – Metal Health
—————————————-

I don’t know if you heard, but Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali is in recovery after suffering a stroke and receiving two blood transfusions. Last year he received a cancer diagnosis, now a stroke. Frankie is the last original member of Quiet Riot still in the band. If he can’t continue… Well, without Kevin Dubrow or Frankie Banali, I think Quiet Riot should call it a day. No offense to the other current members–Jizzy Pearl, Chuck Wright, and Alex Grossi–or surviving classic lineup members Carlos Cavazo and Rudy Sarzo–but Frankie is the last remaining classic lineup and/or original member. And let’s face it: Quiet Riot hasn’t had the best luck with vocalists since Kevin passed away.

If Frankie can’t continue recording and touring, maybe it’s just time to let Quiet Riot remain a legendary band of the past.

What do you think? What’s your opinion on Quiet Riot? What if Carlos or Rudy wanted to comeback, with Jizzy singing, and someone else playing drums? Do you think the band should continue? If so, what form should that take–new recordings or just touring and playing the classics? I want to hear your thoughts. Reach out to me on Twitter and Instagram at-PariahRocks, and on Facebook via the show’s page at PariahRocksYou.

If you’d like to help Frankie and the Banali family with Frankie’s massive medical bills, there’s a GoFundMe Campaign to do just that. I’ve linked to the Frankie Banali Fight Cancer Fund GoFundMe in the show notes on PariahRocks.com. Every little bit helps.

Still coming up is brand new Royal Bliss, Halestorm, and Janet Gardner of Vixen gone solo.

From the 1992 followup to the Cherry Pie album, this is Warrant with “Machine Gun.”

—————————————-
Warrant – Machine Gun
Guns N’ Roses – Attitude
—————————————-

I want to thank the thousands of you who emailed or messaged me expressing your sympathy for my motorcycle accident a couple of weeks ago. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. I am well on the mend, and that’s in part because of the outpouring of love and support I received from all of you. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

The Hard, Heavy & Hair Show’s biggest fan, Jessica Frehley, as among those who reached out. Like me, Jessica’s had a rough couple of weeks, she writes. She asked me to play a song that I know always helps Jessica through some rough patches, but this time, Jessica dedicated the song to ME, to help ME through my recovery, too. She says, “like a wise person once said, ‘what doesn’t kill us, only makes us stronger.'”

How incredibly sweet. Thank you, Jessica. For you and me both, this is Steelheart “Loaded Mutha.”

—————————————-
Steelheart – Loaded Mutha
—————————————-

Brand new Halestorm and Royal Bliss are next.

Welcome back. I’m Pariah Burke. This is Hard, Heavy & Hair.

In between albums of new original music, Halestorm puts out albums of covers songs. Yesterday, they dropped another covers album, but this time, Halestorm covered themselves!

The new EP, titled Reimagined, includes a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” but the rest of the tracks are all reworked and stripped down previous Halestorm songs. Here’s one you’ll hear, the brand new stripped version of “Do Not Disturb.”

—————————————-
Halestorm – Do Not Disturb (Stripped)
Royal Bliss – Medication [Feat. Shim] —————————————-

Back-to-back new tracks. First brand new Halestorm, then Royal Bliss featuring Shim on the song “Medication.”

This is Poison, “Nothin’ but a Good Time.”

—————————————-
Poison – Nothin’ but a Good Time
Bad Wolves – Learn To Walk Again
—————————————-

Brand new Bad Wolves “Learn to Walk Again”… As I learn to talk again.

For your third and final clue, let’s talk about the Cover Song of the Week itself.

Like I said, it’s an ass-kicking, brand new Hard Rock cover of one of the most covered songs of all time. The Cover Song of the Week might be my new second favorite version of the iconic Country Rock song. Being originally from Boston, my number one all-time favorite cover version of the song is of course the one by Boston’s own the Adam Ezra Group. Here’s a clip from it. If you don’t know the Cover Song of the Week after hearing this clip, well, then clearly this is your first time ever turning on a radio.

[Clip – Adam Ezra Group – The Devil Came Up to Boston]

If you want to hear that entire song, I’ve embedded the hilarious music video into the show notes for show number 266 on PariahRocks.com.

That brand new, kick-ass Hard Rock Cover Song of the Week I’ve been hinting about is next.

[COW]

Did you guess the Cover Song of the Week? Of course you did: who wouldn’t pick up on all the clues I left about the song being “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” from session musician turned Country Rock icon, Charlie Daniels. Unfortunately, Charlie passed away in July, but we’re not here to dwell on his passing, but to celebrate his biggest hit.

And this week, it’s covered in a brand new Hard Rock release that is giving people hope that the most hated Rock band in the world might actually be evolving its sound. Whether you love them or hate them–and there doesn’t seem to be much in the middle–Nickelback is a polarizing band. One of the chief complaints from Haters is that Nickelback songs all sound the same, that the band doesn’t evolve its sound. Listen to this week’s Cover Song of the Week and tell me if it sounds like any of Nickelback’s other songs.

This is Nickelback with their brand new Hard Rock cover of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” followed immediately by the iconic Charlie Daniels Band original on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Nickelback – The Devil Went Down to Georgia
The Charlie Daniels Band – The Devil Went Down to Georgia
—————————————-

That was “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” the original by Charlie Daniels, following the brand new, ass-kicking Hard Rock version by Nickelback, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. I wonder if Nickelback is making a statement by covering that song.

What do you think? Connect with me on Twitter and Instagram @PariahRocks and on Facebook At-Pariah-Rocks-You. Give me a like on Facebook and let me know you care.

In preparing for this show, Tracy, one of my interns, sent me a meme, which I will now read to you:

The Devil whispered in my ear:

You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.

I whispered back:

At least I didn’t lose my golden fiddle to some hillbilly in Georgia.

[chuckle]

Are you ready? This is Disturbed.

—————————————-
Disturbed – Are You Ready
—————————————-

If you missed any part of this show, you can stream it again on-demand 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, from PariahRocks.com, that’s P-A-R-I-A-H-R-O-C-K-S-dot com.

My name is Pariah Burke, I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny host and producer. Thank you for joining me for this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. Don’t forget to check out the show notes on Pariahrocks.com for more about the music and topics on this show.

I’ll see you back here next week on this station for another all new Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. Playing us out is another brand new release, this one by the former frontwoman for Vixen, Janet Gardner. Now an official duo with her husband, guitarist and producer Justin James, this is Gardner-James and their new track “Running to Her.”
