[INTRO]

Whatever time it is where you are, it’s 7 o’clock and time for a party with the Quireboys.

—————————————-
The Quireboys – 7 O’Clock
—————————————-

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

Coming up on this show is new music by A Rising Force, Eclipse, the Picturebooks with Lzzy Hale, Renaissance Rock Orchestra, and more.

Speaking of RRO, I’ll be interviewing the creator and composer of Renaissance Rock Orchestra, Rock and Metal keyboardist Gregg Fox. That’s coming up this hour.

And speaking of interviews, the tables were turned on me this week when I was a guest on the Dear Bands Live video series by Mike Langford, the drummer for Tense Machine and Deadset Society, and a popular Toronto-based music producer. If you’re a musician, do yourself a favor and look for Dear Bands Live on YouTube–the entire show and series, but especially for the episode in which Mike interviews me. I spill some serious industry secrets about how to get your music on the radio, and the common things band’s do wrong when submitting music for radio play that ensures no one, not even the programming director or on-air talent, hears their music. And, of course, how to prevent your tunes from instantly being deleted.

That’s Dear Bands Live episode 33 on YouTube.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The Cover Song of the Week original is from 1991, from one of the biggest albums of that year. It was originally going to be the album’s title track and first single, but a last minute request for a “Pour Some Sugar on Me”- or “Love in an Elevator”-style Rock anthem by then president of Columbia Records, Don Ienner (eye-ner) , inspired a new song, one written in 15 minutes on a pizza box. It’s a song that would supplant the Cover Song of the Week original as the album’s title track. That substitute, which catapulted the band to mega stardom in the age of MTV, became synonymous with the band, while the Cover Song of the Week original, originally titled “I Know a Secret,” still became a fan favorite when it was released as the album’s third single in the Spring of 1991.

That’s a tough clue, one for hardcore fans of Rock trivia.

More, and easier, clues later.

This is a tribute to AC/DC by Lemmy Kilmister and guitarist Jake E. Lee. I mean, just listen to that wailing guitar! “It’s a Long Way to the Top” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Stick around, a brand new song is coming in Female Fronted.

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

[Female Fronted]

This week on Female Fronted is a brand new single dropped today by the two-piece band the Picturebooks, and featuring guest vocals by Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.

Kiss – All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose
—————————————-

Kiss, “All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose”. Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

The covering artist is a Minnesota Hard Rock band that just released its debut LP on High Vol Music, and you might not yet be aware of them. So instead of giving you a clue about the covering artist, let me give you a clue about the original recording artist. It’s a band best known for things like “having a smile, ten miles wide,” keeping “32 pennies in a Ragu jar,” and “heading out, to where the down boys go.”

Who was that artist?

More clues later.

This next song features some of my favorite musicians–including two I recently spoke to on the air, and one I’m about to talk to after the song. Featuring George Lynch on guitar, Brian Tichy on drums, the amazing voice of Robin McAuley, as well as Steve Conley, Michael Bones Berbino, and, of course, Gregg Fox, this is the Renaissance Rock Orchestra with the song “The Author of Mystery.”

[Interview: Gregg Fox of Renaissance Rock Orchestra]

That’s only part of my interview with Gregg Fox. If you’d like to hear more from Gregg Renaissance Rock Orchestra, his influences and collaborators, the Rock scene in Las Vegas, and Gregg’s 7 years spent sailing around the Bahamas, check out my full video interview with Gregg at PariahRocks.com slash interviews

For now, let’s give a listen to the newest single from RRO. This is “In My Lovin’ Arms,” featuring that Michael James Romeo guitar solo.

We have to break for a station identification, but don’t you go anywhere, because an intoxicating Triple-Shot is coming up next.

[Triple-Shot] —————————————-
the Pretty Reckless – My Medicine
Bobaflex – Mama (Don’t Take My Drugs Away)
Wildstreet – Tennessee Cocaine
—————————————-

Some Triple-Shots make you think, some don’t. I think the connection between those three songs is pretty obvious. You just heard, in order, “My Medicine” from the Pretty Reckless’s 2011 album, Light Me Up. After that was Bobaflex and “Mama (Don’t Take My Drugs Away),” followed by Wildstreet and the very subtle “Tennessee Cocaine.”

Let’s get back to a more innocent kind of Hard Rock. This is another AC/DC tribute, this time, AC/DC paying tribute to themselves with “Thunderstruck.”

—————————————-
AC/DC – Thunderstruck
—————————————-

I gotta tell you, I am thunderstruck by all the love and devotion of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Heroes, our Patreon supporters. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You guys and gals really are heroes to Hard, Heavy & Hair. I want to welcome our latest hero, Mitch Brock. Welcome, Mitch!

A big welcome, too, to the newest station airing the show, Rockaway Radio in Ohio.

While I’m at it, I’d also like to take a moment to welcome the newest members of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Team. Michelle and Ann joined the team two weeks ago, and NV started this week. Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Team!

If you’ll indulge me just a little further, I want to wish another member of the Team a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Sadie. We miss you.

Still coming up is Winger, In This Moment, A Rising Force, and more. Don’t change that dial!

Welcome back. I don’t know about you, but my love is ALWAYS “Stranger Than Paradise.” This is the Sleeze Beez.

—————————————-
Sleeze Beez – Stranger Than Paradise
Eclipse – Saturday Night (Hallelujah)
—————————————-

Brand new from Eric Martin and Eclipse, that was “Saturday Night (Hallelujah)”.

Whatever you think, come on, little baby, let’s “Call It Rock N’ Roll” with Great White.

—————————————-
Great White – Call It Rock ‘n’ Roll
—————————————-

Another Cover Song of the Week clue, more new tracks, more old favorites, still coming up.

During the break I hit Facebook and noticed that a smokin’ hot woman I went to high school with posted photos of her gleefully defiling and then burning her wedding dress because her divorce just came through. Being the sensitive guy I am, I told her to reach out to me if she needs a shoulder to put her legs on.

This next–And I just got a DM from her… [laughs]. Looks like I’ll be consoling the new divorcee. In honor of that, here’s a song perfect for the occasion.

—————————————-
BulletBoys – Kissin’ Kitty
—————————————-

Remember ladies: To hell with Prince Charming. Go for the wolf. He can see you better, hear you better, and eat you better (ow-ow-awooo!)

—————————————-
In This Moment – Big Bad Wolf
Dokken – It’s Not Love
—————————————-

Ready for your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue?

Just for the record, let’s set the story straight. The song is not about the classic novel of the same name by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It’s a secret I just can’t tell. So you and me get down, listen’ real hard that we wouldn’t make a sound, running through the songs back to Pariah’s shack, where the full moon shines through the CD racks.

Do you know the secret that I just can’t tell? Do you know who put the bodies in the wishin’ well?

Don’t tell! Keep your mouth shut, that’s what I’m gonna do, ’cause this is the very last clue.

The Cover Song of the Week is next.

[COW]

So, what song was originally called “I Know a Secret”? It was also going to be the title of Warrant’s second album until the head of their label at Columbia Records asked Jani Lane to write a catch Rock anthem like Aerosmith’s “Love in an Elevator” and Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me.” That song Jani wrote was, of course, “Cherry Pie,” replacing Warrant fan’s second favorite single as the title track. That song that would have been first was renamed from “I Know a Secret” to “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

Here with a brand new cover of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” is a new Minnesota quartet calling themselves A Rising Force. The original Warrant “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” follows the surprisingly good new cover.

A Rising Force – Uncle Tom’s Cabin
Warrant – Uncle Tom’s Cabin
—————————————-

That was “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” the original by Warrant, following the new cover version by A Rising Force, which is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Here’s something else brand new. From the swan song album by Dennis DeYoung, former Styx writer and singer, this is “The Last Guitar Hero” featuring Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine.
