[INTRO]

Now matter how old 2020 has made you feel, you’ll always be the “Youth Gone Wild” as long as you can appreciate Skid Row!

—————————————-
Skid Row – Youth Gone Wild
—————————————-

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

On this week’s show I’ve got for you new music and old favorites, a bit of trivia neither you nor your friends probably know about one of the most famous Hard Rock albums of the late-80s, a 70s Hard Rock classic redone by the same band for 2020, a new Hard Rock Cover Song of the Week of a 90s mega-hit, and so much more. You’re going to love this show!

Grab the chicken bones and magic potions, it’s time for a Voodoo Circle and their newest, “Locked & Loaded.”

—————————————-
Voodoo Circle – Locked & Loaded
Southern Governor – Memphis Train
—————————————-

From the backwoods of Gainesboro, Virginia, that was the band Southern Governor and “Memphis Train”, the first single from their upcoming second album. The band hasn’t yet revealed the title or release date for that follow-up to 2013’s It’s My Time.

Slipping down to number 10 this week on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart, this is Bad Wolves and “Learn to Walk Again.”

[ID – Tommy Vext – lead singer Bad Wolves – Christmas Liner]

How well do you know Def Leppard’s Hysteria album? Most of us can sing every lyric on every track of the whole album, or at least the 7 singles Def Leppard released from Hysteria. Those would be, in release order: Animal, Women, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, Armaggedon It, Love Bites, and Rocket. Think about those songs. Now which one of those songs includes the lyric “we’re fighting with the gods of war”? Now, you’re gonna be tempted to say the song TITLED “Gods of War,” but that’s not one of those 7 singles I listed. One of those 7 songs–Animal, Women, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, Armaggedon It, Love Bites, or Rocket–repeats the line “we’re fighting with the gods of war” throughout the song. Which one is it?

See if you’re right soon. Don’t go anywhere.

You’re listening to Hard, Heavy & Hair, and this is Kiss, “Heaven’s on Fire.”

—————————————-
KISS – Heaven’s On Fire
Burnt Out Wreck – Dead or Alive
—————————————-

That was Burnt Out Wreck featuring ex-Heavy Pettin’ drummer and founder Gary Moat. The song is “Dead or Alive” off the band’s 2019 sophomore album This is Hell. If you couldn’t tell by Gary’s voice–

[ID part two]

–Burnt Out Wreck is from Glasgow, Scotland.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The duo doing the new Cover Song of the Week have been playing together sine 1983 in various bands, the most famous of which was a band named for is frontman. The pair I’m talking about played guitar and bass behind that frontman, and famously feuded with him, even going so far as to–infamously–spit on the frontman while playing live. What prolific guitarist was known as much for his spiteful feud with the namesake frontman of his band as for being the band’s chief songwriter and lead guitarist?

If you know, then you know half of the pair doing the Cover Song of the Week. The other half is his long-time collaborator on bass and vocals.

More and easier clues later.

This is something new from Jack Slamer, which is a band, not a person. Here’s “Ocean.”

—————————————-
Jack Slamer – Ocean
Guns N’ Roses – Nightrain
—————————————-

I’ve never been a fan of Night Train the wine, but I’ve always loved that song. Speaking of booze… I need a refill of my Gentleman Jack, so it’s a good time for a station identification. Don’t go away.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

Brand new MSG follows a little “DRFSR” from Warrant.

—————————————-
Warrant – D.R.F.S.R.
Michael Schenker Group – After the Rain
—————————————-

New Michael Schenker Group “After the Rain” there.

A little while ago I asked you how well you knew Def Leppard and the Hysteria album specifically.

So which of the 7 Hysteria singles–Animal, Women, Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, Armaggedon It, Love Bites, or Rocket–includes the lyric “we’re fighting with the gods of war,” which is the title of a completely different track, a deep track, on Hysteria? Do you know? Is it “Animal”? Nope. What about “Armaggedon It”? Surely that’s it, right? If that was your guess, then I’m afraid you’re wrong.

Also, to be honest, it’s a bit of a trick question. Let me play you a quick clip from the song I’m talking about.

[Clip – the break]

Did you hear “We’re fighting with the gods of war”? It was right there. I’ll play it again.

[Clip – the break]

Did you hear it that time? No, well that’s probably because the line is played backward. See if you recognize it if I reverse that same clip you just heard.

[Clip – the break reversed]

Heard it that time?

At the very beginning of “Rocket” and throughout the break, when most people think Def Leppard is singing something along the lines of “power of this night can live without thee,” they’re actually singing the line “we’re fighting with the gods of war,” in reverse. That is, of course, a reference to track number 7 from Hysteria, the song “Gods of War.”

Now you know something I can all but guarantee will win you a bar bet. Try it. Even some of the most diehard Def Leppard fans don’t know about that.

Here’s the full song, “Rocket,” including the reversed lyrics and the break, on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Def Leppard – Rocket
—————————————-

“Rocket,” the full-length album version from Hysteria. In the intro and during the break you can hear Def Leppard back masking the line “we’re fighting with the gods of war.”

Still coming up is the Cover Song of the Week, new Wig Wam, Sweet, and Bloody Hammers, and rare hair from Kane Roberts, Baton Rouge, Dokken, and more!

If you gotta take a leak, do it fast!

Cast your mind back to 1991, to an always shirt-less, body-building guitarist wailing on a machine gun guitar and looking like Rambo about to invade the wild jungles of the Mega Dome. If you can picture him, you can probably hear him in your mind’s ear, too. This is rare hair from Kane Roberts, “Does Anybody Really Fall in Love Anymore.”

Wig Wam – Kilimanjaro
—————————————-

“Kilimanjaro,” the newest from Wig Wam.

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week original garnered a combined seven Grammy nominations between 1995 and the early Two Thousands. Although she didn’t write the Cover Song of the Week original, it is this Rock, Folk, Blues, and Country singer’s most famous song. The song struck a chord with 90s audiences across genres asking a philosophical question that many have described as helping them put their lives and the world in perspective, and of giving them hope when they thought all was lost, just imaging who that might be, a stranger on the bus, a slob like one of us.

That’s your clue. Think about it.

This is Mammoth teaming up with Wolfgang Van Halen with a tribute to his dad, Eddie Van Halen. This is “Distance.”

—————————————-
Mammoth – Distance (Featuring Wolfgang Van Halen)
Baton Rouge – Doctor
—————————————-

From 1990’s Shake Your Soul, Baton Rouge’s first album, that was the song that opened the LP, track 1, “Doctor.”

You’re going to hear a brand new Architects songs in just a few minutes.

From the Winery Dogs and Poison, this is Richie Kotzen with “You Can’t Save Me.”

—————————————-

Reid Henry – The Blind

Reid Henry, formerly of My Darkest Days, going solo on “The Blind.”

This is the newest from VRSTY, it’s “Massive” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
VRSTY – Massive
—————————————-

New Sweet and Bloody Hammers on the way.

You’re still thinking about the Cover Song of the Week clues, aren’t you? Good, ’cause this next song is a little hint.

—————————————-
Dokken – Unchain the Night
Bloody Hammers – Hands Of The Ripper
—————————————-

“Hands of the Ripper” is the newest from North Carolina duo Bloody Hammers following classic Dokken, “Unchain the Night.”

Remember the Sweet, 70s Glam Rock pioneers that gave us songs such as “Ballroom Blitz” and “Love is Like Oxygen”? They’ve been through a few lineup changes over the years, and have continued touring. Now they’re back with a new album called Isolation Boulevard, which is a nod to the 1974 Desolation Boulevard that saw the band getting deeper into Hard Rock and Metal.

The new album features updated takes on many of the Sweet’s biggest hits with Paul Manzi on lead vocals, Bruce Bisland on drums, and Lee Small on bass joining the only original member, guitarist Andy Scott.

This is the 2020 version of “Fox on the Run” from the newest lineup of the Sweet debuting on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?

For your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue I COULD tell you the covering artist is Mr. Scary himself, but that’s not as easy a clue as I’d like. So, instead, I’ll play you a clip from a different song. This song, by famed satire artist Bob Rivers, is a parody of the Cover Song of the Week. See if you can equate this parody clip with the original:

[Clip – Bob Rivers]

That was a clip from the song “What if God Smoked Cannabis” by Bob Rivers. Do you think you know the Cover Song of the Week original now? We’ll see if you’re right next.

[COW]

So what 90s Pop song netted 7 Grammy nominations and made an entire generation feel less alone? That would be the song “One of Us,” often mistitled as “God Was One of Us” because of the chorus. It was the biggest hit of Canadian singer Joan Osborne’s career.

This week it’s getting a new Hard Rock cover by a duo that have worked together in numerous musical projects since 1983 when they backed–and spit on the back of–Don Dokken. Yeah, really.

This is George Lynch and Jeff Pilson from their new covers album Heavy Hitters. The Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week, this is “One of Us” by Lynch & Pilson followed immediately by the 90s Pop Rock classic for comparison.

Joan Osborne – One Of Us
—————————————-

That was “One of Us,” the original by Joan Osborne, following the new Hard Rock version by George Lynch and Jeff Pilson, which is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Something else new is this next song from the Architects. This is “Black Lungs.”
