Top 5 Most Underrated Metal Bands

Everybody knows about the top metal bands including Slipknot, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer and Megadeth. These bands have been making awesome music since the inception of metal. However, there are also bands that have done everything right except they do not seem to be rising in popularity like they deserve. Here is a list of the bands that have continued to make awesome music without getting fair attention.

5. Blind Guardian

This band was formed in 1984 in Krefeld, West Germany. While it is credited as being one of the most influential in the power metal and speed metal subgenres it hardly receives the recognition it deserves with regards to the world stage. Some of its members include  Hansi Kursch who is the lead singer, guitarists Andre Olbrich and Marcus Siepen and Frederik Ehmke who is also the drummist. Some of its most notable albums include Battalions of Fear, A Twist in the Myth and Beyond the Red Mirror.

4. Candlemass

If you have never heard of Candlemass you are not alone. However, the few people who have listened to some of its music can attest to the fact that it has some of the most powerful songs. Its performances are often electrifying and exciting. The band was formed in 1984 in Stockholm, Sweden. Its members include Leif Edling who is the bassist, Mats “Mappe” Björkman who plays the rhythm guitar and Mats Leven who is the lead singer. Some of its best albums include Candlemass, King of the Grey Islands and Psalms of the Dead.

3. Iced Earth

This band was birthed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida. It was first named the Rose but later had a change of name to Purgatory. After a short while the members changed its name to Iced Earth. Its members include Stu Block who is the lead vocalist, Jon Schaffer who plays the rhythm guitar, Brent Smedley who plays the drums and Luke Appleton who is also a bassist. Some of its notable albums include The Glorious Burden, Dystopia and Incorruptible.

2. Diamond Head

This band was formed in 1976 in Stourbridge, England. Most rock critics agree that the band played a pivotal role in the new wave of British heavy metal movement. And while it has managed to produce a number of albums and staged some of the most thrilling performances it hardly ever makes it to the limelight. Some of its members include Brian Tatler who plays the guitars, Rasmus Bom Andersen who is the lead vocalist, Dean Ashton who is the bassist and Karl Wilcox who plays the drums. Some of its most notable albums include Lightning to the Nations, All Will Be Revealed and Diamond Head.

1. Rainbow

This is definitely one of the most exceptional metal bands on this list. However, only a handful of metal fans admit to knowing about it. It was formed in 1975 in Hertfordshire, England. It was listed as ranked at 90 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band boasts of swelling a staggering 28 million records across the globe. The band’s live performances are often jam packed with fans from all walks of life. Some of its members include Ritchie Blackmore who was the founder and plays the lead guitar, Ronnie Romero who is the lead vocalist, David Keith who plays the drums and Jens Johansson who plays the keyboard. Some of its best albums include Bent Out of Shape and Stranger in Us All.
