[INTRO]

Ladies and gentlemen! Do you need it? Do you want it? Let me hear it! This is Saliva kicking us off.

—————————————-
Saliva – Ladies and Gentlemen
—————————————-

From Saliva’s 2007 LP the Blood Stained Love Story, that was lead single and opening track “Ladies and Gentlemen.” It kicks off Hard, Heavy & Hair Show number 268, which we’re calling “Stay or Go?”. I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host, Pariah Burke, and I welcome you all inside. You’ll definitely want to stay for the whole two hours because I’ve got for you brand new Jailbirds, Foundry, and From Ashes to New, lagoon with the latest from the Amity Affliction and the Loyal Order, plus old favorite hits and deep cuts from Skid Row, Bullet Boys, Warrant, Halestorm, Van Halen, and more, plus some pretty cool surprises like Rare Hair from the Damn Yankees, Lynch Mob reimagined, and more!

This show’s gonna hit you like a bomb!

—————————————-
Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar on Me
Halestorm – Apocalyptic
The Helvetica Effect – Coded Words
—————————————-

From Fort Walton Beach, Florida, that was up-and-coming Hard Rock band the Helvetica Effect with their song, “Coded Words.” Before the badd ass band with a new female bass player was female frontwoman Lzzy Hale with HER band and the song “Apocalyptic” from 2015’s Into the Wild Life LP. Starting off the three-way was the unmistakable “Pour Some Sugar on Me” from Def Leppard.

We have to take a break so I can wipe the… sugar… out of my beard. We’ll be right back with the BulletBoys singing about what I was just doing.

A couple of minutes ago I learned a new saying. You might think TGIF means Thank God Its Friday, but it really means Tongues Goes In First… which is why I did. The BulletBoys know what I’m talking about.

—————————————-
BulletBoys – Kissin’ Kitty
Notörious – Flying High
—————————————-

By request for Elisabeth W., that was Notorious and “Flying High.” Hit me with your Hard Rock, Metal, or Hair Band request from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, or today at PariahRocks.com , on Twitter and Instagram at-PariahRocks, or on Facebook on the Hard, Heavy & Hair page.

Let’s do brand new Foundry after your first Cover Song of the Week clue.

The original song features Spanish lyrics echoing the English ones. Those Spanish lyrics were sung by a friend of the original recording artist band, Texas singer, songwriter, and guitarist Joe Ely. But he didn’t translate them all on his own. Joe helped, translating the English Rock band’s English lyrics to Mexican Spanish, but then one of the band members spoke Castilian Spanish and added a few touches. As did Puerto Rican engineer Eddie Garcia, and Eddie’s mother, who was Ecuadorian.

The first Cover Song of the Week clue is always the toughest. More and easier clues later.

Straight out of Vegas, this is brand new Foundry single, “Intoxicate.”

Foundry – Intoxicate

From something brand new, let’s slip back a few decades to 1978 and raise the temperature to a hundred and three with Foreigner, and then Warrant will get us even hotter.

—————————————-
Foreigner – Hot Blooded
Warrant – Love in Stereo
—————————————-

“Love in Stereo,” a deep cut off the Cherry Pie album.

Next up is the full-circle end of Lynch Mob.

Are you a Lynch Mob fan? I’m about to play for you a song from the very last Lynch Mob album there will ever be. That’s right. George Lynch has officially, permanently, retired the band. George will keep on playing, as will on-again-off-again singer Oni Logan, but not as the band called Lynch Mob.

In an interview with Audio Ink Radio, George told Anne Erickson that, quote, “It’s inexcusable to keep the name” Lynch Mob.

He continued, explaining, quote: “With everything going on right now in the world, it was really sort of an epiphany moment.” George and company will still play the old music, but they won’t record new music or ever play live again as Lynch Mob. He said: “I’ll probably still play with some of the same people. We’ll just call it something else.”

Few people get to put as a clean an end to a project as Lynch Mob is now doing. This week, they release their final album ever. Thirty years after the debut Lynch Mob album Wicked Sensation, the final LP is a track-for-track re-imaging of that debut. “We’ve created this book end — an answer to the first record,” George said. It’s something very different, very imaginative, and every track is a killer musical reinterpretation of that original album that hooked me and made me a Lynch Mob fan.

I listened to the entire Wicked Sensation Reimagined album a few times already, and I thought there was no better way to present it to you than to give you a before and after, in the reverse order, and no better track than the title track, the first song we all heard popping in that 1990 CD, and the first one you’ll hear with you cue up the 2020 bookend to the career of Lynch Mob.

For your listening pleasure, this is the song “Wicked Sensation,” first the brand new reimagined version, and then the original. Compare and contrast.

—————————————-

What do you think of the new “Wicked Sensation (reimagined)”? How does it compare with the 30 year-old original?

If you want to hear how George and the boys reimagined the other 11 songs from the Lynch Mob debut LP Wicked Sensation on the new, last ever Lynch Mob LP, pick up Wicked Sensation Reimagined, available now wherever good music is sold.

Not quite 30 yet, this is the biggest hit from Guns N’ Roses Use Your Illusion double-album released the year after Lynch Mob’s debut.

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – November Rain
—————————————-

Still coming up is rare Damn Yankees hidden away for 30 years; new Jailbirds, Skid Row, Van Halen, and more! Don’t go anywhere–except to the fridge to grab another beer.

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

My name is Pariah Burke, your host.

Thank you for joining me.

This is brand new From Ashes to New, “Bulletproof.”

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

The original recording artist clashed with its record company over the content of the Cover Song of the Week original and other things. The song was originally written with the very sexual line “on your front or on your back,” but CBS Records thought the line might keep it off the radio. Consequently, they demanded the band’s volatile lead singer re-record a more sanitary line, one I won’t quote because that would make things too easy.

Changing that line rubbed the lead singer wrong–ironically, making the whole thin truly Combat Rock–and it was one of many reasons this truly great Rock N’ Roll group, the so-called Only Band That Matters, disintegrated forever.

Who was that band? What are their famous songs? And which song could possess a lyric that was once “on your front or on your back”?

Think about it. This is Van Halen.

[SW – DLR]

—————————————-
Van Halen – You Really Got Me
The Uneven – Punching Bag
The Loyal Order – Fuck or Fight
—————————————-

My friends the Loyal Order there with a deep cut from their eponymous 2020 debut album. Co-writer and lead guitarist Brandon Cook told me that song, “Fuck or Fight,” is about toxic relationships, when the passion is strong but unhealthy, the kind where if you’re not banging, you’re arguing, in that knock down, drag out, rip each other’s throats out way.

Before the Loyal Order was a similarly-veined song, “Punching Bag” from the Uneven.

If you’re in a toxic relationship, get out. Seriously. If you can, do it before we get back from this next commercial break. Just tell your significant other you’re going out for a pack of smokes or a new life.

“I Want Action” tonight–well, I know I’m getting it–so is Poison. Ozzy and Age of Reflection follow.

“Stay with Me” from Age of Reflection following Ozzy and “Mama, I’m Coming Home”.

New Jailbirds coming up. Also coming up is an astounding musical correlation between Black Sabbath and the Doors. Stick around.

This is Great White, “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.”

It’s interesting the beats and melodies of different songs, how they can connect. Like this one:

[tiktok 2]

That’s “Feel Invincible” by Skillet with the vocals of Three Days Grace’s “Riot.” It fits perfectly, right?

Check this one out.

[tiktok 3]

In the end, only Danny Phantom matters. Danny Phantom is a kid’s cartoon, and the theme song to the cartoon is the same tune, beat, and cadence as Linkin Park’s “In the End.”

This guy, Johnathon Miranda, does all these mashups–dozens of them–and with all kinds of music. Check him out on Tiktok. I’ve linked to his profile in the show notes for Hard, Heavy & Hair 268 on PariahRocks.com.

Here’s one more of his mashups, then we’ll do a Mr. Big song and right after, that long, lost Damn Yankees recording.

[tiktok 1]

The Doors “Break on Through” over the intro to Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid.” Wild, man. Wild.

This is Mr. Big, “Stay Together.”

—————————————-
Mr. Big – Stay Together
—————————————-

The Damn Yankees are among many Melodic Hard Rockers who have re-released their 1980s and 90s albums in the new millennium. And, like so many others of those with Rock Candy Records remasters, the re-release of the Damn Yankees debut album includes a bonus track not included on the original. In this case, it’s a song the Damn Yankees contributed to the soundtrack of the forgettable 1991 film Nothing But Trouble. The song is called “Bonestripper,” rare Damn Yankees all but lost for nearly 30 years. Right here, right now, on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Damn Yankees – Bonestripper
The Jailbirds – Dull My Brain
—————————————-

From Dublin, Ireland, that was Irish slash Australian band the Jailbirds and their newest, “Dull My Brain.”

The Cover Song of the Week is next, but I’ve still got one more clue for you. Don’t go anywhere!

Have you figured out the Cover Song of the Week yet? Maybe this last clue will help. You definitely don’t want to leave before the reveal. ‘Cause if you go, there will be trouble. But if you stay, it will be double. Do you recognize the song now? Should I cool it or should I blow? ?Me debo ir o quedarme?

[COW]

The Cover Song of the Week original, the one with the mixed Spanish lyrics sung by Texan Joe Ely, the song CBS Records felt the need to sanitize to the never-ending frustration of Mick Jones, is, of course, “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” That song can only have been written and originally recorded by the band described in the media as The Only Rock Band That Matters.…

[Clip – DLR, “the Clash, baby”]

Thank you, David Lee Roth.

Giving the Clash classic a 90s Hard Rock makeover is a Swedish band named for a controversial paper mill near Hanoi constructed during the Vietnam War in a joint project by Sweden and North Vietnam. Back in the mid-90s, the band Bai Bang did this week’s Cover Song of the Week, “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” Here it is, followed immediately by the original by the Clash.
