[INTRO]

50 years of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands and 50,000 watts of power coming at you live, starting with Sammy Hagar’s “Heavy Metal.”

—————————————-
—————————————-

Ah, higher than high, feelin’ just right, call it the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host, Pariah Burke.

Thank you for rocking out with me.

This show’s got some big music for you including an all-hit Triple-Shot, a Rock Queen reaching back to 1988, a Metal-on-Metal Cover Song of the Week, new music by Blacktop Mojo, Thunder, Heaven & Earth and… Can you believe this? New music by [drum roll] Guns N’ Roses! Yes! You’re going to hear the first new Guns N’ Roses music to feature Axl AND Slash AND Duff since 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident!

That’s coming up in just a few minutes. Right now it’s time to get “Inside Out” with XYZ.

—————————————-
—————————————-

“Little Black Dress,” a deep cut from Heaven & Earth’s new album, V.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The Cover Song of the Week original is a Heavy Classic heard every day on Classic Rock stations around the world. It’s one of those songs musician’s especially can relate to because the lyrics talk about the grind of life on the road, touring constantly. And, it might help you figure out which such road weary ditty I’m talking about, it’s in the key of A Major.

More, and easier, clues later.

Let’s get some Sleaze Rock going on with Rhino Bucket and the next best thing to a squirter–“She’s a Screamer.”

Rock Queen of the Week is next. Don’t change that channel.

[Rock Queen of the Week]

This week’s Rock Queen of the Week is a real Femme Fatale. In fact, that’s the name of her band! Femme Fatale came together in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1987, signing with MCA Records and moving to Los Angeles the same year. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1988. Although work had begun on a new record, the band called it quits in 1990. That album would eventually see the light as 2016’s One More for the Road from FnA Records.

Back when two of their songs were in heavy rotation on MTV, Femme Fatale was all guys except for powerhouse singer, Lorraine Lewis–yes, the Lorraine Lewis who now fronts Vixen. Between 1990 and today, Lewis put out several solo albums and contributed to a number of projects in the Rock, Country, and even New Age genres. She briefly revived Femme Fatale as an all-woman band in 2013 before replacing Janet Gardner as lead vocalist of Vixen.

Lorraine Lewis is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Rock Queen of the Week. Here she is fronting Femme Fatale with “Waiting for the Big One.”

My friend Klaus, the “Naked Biker of Portland,” is moving on to a new phase in his life–retiring early to travel the world and engage in debauchery on every continent. Later tonight is his bon voyage party, but I’d also like to dedicate a song to him. Klaus, this one’s for you, man. Saddle up, go everywhere you want, and don’t come back until you touch the midnight sun! This is Poison, “Ride the Wind.”

—————————————-
—————————————-

My favorite kind of girlfriend, a “Bad Girlfriend,” by Theory of a Deadman following Whitesnake’s “Give Me All Your Love.”

If you need to run to the potty, make it fast, because that new Guns N’ Roses track is just moments away!

I’ve got that new Guns N’ Roses song for you right after a little warm up with 1982 Judas Priest. This is “Electric Eye.”

—————————————-
—————————————-

That was Guns N’ Roses, the first new song to feature Axl, Slash, and Duff McKagan since the 1993 covers album, the Spaghetti Incident. What do you think of that song? The song’s title is “Absurd,” and it’s actually a reworking of a piece called “Silkworms” that was left off the Chinese Democracy album. Curious what “Silkworms” sounded like? Well, I just happen to have a leaked copy of a 2010 demo–something you won’t hear ANYWHERE else than the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show (probably because most other DJs and PDs are afraid of going to jail for playing it). Here’s a little bit of the demo version of “Silkworms,” the unused track “Absurd” is based off.

—————————————-
—————————————-

What did you think of the new G N’ R song “Absurd”? Let me know your thoughts–and whether you liked me totally flipping off the FCC by playing part of the unreleased demo version of “Silkworms”–on social media. Everywhere but Facebook, I’m at @PariahRocks. On Facebook look for the Hard, Heavy & Hair page to send me a message.

If you’re still on the fence about the new Guns N’ Roses song “Absurd,” lean back and organize your thoughts while we groove to this 6-minute-and-30-second track from Krokus. From the certified-Gold Headhunter album in 1983, this is power ballad “Screaming in the Night”.

—————————————-
—————————————-

I’d like to share a little personal news with you. I’m going to start taking my health seriously from here on out. It’s recently come to my attention that the amount of whiskey I drink every day equals my maximum recommended calorie count. So, from here on out, I’m not going to be eating or drinking anything EXCEPT bourbon in an effort to live a healthier lifestyle.

Let’s take a quick break while I pour my dinner. We’ll be right back with a superstar Triple-Shot.

[Triple-Shot]

Bartender! Line ’em up! It’s time for a Triple-Shot! See if you can guess what all three of these songs have in common.

—————————————-
—————————————-

What do all three of those songs have in common? In order, you heard the Electric Boys with “All Lips N’ Hips,” “Dr. Feelgood” from Motley Crue, and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” What do all three have in common? They were all produced by, and heavily influenced by, superstar record producer Bob Rock. He would go on to work with all three bands–and many, many other artists–for years to come, and would even be Metallica’s touring bassist for a while in the early Aughties. So much great music has Bob Rock’s stamp on it.

Still coming up is lots of great Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Band even if they weren’t produced by Bob Rock. Stick around.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

This is the latest from Blacktop Mojo. The song is good, but the music video is truly bitchin’. Hit the show notes on Hard, Heavy & Hair for this, show number 317, to watch the music video for this next song. This is “Wicked Woman.”

—————————————-
—————————————-

A deep cut from Kiss’s ’92 Revenge album, that was “Take It Off,” which was co-written by Kane Roberts. Have you checked out the Kiss album showdown tournament being run by our very own Greg Troyan on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Facebook page? If you haven’t, you should.

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

This week’s Cover Song of the Week is a new Hard Rock cover of one of the biggest Metal Classics ever put on wax. It features three singers trading off–the first singer has always had a rage against the machine; another leads a band once known as Mookie Blaylock before changing their name and becoming one of the biggest headliners of Grunge; and the third singer on this cover… Well, he’s the Boss–everywhere, not just New Jersey.

Think about it. This is__________________

—————————————-
—————————————-

For your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue, let’s talk again about the song itself. Earlier, in the Triple-Shot, we payed homage to record producer Bob Rock. It was another superstar producer, Mutt Lange, who produced the Cover Song of the Week original. Lange is often cited as a major reason the album became as huge as it did. But that’s not the clue.

The song is the title track to a 1979 masterpiece that, sadly, was the last album to feature the band’s original singer, who passed away six months after the record’s release. He took the stairway to heaven, even as his voice rang out on AM and FM radios around the world about being on a road going in the other direction.

Think you know what song I’m talking about? Find out if you’re right in the Cover Song of the Week, next!

[COW]

Did you figure out the Cover Song of the Week? In addition to the three overt clues, I’ve been dropping a few hints throughout the show–most recently the liner where in I played a clip of the actual Cover Song of the Week right after a snippet of Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.” Tara even named the song.

So, if it’s the opposite of a stairway to heaven, the song must be AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” the title track to the Mutt Lange-produced masterpiece that would be Bon Scott’s final album with the band.

“Highway to Hell” is the original, which you’ll hear immediately after a brand new cover version that sees a man with a rage against the machine–Tom Morello–teaming up with the singer for a band named after basketball player Mookie Blaylock before changing their name to Pearl Jam–Eddie Vedder–and the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen. Morello, Vedder, and Springsteen–three men well-acquainted with the hell of life on the road as a touring musician–all take turns singing and playing on their rendition of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell”, which is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

—————————————-
—————————————-

“Highway to Hell” by AC/DC, the original version, following the brand new cover by Tom Morello, Bruce Springsteen, and Eddie Vedder, which is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Here’s the newest by the Dead Daisies, the single version of “My Fate,” a song I first played on Hard, Heavy & Hair back in January, and which I predicted the band would eventually release as a single.
