[INTRO]

Buckle up, ’cause tonight the devil can ride on the “Highway to Hell.” This is AC/DC.

—————————————-
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
—————————————-

Thank you for tuning in. My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host, and we are most certainly on the highway to hell with new tracks by Black Spiders, Primal Fear, Motorjesus, and Trucker Diablo, as well as a killer triple-shot, a new Female Fronted, and hits and deep cuts from Ozzy, Van Halen, Warrant, and more!

This is Hard, Heavy & Hair Show number 301, and I’m titling it “Devil Rider,” because of songs like this one.

—————————————-
Twisted Sister – Ride to Live, Live to Ride
Stonetrip – Runaway
—————————————-

From Melbourne, Australia, that was Stonetrip with new single “Runaway” coming up fast on the loud pipes of Twister Sister’s “Ride to Live, Live to Ride.”

After last week’s massive 3-hour 300th Hard, Heavy & Hair Show the weather turned gorgeous–sunny and 80 degrees–so I hopped on my Fat Boy, rode up to Long Beach, Washington, and camped a couple of nights on the beach. There’s nothing like waking up at dawn a few yards from the water. Nothing except being on a bad motor scooter and riding along that beach.

This is Montrose keeping both wheels turning.

—————————————-
Montrose – Bad Motor Scooter
—————————————-

Oh, yeah.

We gotta do a station identification, but don’t go anywhere, because Female Fronted is next.

Welcome back. This is a feature I call Female Fronted. This week, I’m spinning for you something new from a friend of mine. I’ll let her introduce herself.

[Female Fronted]

—————————————-
Upon Wings – Eternal Way
—————————————-

That was the newest from Upon Wings. The song is called “Eternal Way.” Next up is Ozzy, but before that, it’s your first Cover Song of the Week clue.

Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The cover is from a four-piece Los Angeles band that formed and got big at the height of Glam Metal in the late-80s. Before fronting this well-known band, however, the lead singer briefly sang for King Kobra, and before that, played guitar in a pre-signed lineup of Ratt, and then in the Motown Hard Rock band Kagny and the Dirty Rats. He also auditioned to play guitar for this next guy’s band after the passing of Randy Rhoads. Who is that guitarist and singer? What band is he most famous for fronting? If you know, then you know who’s doing the Cover Song of the Week.

More, and easier, clues later.

This is Ozzy, “Flying High Again.”

—————————————-
Ozzy Osbourne – Flying High Again
Warrant – Cherry Pie
Trucker Diablo – Slow Dance
—————————————-

A trio of songs to get your blood boiling. You heard Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” by request for Nick in Lakeland, Florida, and then a fast song about dancing slowly, the newest from Trucker Diablo, the song “Slow Dance.” That’s the new single from their album Tail End of a Hurricane, which will be out May 7th. It’s a killer album, so make sure you check it out when it drops May 7th directly from Trucker Diablo. The band has given me permission to play anything from the album, so maybe I’ll sneak another track onto next week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, too.

More Hard Rock, more Heavy Metal, and more Hair Bands on the way!

Welcome back. I’m Pariah Burke. I’m your “Turbo Lover.”

—————————————-
Judas Priest – Turbo Lover
—————————————-

For your second Cover Song of the Week clue, let’s talk about the original recording artist.

He’s a unique character in music with his gravelly voice and experimental Jazz and Blues songs that one critic described as “about wounded people with just a few drops of dream left.”

If that doesn’t help you identify the original songwriter and singer, maybe this clip from his most famous single will.

[Clip – Downtown Train]

Here’s a double-shot of new music, starting with Motorjesus, “Drive Through Fire.”

—————————————-
Motorjesus – Drive Through Fire
Primal Fear – Second to None
—————————————-

That was the band Primal Fear with “Second to None.”

This is Skid Row, “Riot Act,” which is going to lead us into the second hour of the show.

—————————————-
Skid Row – Riot Act
—————————————-

[Triple-Shot]

I’m going to play for you three songs back-to-back-to-back. All three are connected by something–even the brand new song you’re going to hear. See if you can figure out what connects them before I tell you.

First up is King Kobra, “Iron Eagle (Never Say Die)”.

—————————————-
King Kobra – Iron Eagle (Never Say Die)
Fastway – Trick or Treat
Corey Taylor, Lzzy Hale, Scott Ian, Dave Lombardo, Fil Eisler, Tina Guo – Thunder Force
—————————————-

That was your triple-shot for this show. Three songs connected by… something. What connects them? Did you figure it out? Of course you did. I know you, dude. And you’re absolutely right: all three songs are the title tracks from original soundtracks. The first song, “Iron Eagle (Never Say Die)” by King Kobra, was the theme song to the 1986 film Iron Eagle starring Jason Gedrick and Louis Gossett, Jr. Also featured on the Iron Eagle soundtrack were George clinton, Dio, Helix, Eric Martin of Mr. Big, and Queen.

The middle song was the title track to the horror movie Trick or Treat, also from 1986, and featuring cameos from the likes of Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne, and a full soundtrack by Fastway, including that track you just heard.

The third shot is a new song featuring Corey Taylor, Lzzy Hale, Scott Ian, Dave Lombardo, Fil Eisler, and rockstar cellist Tina Guo, and it’s the title track and theme song to the new Netflix super hero parody Thunder Force.

If you liked the triple shot, check out the Hard, Heavy & Hair 300th Show podcast. The entire show is sets of three songs all related by theme, one of the musicians, a Rock N’ Roll history fact, or something else you’ll like. You can stream that show on-demand at PariahRocks.com and using the MixCloud mobile app. That’s also the show with my exclusive interview with Reb Beach, guitarist for Whitesnake and Winger.

Someone else I recently interviewed is the guy doing the guitar solo in this next song. This is Roxanne featuring George Lynch. It’s “Super Bad.”

—————————————-
Roxanne – Super Bad (ft. George Lynch)
Scorpions – No One Like You
—————————————-

The Scorpions, “No One Like You.” Stick around for more rubber-burning, wall-shaking badass music from the best of the best and the newest of the newest.

Here’s something brand new from Social Disorder. This is “Windy Road.”

—————————————-
Social Disorder – Windy Road
Thundermother – Roadkill
Dokken – Into the Fire
—————————————-

Dokken, “Into the Fire,” following “Roadkill” from Thundermother.

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue? Here it comes.

For your third and final clue, let’s talk about the Cover Song of the Week itself. The song is a lyrical ode–almost a prayer–to the patron saint who protects travelers as the song’s protagonist drives hard through the night in a dangerously suped-up hotrod. In fact, the title of the song is telling this saint himself to “hang on”.

What song is that? Find out real soon on the Cover Song of the Week!

Right now, this is Sammy Hagar, “I Can’t Drive 55.”

—————————————-
Sammy Hagar – I Can’t Drive 55
Electric Boys – It’s Not The End
—————————————-

“It’s Not the End,” the gut wrenching newest from the Electric Boys. Their new album, Ups!de Down, will be out April 29th on Mighty Music. Visit PariahRocks.com slash Conny Bloom for my interview with the frontman, guitarist, and lead songwriter for the Electric Boys. Conny’s a very interesting guy, and the story he told about playing Led Zeppelin in front of Led Zeppelin is worth checking out all by itself.

Another artist I recently talked to, but one whose interview I haven’t yet published, is Reid Henry of My Darkest Days and Deadset Society, now doing some killer solo work, like this next track, “A Special Place.”

—————————————-
Reid Henry – A Special Place I
Van Halen – Unchained
—————————————-

“Unchained” by Van Halen.

Do you know what’s next? Next is the answer to the mystery we’ve been talking about the entire show. Are you ready for the truth? You’d better be, because the Cover Song of the Week is next!

[COW]

Have you figured out the Cover Song of the Week? What about the original artist or the covering artist?

Let’s start with the original recording artist, that singer, songwriter, and actor I told you had such a gravelly voice in his experimental Blues and Jazz songs. Could you have thought it was anyone but Tom Waits?

On the 1987 album Franks Wild Years, Tom Waits released an ode to the patron saint of travelers, a song effectively begging St. Christopher’s blessing while the protagonist raced through the night, bound for Reno, Nevada, in a dangerously suped up hotrod. Only three years later, for their sophomore album, Freakshow, the BulletBoys would cover the song in a single that would peak at number 22 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in the U.S.

The BulletBoys, of course, were founded by, and have always been fronted by, Marq Torien, former member of Motown Hard Rock band Kagny and the Dirty Ratts, and former guitarist for the band Ratt before Ratt was signed with Time Coast Music.

Without further adieu, here’s the Cover Song of the Week, “Hang On St. Christopher,” first by the BulletBoys with the sweet, bluesy guitar work, and then right after, the original version by Tom Waits.

—————————————-

Tom Waits – Hang On St. Christopher
—————————————-

That was “Hang On St. Christopher” , the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. That was the original version by Tom Waits following the BulletBoys’ cover.

Keeping with the drivin’ and ridin’ theme, this is Cinderella deep cut “Hell on Wheels” from Night Songs.

My name is Pariah Burke, I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny host and producer. Thank you for joining me for this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

Next week, you’ll get to hear my interview with Chez Kane, an 80s Rock songstress who studied at the feet of Lita Ford and Pat Benatar, but who, through a terrible twist of fate, was frozen in her early 20s in cryogenic sleep chamber for the last 35 years, only to be defrosted and awoken by the lead singer of Crazy Lixx just just in time to bring the world an album full of much needed hopeful, energetic, totally fun 80s Hard Rock.

I’ll see you back here next week for that interview with Chez Kane, and the rest of the two hours of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands, from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today.

Legendary guitarist Steve Vai is going to play us out with a short instrumental piece titled, appropriately, “Drive the Hell Out of Here” from 2002.
