My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me for a killer show. Trust me on this. Coming up in the Cover Song of the Week is a brand new version by an 80s Metal band covering TWO of the greatest Rock N’ Roll singers ever to have walked this earth and graced you and me with their singing.

A brand new harder remix of a Whitesnake, and, believe it or not, a Metal version of WAP.

[chuckle] Some of you know what that means, some of you don’t. A few of you are asking yourselves if you heard me correctly. Yeah, I said a Metal cover of WAP. It’s hilarious, and you do NOT want to miss it!

That’s coming up, but first, let’s check in with something else new from one of the lights of Norway reignited after years in the dark. This is “Knuckle Duster,” the first new music from the band Torch since 2011. Turn it up!

If you don’t know what that song is about, a knuckleduster is like brass knuckles; they increase the damage of a punch. I happen to have some direct experience with those. Years and years ago, someone caved in my face with a knuckle duster. No joke. It was a sucker punch from the side. I never even saw it coming. When I work up on the floor three minutes later–looking up into a genuinely angelic face of a young Korean woman who actually glowed in my concussed mind–my cheekbone was shattered, my nose broken, and my eye socket cracked open. I also couldn’t remember my name or where I was for half an hour. The force of the sucker punch spun me into a cinderblock wall and then down face-first onto a concrete sink.

The surgeon who put my skull back together was brilliant; you can’t tell by looking at me that my face ever suffered such catastrophic damage.

Nasty weapons, knuckledusters, often used–as they were in that case–by cowards afraid of a straight fight.

That was a long time ago. In fact, it was the same week this next song peaked at number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is LA Guns and “The Ballad of Jayne.”

The artist performing the Cover Song of the Week in a brand new release is one you’d otherwise only hear very, very rarely, if ever, on Hard, Heavy & Hair. This band is considered one of the leaders of the second wave of Thrash Metal movement from the 1980s, and is one of the “Big 8 Thrash Bands” along with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, and, well, two others. One of those final three is the band doing a very NOT Thrash Metal Cover Song of the Week.

Think about that.

Here’s something brand new by a band I just discovered. With a very 80s Glam sound, this is Lazarus and “Bedroom Eyes” kicking off a three-way that includes Kingdom Come and the Scorpions.

You know those “Your Memories” on Facebook? This past week, Facebook showed me my memories of this same week a year ago, and two years ago. You know what they were? They were photos I posted backstage hanging with the guys from Rough Cutt and LA Guns, a photo someone snapped of me with Captain Robert of Abney Park before they took the stage at Dante’s in Portland, and live show flyers I re-shared for friends in XYZ, Black N’ Blue, Last Nights Villain, and Sebastian Bach who were all playing live somewhere on earth this week last year.

Then 2020 hit.

I had press passes or actual paid for tickets to Sebastian Bach, Korn, ZZ Top, Motley Crue’s comeback tour with Poison and Def Leppard, Ministry, and… six… eight… ten… THIRTEEN other live shows since COVID shut down live music, touring, and concert venues in March 2020. Some of my favorite venues have closed forever. And, yeah, you can say that Motley Crue and ZZ Top have enough money that they can survive the shutdown, but it’s not just the bands we’re talking about. There’s the bands’ road crews, their tour bus drivers, venue owners like my friend David Jones who owns the Bossanova Ballroom, which has been shuttered since March. There’s the bartenders, sound people, lighting people, and ticket takers that all work at these closed venues…

As you just heard, another friend of mine, Dave Hope, the drummer and leader of Apocalyptic Lovers, is doing something to help out the people in the live music industry. And to help HIM help THEM, I’m asking you to watch a music video.

Fans reached out to The Apocalyptic Lovers and suggested that the band create a video for the song you just heard, “Better Days,” because it fits with what’s going on in the world right now. So, inspired by Van Halen’s “Right Now” video, David and his wife Amber, created a music video from footage of their 2019 performance at the Whisky-A-Go-Go and are donating all proceeds of the video to the Music Cares charity to help live music workers and venues impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown. I’ve actually been talking to Dave about this for months, and I know he’s checked into EVERY such charity. Music Cares, which is run by the Grammys organization, is the one Dave found that sends the most money honestly to the people how need it.

I am asking you, my dear listener, my fellow music fan, to do a simple favor for all those people I’m talking about. Will you please watch a music video? That’s all; just watch a music video. It’s 5 minutes and 16 seconds of your life, but doing that will help keep music industry workers and their families eating this month, will help them keep a roof over their heads for Thanksgiving, and give their kids a Christmas.

I’ve told you before about the three albums Whitesnake is putting out–the Red, White, and Blues Trilogy. The first album, the white album, is called The Rock Album. It contains 15 tracks of Whitesnake classics, quote, “revisited, remixed, and remastered.” The album also has one new song, “Always the Same,” which David Coverdale and crew recorded for the 2019 Flesh & Blood LP but left off.

This next song is the latest single from The Rock Album. Originally appearing on 1989’s Slide It In followup to Whitesnake’s mega-hit self-titled 1987 album, the power ballad “Now You’re Gone” that you’re about to hear has been remixed and remastered by Christopher Collier. It still features the all-star lineup of David Coverdale on vocals, obviously, but also Steve Vai on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass, and Tommy Aldridge on drums.

Right after it is another new song, but I’ll you about that after they both air. This is the new 2020 remix of Whitesnake’s “Now You’re Gone” from The Rock album.

Deep and politically incorrect cut “Chicks Equal Trouble” from Motley Crue’s as-yet final album of original music, Saints of Los Angeles, following brand new Poetic Descent with Paul Carnahan of Time & Eternity. The song title was “Shallow Graves.”

If I say the acronym WAP, do you know what I mean? If you’re an IT geek, your first thought is probably “Wireless Access Point”. If you’re deeply Christian, you might say WAP means “wait and pray.” And, if you’re a finance person, WAP for you probably means “weighted average price.”

But, for most people under the age of 40–which isn’t me, you’re not alone–for most people under the age of 40, WAP, W-A-P, means “wet ass pussy.” Hahaha I have a hard time even saying that into the microphone! And I’m not the only one, because DJs all over the world, most with stricter censors than I have, have had to struggle with that since August when HipHop artist Cardi B made her comeback with HipHop track “WAP.” In the original version, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion (yeah, I don’t who she is either), but those two go back and forth talking about their “wet ass pussies” and how they use them to gold-dig guys to pay all their bills.

If you haven’t heard of WAP, then, well, you’re remarkably out of touch and very, very lucky. The song, the TikTok challenges it inspires, and the phrase “wet ass pussy” now being part of the English lexicon… Well, it’s a massive, massive thing.

I tell you this because I’m about to play for you a Metal version of “WAP.” Leo Moracchioli is a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist who has an amazing talent for translating almost any song into a Metal cover. He’s got more than 400 such covers to date. “WAP” is his latest, and it is freaking hilarious!

Send the kids out of the room–seriously, this is NOT a kids song, though they have certainly already heard the original by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion–and get ready to laugh your ass off at this awesome cover of “WAP” by Leo.

Steel Panther and “Community Property.” I couldn’t think of what I could possibly follow Leo’s cover of “WAP” with, and even as filthy as Steel Panther can be, that pails in comparison to “WAP.” And, “WAP,” the original, ostensibly NOT a joke song, has been in heavy rotation on HipHop and Pop stations since August! THAT’S what your kids are listening to.

Personally, it makes me feel better about some of the terrible shit I do on the air with female fans and strippers who visit me in the studio. I mean: I have never been as overt as to say “Put this pussy right in your face / Swipe your nose like a credit card”. I mean, Jesus! Remember when it was innuendo instead of overt? Back in 1990 I thought this next song was pretty graphic. This is “Spread Eagle” from Spread Eagle.

Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?

The original song was the subject of controversy in 1990, kicking off an industry-wide debate about sampling, when rapper Vanilla Ice sampled the Cover Song of the Week original’s distinctive bassline for his hit single “Ice Ice Baby.” The sampling wasn’t authorized, and he didn’t pay royalties to the Rock icons who wrote it. He didn’t even credit them for writing the bassline that featured so prominently into “Ice Ice Baby.” A copyright infringement suit was threatened, of course, resulting in an out-of-court settlement wherein the M&M pre-cursor had to give songwriting credit to the afore-alluded-to Rock icons for the sample as well as pay them royalties going forward. There was probably also some lump sum recompensation at the time.

Do you remember that controversy? What song was at the heart of it? Who did Vanilla Ice have to pay and credit for the first HipHop song to ever reach Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart?

Doing the cover version of “Under Pressure” is one of the Big 8 thrash Bands, but the cover is NOT Thrash. It really showcases Mark Osegueda’s vocals.
