Dio – Stand Up and Shout
—————————————-

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

For the next two hours–

[Clip – Weird Science – Chips Dips Chains and Whips] [Clip – Bill & Teds 1 – Excellent] [Clip – Hunt for Red October – This Will Get Out of Control, Lucky to Live Through It]

–with the best Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today. I’ll tell you specifically some of the things you can expect after “Skygazer” from the Resurrection Kings supergroup featuring former Bonham vocalist Chas West, Dio guitarist Craig Goldy, Sean McNabb on bass, and Vinny Appice pounding the hell out of the skins.

Resurrection Kings – Skygazer
Winger – Poison Angel

“Poison Angel” from Winger.

Coming up on the show is new music from Robin McAuley, Blackberry Smoke, and Dirkschneider, among others, plus a killer Triple-Shot, and hits and deep cuts from Sabbath, XYZ, Kiss, Disturbed, and plenty more!

This is AC/DC “Who Made Who”.

Stay right where you are. Female Fronted is next!

[Female Fronted]

This week’s Female Fronted requires no introduction of the song, the singer, or her singing partner… But broadcasting rules say I have to introduce them. This is “Close My Eyes Forever” from Lita Ford with Ozzy Osbourne on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Female Fronted.

—————————————-
Lita Ford – Close My Eyes Forever
The Scream – Man In The Moon
—————————————-

“Man in the Moon” from the Scream, fronted way back in 1991 there, by John Corabi, who would go on to membership in Motley Crue, Brides of Destruction, the Dead Daisies, and others.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The original song was inspired by the teachings of American psychology Arthur Janov and his Primal Therapy treatment, which was about helping people confront their fears by screaming and shouting. The songwriters and original recording artists, were followers of Janov’s school of Primal Therapy, as was John Lennon. Lennon was inspired by Primal Therapy to write several songs, but the band I’m talking about, the band who wrote the Cover Song of the Week original, went much deeper and further. Not only was the song written about primal therapy, but the band also took their name from Janov’s work.

What band was that? Here’s another clue: They were huge on Top 40 Radio in the 80s.

More, and easier, clues later.

Here’s a pair of songs guaranteed to get your foot moving from Def Leppard and Cinderella.

—————————————-
Cinderella – Nothin’ for Nothin’
Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar on Me
—————————————-

“Pour Some Sugar on Me” following “Nothin’ for Nothin’,” a deep cut from their 1986 debut album, Night Songs.

Coming up is a new song by Robin McAuley of Black Swan and McAuley-Schenker Group, and the sweet story behind the first song Robin ever wrote for his wife of 28 years.

Welcome back to Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Recently I had a conversation with Robin McAuley, a rock star vocalist of the highest order, whom you know from Grand Prix, McAuley-Schenker Group, Raiding the Rock Vault, Black Swan, and more. In between talking about what he’s doing on the upcoming second Black Swan record, his first solo album since 1999’s Business as Usual, and other topics, Robin told me the sweet story behind his newest single, “Last December,” the first song he’s ever written for his wife of 28 years.

[Clip – Robin McAuley – Story of ‘Last December’]

You can listen to–or watch–my entire interview with Robin McAuley at PariahRocks.com slash Interviews, or on YouTube at YouTube.com slash PariahRocks. (Like and subscribe while you’re there to catch all my interviews with the biggest rock stars of today and yesterday.)

For right now, here’s that song Robin and I were just discussing. This is “Last December.”

—————————————-
Robin McAuley – Late December
Blackberry Smoke – All Rise Again [ft. Warren Haynes] —————————————-

Another newer one there. That was Blackberry Smoke featuring Warren Haynes from Gov’t Mule and the Allman Brothers Band on the song “All Rise Again.” If you like good Southern Hard Rock, checkout Blackberry Smoke’s new record–their seventh studio album–You Hear Georgia. Spin that, and I guarantee, you WILL hear Georgia.

This is Britny Fox, “Girlsschool,” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Britny Fox – Girlschool
—————————————-

Up next is the Triple-Shot, three songs related to one another by… something. See if you can figure out the common thread that ties them together before your friends can, and before I tell you what connects them after the songs.

[Triple-Shot]

—————————————-
Xyz – Come On N’ Love Me
Black Sabbath – Electric Funeral
Bon Jovi – Livin’ on a Prayer
—————————————-

The Hard, Heavy & Hair Triple-Shot, three songs related by a common thread. What is that thread? You have a few more seconds to guess while I tell you who and what you just heard.

In order, you heard XYZ with “Come On N’ Love Me” followed by Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” to form the dark center of the sandwich, and finally Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” topping it off. What do all three songs have in common? They all feature a wah effect from a wah-wah pedal.

I’ve got another new song for you right another Cover Song of the Week clue.

For your second clue, let’s talk about the Heavy Metal band doing the cover.

On June 3rd, Billboard ranked this band number 5 on the list of Greatest of All Time Mainstream Rock Artists. On the list they sit between Van Halen at number 4 and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at number 6. And what’s really interesting is that this Metal band has only been around since 2000, when they released their debut album containing the Cover Song of the Week, which has since gone platinum five times.

Here’s a bonus hint: Another song from that debut album, from the band doing the Cover Song of the Week, contributed a distinctive part to the opener of this very show. If you’re a longtime listener to Hard, Heavy & Hair, you’ve undoubtedly heard this many times:

[clip from opener]

One of those bands you just heard is the artist performing the Cover Song of the Week this.

More clues later.

Don’t change that dial. There’s plenty more old favorites and new favorite Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair still coming up!

Whether you like the Black Album and later work or not, you have to laugh at these Metallica memes that basically say they died or sold out after 1988. Whether you like the new stuff or not, you have to love this. From 1984, this is “Ride the Lightning.”

—————————————-
Metallica – Ride the Lightning
Dirkschneider & The Old Gang – Face of a Stranger
—————————————-

That was “Face of a Stranger,” the latest from Udo Dirkschneider & The Old Gang.

We’re getting close to the Cover Song of the Week. Think you’ve got it figured out yet?

Welcome back. This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

This is the show you turn to when you just need to tear out a primal scream!

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Primal Scream
Lowerline – Heavy Waters
—————————————-

“The Fallen” is the newest single from the upcoming second solo album by David Readman, the voice of Voodoo Circle, Pink Cream 69, and Adagio.

—————————————-
David Readman – The Fallen
Dokken – Tooth and Nail
—————————————-

For your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue, let’s see if you can identify the song being covered by the lyrics I read?

Ready?

In violent times
You shouldn’t have to sell your soul
In black and white
They really, really ought to know

Know those lyrics? Can you place them in a song? Can you remember what 80s Pop duo wrote and originally recorded the song, AND, can you remember what huge Heavy Metal act most famously covered the song? If you have all those answers, then you’ve solved the Cover Song of the Week mystery for this week.

Let’s see if you’re right in the Cover Song of the Week feature next.

[COW]

Have you guessed the Cover Song of the Week, the original artist, and the covering artist? Let’s see.

Primal therapy is a trauma-based pyschotherapy technique that leads a patient through re-experiencing childhood trauma and venting that pain through screaming and shouting. It apparently helped John Lennon, who underwent it in the early-1970s. Pianist Roger Williams and actor James Earl Jones were also big fans. As were Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the duo that would name their band Tears for Fears because of Primal Therapy, which also inspired the lyrics to one of their most popular songs.

Shout, shout, let it all out is 100% primal therapy, as is the rest of the song “Shout” from 1985’s Songs from the Big Chair LP. That album title, by the way, was inspired by the movie Sybil starring Sally Field in which the titular character finds comfort in a psychiatrist’s chair while being treated for her multiple personality disorder, one of the 16 of which was a frightened little girl.

With a genesis like that for the song “Shout,” is it any wonder that a band named Disturbed would choose to cover the song on their debut album titled Sickness?

Although they dubbed it “Shout 2000,” here is Disturbed with their cover of Tears for Fears’ “Shout,” followed immediately by the original for comparison.

—————————————-
Disturbed – Shout 2000
Tears for Fears – Shout (Single Version)
—————————————-

That was “Shout,” the original by Tears for Fears, following the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week by Disturbed.

In case you didn’t pick up on it, there were many hints to the Cover Song of the Week throughout the preceding hour and a half of the show. It wasn’t just the three overt clues I gave. Everything from the opening the song by Dio to the themes, titles, and even band names of many other songs throughout the show should have guided you toward solving the Cover Song of the Week mystery.

This song has nothing to do with the Cover Song of the Week. It’s just pure sex and Rock N’ Roll. This is KISS, “Love Gun” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

KISS – Love Gun
