[INTRO]

That’s right, Tara! And we will, we will rock you! Let’s kick the can off with Warrant.

—————————————-
Warrant – We Will Rock You
—————————————-

I will abso-f’n-lutely rock you with new music by Mammoth WVH, Mason Hill, Manafest, and Budderside with Carla Harvey, among others, as well as hits and deep cuts from old favorites Van Halen, Metallica, Great White, AC/DC, and Motley Crue with John Corabi, also among others.

In case you’re brain-damaged and didn’t figure it out for yourself, I’m Pariah Burke, your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host for this, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show number 298. Which, again, going with the possibility of brain damage, is only 2 shows before the massive, out of this world, 300th episode spectacular!

Trust me, you are not going to want to miss that 300th show. It’s loaded with surprises, and it’s actually going to be–on some stations and definitely in streaming–3 hours instead of the usual 2-hours of the best Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Band hits, deep cuts, and rarities you’ve ever heard from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today!

So big is the 300th, that I don’t have to hold anything back from this show or the next! This show is also big, huge, stupendous, monumental, and… Uh. I could come up with more exciting adjectives if I hadn’t already polished off a metric fifth of Wild Turkey 101 Kentucky Bourbon, a brand that should really sponsor this show given how much of their product I imbibe every week on the air.

Of course, the more I drink, the more my vocabulary abridges, the more the giant Rock N’ Roll trivia tumor in my brain takes over, so here’s the very first single AC/DC ever released, a song that sold for $1,225 dollars on eBay in in 2012, and then, a couple of years later, sold for a gut wrenching $4,471 for its original New Zealand-only pressing.

This is AC/DC “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl.”

—————————————-
AC/DC – Can I Sit Next to You, Girl
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
—————————————-

A double-shot of AC/DC there. So few people have heard the Bon Scott-era “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl,” which was the very first AC/DC single ever released, that I wanted to also hit you with a Brian Johnson-era hit everybody knows. I’m going to tell you the title only ’cause the FCC says I gotta: that was “Highway to Hell.”

How about we blow off the cobwebs and dust of those tracks with something brand new? From Pickering, Ontario, Canada, where my maternal grandmother was born and worked a farm before immigrating to the U.S., this is Christopher Scott Greenwood, better known by the stage name Manafest, joined on this song by typically Funk Metal artist Red-light King from Hamilton, Ontario. This is the song “Save You” by Manafest featuring Redlight King, on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

If you’re older than 17 years-old and don’t exclusively listen to the no-human-value streaming services, then you’re probably used to disc jockeys telling you, “we have to break for station identification, but don’t go anywhere.” I get that. But on this show? You REALLY don’t want to change that dial, because coming up is the Cover Song of the Week mystery, new music by Budderside, the End Machine, Mammoth WVH, and a woman who will make you absolutely believe you’re tuned into Rock FM in 1985.

Welcome back. This is Great White narrating my life with “All Over Now” from 1987’s Once Bitten LP.

—————————————-
Great White – All Over Now
Mason Hill – Where I Belong
—————————————-

Scottish band Mason Hill… Man, listen to that guitar work! That was the single “Where I Belong.”

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The Cover Song of the Week original is from 1968 and starts with a quintuple metre both Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker claimed to have contributed to the song. Also playing on this Top 10 Hard Rock masterpiece are Felix Pappalardi on violas and Eric Clapton, on guitar, of course, including a section where Clapton employed a wah-wah to make his guitar talk.

For my fellow broadcasters listening–and for hardcore fans who probably already know exactly what song I’m talking about–the original single version of the song was nearly 2 minutes shorter, sticking to the 3 minute guideline of AM radio by cutting out the entire third verse. When the more AOR-friendly FM radio came along and shook up broadcasting, DJs started playing the full, 4-minute, 58-second album version.

More, and easier, clues later.

Right now, I’m going to ask you a personal favor. I know you don’t owe me anything, but here me out before you decide to blow me off.

If you’re driving, do me a favor and pull off the road and put the car in park. I don’t want you or anyone else hurt.

If you’re walking or jogging with AirPods in your ears, please, push them deeper into your ears. With the wait times at the Apple Store, AirPods are a bitch to replace.

If you’re sitting in a chair at home, get the fuck up, because you’re going to want to bang your head deep and fast, if you don’t just spontaneously start moshing and bloodying the kids and the babysitter!

It’s time to “Spit Out the Bone” with Metallica!

—————————————-
Metallica – Spit Out the Bone
—————————————-

I’m going to be honest: Normally, I’d play you two songs back-to-back right there, but who the hell am I going to play that could match the intensity of that Metallica song?!

Stick around. There’s so much more coming up.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

This show is the soundtrack to your “Crazy, Crazy Nights.”

—————————————-
Kiss – Crazy, Crazy Nights
Chez Kane – Better Than Love
—————————————-

That was the latest from Chez Kane, “Better Than Love,” something this broken-hearted host is starting to think is all there is. That song is pure 80s Rock, as is the woman you heard singing it. I recently spent about some time talking to Chez, and that interview will be available on the Hard, Heavy & Hair YouTube channel very soon. Just subscribe to YouTube.com-slash-PariahRocks to make sure you don’t miss that interview, or my interviews with George Lynch of Dokken and the End Machine, Reb Beach of Winger and Whitesnake, and more musical heroes of yours and mine.

Here’s something else new. This is Jordan Red, “Freak Show.”

Tense Machine – Holding On
—————————————-

“Holding On” from Tense Machine.

More Cover Song of the Week clues–and the Cover Song of the Week itself–as well as new The End Machine, Mammoth WVH, and more coming up in the second hour of the show.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. It’s time for a “Hooligan’s Holiday” with 1994 Motley Crue fronted by John Corabi followed by the newest from Budderside.

—————————————-
Motley Crue – Hooligan’s Holiday
Budderside – Amber Alert
—————————————-

That was “Amber Alert” from Budderside and featuring the unmistakable voice of Carla Harvey of the Butcher Babies.

Let’s talk about the band doing the Cover Song of the Week in a brand new release.

They’re a symphonic Metal band that started out as a Metallica tribute band, doing classical-style renditions of Metallica tracks without electric guitars or bass. They even performed with Metallica on December 5th, 2011 for Metallica’s 30th Anniversary celebration. They’ve long since expanded their repertoire to include original music as well as Classical Metal versions of many other artists’ songs. And other artists frequently work with this Finnish symphonic Metal band from Helsinki.

On the Cover Song of the Week they team up with this next vocalist, guesting here with the HU on “Wolf Totem.”

Whitesnake – Here I Go Again (2020 Remix)
—————————————-

Whitesnake and “Here I Go Again,” as if you need me to tell you that, chasing a song that gets everyone’s blood up, “Wolf Totem” by the HU.

Brand new Mammoth WVH, Apocalyptica, and more is just around the musical corner!

When Greg Giuffria left Angel to found his own band, this was his first big hit. From 1984, this is “Call to the Heart” from the band Giuffria.

—————————————-
Giuffria – Call to the Heart
Guns N’ Roses – Paradise City
—————————————-

Take me down… Huh. That was Guns N’ Roses, “Paradise City,” a song that hopefully takes you back to days of optimism and possibility as it does me. Coming up is the Cover Song of the Week, Van Halen, Pretty Boy Floyd, brand new the End Machine, and more!

From the upcoming album Phase2, this is the second single from the second album by The End Machine, “Crack the Sky.”

Ready for your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue?

You waited in the queue until the clues came back,
lied where the shadows run from themselves
Yellow tigers crouch in jungles in her dark eyes
She’s just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings

Pull back the black curtains on black roof country, the Cover Song of the Week is next.

[COW]

Most Classic Rock fans know what band Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker comprised, but I might have thrown you when I noted a fourth musician who played on the Cover Song of the Week original. Cream was a three-piece, so it couldn’t be Cream, right? Actually, Felix Pappalardi was the band’s manager, not an official member of the band, though he did play viola on the Cover Song of the Week original, a song you must know by now is “White Room.”

Doing the honors in a brand new Cover Song of the Week this week is a former Metallica tribute group, now a Symphonic Metal powerhouse with 9 albums under their belt and another in the works. Most people know them as Apocalyptica. Here they are, joined by Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, on a blistering cover of Cream’s “White Room,” followed immediately by the original, multi-layered masterpiece from 1968.

Cream – White Room
—————————————-

I, too, wait in place where the sun never shines. It’s the white room of my mind, the black curtains cutting me off from humanity.

But enough about me. That was “White Room,” the 1968 album-length original by Cream following the brand new cover by Apocalyptica featuring Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, which is this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Back to back songs about depression have to have you pretty mellow by now, if not pointing your car at the cliff. Ease back onto the road, put your back against the record machine, and let’s cheer ourselves way up with Van Halen, “Jump!”

Van Halen – Jump
