I was talking to this guy Aaron about modern female fronted Hard Rock bands. I was telling Aaron about Reality Suite, whom I interviewed last week–the whole band. You can watch that interview at PariahRocks.com slash interviews. Aaron pointed me to this next band, Damone. They’re from Waltham, Massachusetts, right outside my original hometown of Boston. But, last I’d heard, they’d broken up back in 2008. Turns out, they recently got back together, with a slightly different lineup. In honor that, I’m playing Aaron’s favorite Damone song on Female Fronted. This is “Out Here All Night,” which you know I’ll be, baby.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.
The Cover Song of the Week was written by 1950s Australian Country singer Geoff Mack, but you won’t hear the Geoff Mack version following the new Hard and Heavy cover version. In 1962 an American Country singer, Hank Snow, released a variant cover version of the song. Geoff Mack’s original lyrics included Australian references and slang, but for his version, Snow Americanized those lyrics. It’s Hank Snow’s version that is covered in a 2021 Hard Rock version in the first single by a brand new supergroup.
So, I ask you: What now famous Country standard did Geoff Mack write, but Hank Snow adapt into a recognized U.S. version? That’s the Cover Song of the Week original.

First was Van Halen with “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love,” then “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC, and finally Hinder and “All American Nightmare.” All three songs are about my favorite activity, which I love even more than playing music. That’s right, on this show that has a WAY higher than normal rate of f-bombs, that was a Triple-Shot about fucking.

Your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue is a musical clue. Remember I said that the very first rendition of the song was Australian and later rewritten into an American version by Hank Snow? Here’s the opening verse of the Australian version, performed by the band Lucky Starr who made it famous.
[clip]That was the Australian version of the Cover Song of the Week original. The U.S. version by Hank Snow replaces Aussie slang and locations with American terms and locations, but the cadence, notes, and most of the lyrics remain the same between the two. That should be enough for you to guess this Country standard most recently covered in a Hard and Heavy version by a brand new supergroup in this week’s Cover Song of the Week coming up… next!
[COW]How did you do at guessing the Cover Song of the Week? Think you’ve got it?
Releasing this month on Netflix is the action-thriller film “The Ice Road,” starring Liam Neeson, Laurence Fishburne, and Amber Midthunder. As you might expect from a film about Canadian ice road truckers, the movie’s soundtrack is full of Country music songs by Johnny Cash, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, and others. But one song stands out from the rest. It’s a cover of an old Country standard, but done by a brand new supergroup of Metal musicians.
Debuting themselves with their cover of “I’ve Been Everywhere,” a song written by Aussie Geoff Mack but Americanized by Hank Snow, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week is by the L.A. Rats, comprising Nikki Sixx, Rob Zombie, John 5, and Tommy Clufetos. Here’s the L.A. Rat’s 4-minute Hard and Heavy cover, followed immediately by the 1962 Hank Snow U.S. version original clocking in at only 2 and a half minutes.

That was an old, old Country song called “I’ve Been Everywhere”. That was actually the U.S. version Hank Snow adapted from the original Australian edition. The song has been covered more than 130 times, mostly by Country music stars like Johnny Cash, but most recently, as you heard right before it, in a new hard and heavy version by Rob Zombie, Nikki Sixx, John 5, and Tommy Clufetos coming together as the new supergroup L.A. Rats. Their version of “I’ve Been Everywhere” is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.
