Hard, Heavy & Hair is heard round the world on 5 continents and in almost every country on Earth. So I try to keep it feeling international and decentralized. This week, though, I hope my listeners will afford me a little grace as I focus on the home of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, the United States of America. We have a tiny, little election coming up in just a couple of weeks, and I want to take this opportunity to encourage my fellow Americans of all political leanings and beliefs, to register to vote, and follow that up BY voting. it’s kind of a big deal.

This week, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show is rocking the vote with a bi-partisan lineup of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today that EVERYONE can agree on. Conservative, Liberal, Independent, or apathetic, you’re going to rock out to the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

“Somebody Save Me” by Cinderella. Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The artist performing the Cover Song of the Week in a brand new release is a band originally formed in 1987 on a bet. The band, lead by founder Kory Clarke, would go on to release a string of albums in the 90s on Geffen, even while Grunge was killing Hard Rock and Glam. This band’s debut album was even compared to Nirvana’s Nevermind, which explored similar themes on the minds of Generation Xers at the time. Ultimately, the Punk-influenced Hard Rock aesthetic with Metal riffs lost out to Nirvana’s nihilistic Grunge.

Who was that band? They’re the ones doing the Cover Song of the Week in a brand new release.

A deep, deep cut there from Extreme’s second album, Pornograffitti, which turned 30 years old this past August.

I rarely ask you for anything–except the occasional Facebook page like–and I never tell what you have to do–except when I tell you to bang your head, throw your horns, or pump your fist to the sky. So I hope you will forgive me for this rare, impassioned plea.

Register to vote, then follow through and vote. PLEASE.

You’ve gotta vote. I know it feels like you might not have a say in how your country runs. Believe me, I feel that way, too. But we really, really do. Look at it this way: If your guy loses, that IS your fault. It’s the fault of everyone that wanted him in but didn’t vote. Every drop of water contributes to the size of the ocean, and every missing drop, lowers the water level. And if your guy DOES win, well then, he’s NOT your guy if you didn’t vote for him. That’s like taking credit for someone else’s good luck or hard work. If your candidate wins, he’s NOT your President. He’s the President that got elected DESPITE you, and because of you not voting, he might have lost.

Please. Register to vote, and then actually vote. America is about individual voices, no matter how hard the politicians try to convince us otherwise. We need to raise our individual voices by casting ballots. If your guy still loses, then you at least know you did your part in trying to get him in. If your guy wins? Well, then, you have bragging rights. You can say: I helped get him there. But if you don’t vote, all you can do is say, “I sat back and watched other people try to make a better America.”

I don’t know if you have the balls to say it, but I do: I make America because I’m “American Made,” fight till the end, it’s how I’m made, just like Dee Snider.

Let’s talk about the Cover Song of the Week original. It hit the Top 10 on the charts in the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria, but peaked at only number 26 on the U.S. charts. That was back during election week in 1972, 48 years and 9 Presidents ago. It was the first single from the Billion Dollar Babies album Vincent Furnier and his band would release a few months later.

For you fans of Metal trivia and comedy, it’s a song that British comedian Rowan Atkinson, known best as his character Mr. Bean, would parody in 1992 with a band comprising Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson and members of the band Skin.

Ready for your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue?

I’ve been looking back at the previous Cover Song of the Week clues, and they could be a tough bill to pass, so let me help you a little more with a musical clue.

The song we’re talking about, the Cover Song of the Week original, is actually a reworking of another song by the same artist. Here’s a clip from the 1969 original, “Reflected.”

What much-better-known 70s Classic Rock song does that sound like? The Cover Song of the Week original contains a lot of the same musical elements you just heard, reworked, made a little harder, with different lyrics–lyrics that made it huge during election week in 1972 when incumbent Richard Nixon ran against George McGovern.

Think about it. If you’ve “Had Enough,” work toward change, like Animal Drive encourages us to do–well, they will, after we get off the “Crazy Train” with Ozzy.

I am holding right here in my grubby little hand–well, clean but calloused and big hand–my ballot for the November 3rd election. It’s mostly filled out–I still have a couple of bills I’m researching before I make up my mind. My state has mail-in voting–yes, yes, I know what you’ve heard. But my state has been doing mail-in voting for YEARS, and has NEVER had an accusation of voting fraud or any misplaced ballots no matter what self-serving politicians might tell you.

I’m not saying anything pro-Trump or anti-Trump or pro-anything or anti-anything. Actually scratch that. I am anti sitting on your ass and letting other people decide the fate of your country, your children, and YOU for you, and I am pro-voting. So get off your ass and vote. Hell, if you’re in one of the 45 states that allow mail-in voting, you CAN stay on your ass and vote for the mail just vote!

Did you guess the Cover Song of the Week? Admittedly, this week’s clues weren’t easy.

What band, fronted by then-named Vincent Furnier, recorded the song “Reflected” in 1969, then reworked that same song, giving it a harder edge and different lyrics, and released it to international success during the 1972 Presidential Election? Well, shortly after that, the band broke up, and Vincent Furnier took the band name for his own personal name. You know Vincent best as Alice Cooper. One of Alice’s greatest hits is “Elected.”

It’s covered this week in a new version put out just for the 2020 Presidential election by a band Kory Clarke started on a bet back in ’87. It’s a band that, at the time, was compared favorable to Nirvana and was hoped would be the Hard Rock and Hair Metal band to bridge the gap to Nirvana’s Gen-X fans and defeat Grunge. We all know that, regrettably, didn’t happen.

Kory and the band went quiet for a while, but made a comeback in recent years, including this brand new single, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. This is Warrior Soul and 2020 track “Elected” followed immediately by the Alice Cooper 1972 original.
