“Naughty Naughty,” which is Side A, Track 1 from Danger Danger’s self-titled 1989 debut LP. That song set the tone for the first two Danger Danger albums. _Dawn_, the third album the band released, saw Paul Laine replacing Ted Poley on lead vocals. Andy Timmons and Kasey Smith had also left the band by that point. Timmons DID play on the ACTUAL third Danger Danger album, Cockroach, that was recorded in 1993 and would have been released if its release hadn’t been blocked as part of a nasty, nasty legal battle between Ted Poley and the rest of the band.
Of course, that was back when the Danger Danger guys were all in their mid-20s, the same age as this Glasgow band is now. With their latest single, “DNA,” this is Mason Hill on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Friends don’t tell friends that Queensryche’s Empire came out 30 years ago. Man, I wish I could forget some of those dates. In my mind, the 90s were only a few years ago, not… ugh… more than 20 years ago. Of course, that song is pretty dated with the answering machine clips and the idea of “waiting by the phone”. Do you remember when we actually waited for the phone to ring? No texting, no phone in your pocket?
I got my first cell phone in ’93 or ’94, I think, but back then it was eight gazillion dollars a minute for inbound and outbound calls, and it was a giant brick clipped to your belt. I had the Motorola folding phone, but the battery alone was HUGE and weighed more than my current iPad.

I am holding right here in my hands the brand new Dead Daisies album, _Holy Ground_. This purple foil-embossed CD is the first Daisies album with Glenn Hughes.
When the band first announced Glenn Hughes was replacing John Corabi on lead vocals and Marco Mendoza on bass, a lineup many people, including me, really, really liked, there were people saying that Glenn Hughes joining any band is a signal that the band’s dying. I guess they were right, because this isn’t the same Dead Daisies. This album… It’s like the Dead Daisies are a phoenix rising. Hughes reinvigorated them and helped the Dead Daisies become a different band. Their new sound isn’t better or worse than the previous iterations of the group; it’s different. It’s like trying to compare Motley Crue with Vince to Motley Crue with Corabi. This is the Dead Daisies with Glenn Hughes, and this lineup has its own sound, a different way of blending contemporary Hard Rock with classic elements, and should be in your library right alongside albums by the previous lineups.
I’ve been listening to _Holy Ground_ for a week straight, and every single track kicks ass. How often can you say that about a full album these days? How often can you say there are no throwaway songs on the record?
I told my social media followers that I’d play my favorite deep cut off the album on this week’s show. It was a damned difficult task to pick just one! They’re all so good. This album is awesome all the way through, and I STRONGLY suggest you pick up a copy on Friday, January 22nd, when it’s available for purchase.
Still, I had to pick only one song from _Holy Ground_ not previously as a single. This is David Lowy, Doug Aldrich, Dean Castronovo, and Glenn Hughes, the newest Dead Daisies, and for the first time on the air anywhere on planet earth, this is a song you won’t be able to hear for another two weeks until the _Holy Ground_ album releases. The band doing the Cover Song of the Week is a five-piece Hard Rock band from Sheffield, England. In 2010 they won against more than 500 other unsigned UK bands to play the iTunes festival with Ozzy Osbourne. They did well for themselves from then on, until, in 2017, the band broke up after an eight-day farewell tour of the UK titled “F*ck Off.” But then in September of 2020, they announced they were back together and recording new material. The Cover Song of the Week is the first of that new material.

[ID (partial) Tommy Vext]Uh, no, not anymore. The Bad Wolves just released a statement that the band has parted ways with lead singer Tommy Vext. The split comes after a live Instagram video, since deleted by Bad Wolves, in which Tommy allegedly attributed his departure to a conflict with the rest of the band the label, Better Noise Music, over Tommy’s political beliefs.
There’s no word on a replacement singer for Bad Wolves, but Tommy Vext has already hinted at an intent to embark on a solo career.

New Chevelle there. That was “Self Destructor.”
On January 9th, we laid to rest my step-father, Larry. It would have been his 71st birthday.
One of my earliest memories or Larry is being in the car, and he’s singing along–badly–to every track–on an 8-track tape, mind you–he’s singing along to every track of Alice Cooper’s Greatest Hits. That man had such a terrible singing voice! I mean, it was worse than mine! And that’s saying something. But he was never self-conscious about singing along and enjoying his music. And the sound of him singing along to “Billion Dollar Babies”…
I hope you’ll indulge me as I dedicate this next song to my step-father, Larry Cardarelli. This is Alice Cooper, “Billion Dollar Babies.” For your benefit, I’m going to shut off my mic. But in the background, I’ll be singing along, in my best Larry impression, to this song.

Long-time listeners know I’m not afraid to play experimental Hard Rock and Metal, like the Mongolian throat-singing Metal of the Hu or the After Hours and their brand of Hard Swing.
This week, I discovered the band Silo–S-I-L-O–who describe their sound as Hardcore Country music, and which I’d also describe as Country Metal. The band send me two of their tracks, and this is the one I thought would make a better introduction to the band. Tell me what you think. Maybe I’ll play that other track or more of Silo in the future.

The Cover Song of the Week original was written by the older sibling of Australia’s most famous Hard Rocking brothers. Nine years before Angus and Malcolm would form AC/DC, George Young founded a beat pop band who eventually came out with the Cover Song of the Week original, a hit in 1968.
What was George Young’s 60s band? What song was that?

It’s time for your final Cover Song of the Week clue.
The Cover Song of the Week is new, but it has been covered before. It’s the most famous cover version, arguably more famous than the original. The song was covered by INXS and singer Jimmy Barnes… [clip] …for this 1987 pop culture phenomenon movie. [clip]
What song is that? If you know, then you’re going to hear the newest version, a new Hard Rock cover, in the Cover Song of the Week, next.
[COW]Did you guess the Cover Song of the Week, the original artist, or the covering artist? Let’s see if you’re right.
INXS and Jimmy Barnes covered the song in the mid-80s, and it was used in the original Lost Boys film. That’s probably the most famous version, especially among those who grew up in the 80s. But the song was written in 1968 by George Young, older brother of AC/DC’s Angus and Malcolm Young, with help from George’s long-time collaborator Harry Vanda. George and Harry had a Beat Pop band in the 60s named The Easybeats. You might know them from their bigger hits “She’s So Fine” and “Friday On My Mind,” which Bowie would later cover. The song in question is “Good Times”–which is the title, but it’s also good times to listen to.
The new cover of “Good Times” is the comeback single from UK Hard Rockers Black Spiders.
