Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest, the one meant to strain the most encyclopedic of Rock N’ Roll brains.

The Cover Song of the Week is by a Finnish-Canadian band formed in 2010. Their tagline is “a band with a story to tell,” and they’ve given us albums with titles like Captivity, Road Stories, and MetroRose.

There are a bunch of Dirty 30s on this week’s show from the likes of Poison, XYZ, Tesla, Tora Tora, and, coming up right after this brand new track from Nashville trio Goodbye June, is a Dangerous Toys hit turning 30.

From their upcoming 2019 Earache Records/Cotton Valley Music LP Community Inn, which drops October 25th, this is the brand new song “Universal Mega Love” from Goodbye June on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

That was “Blood Wants Blood,” one of my favorite tracks from the new Eclipse LP Paradigm. That song isn’t one of the album’s singles, so you’re not going to hear it played anywhere but the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

Something else exclusive to the show is the Cover Song of the Week, a mystery game we play. I’ve got your second clue right now. Ready?

The 1969 Cover Song of the Week original’s lyrics were inspired by the 1941 film The Devil And Daniel Webster in which a farmer makes a deal with the Devil, and a hurricane wipes out most of a town. The song is about a coming apocalypse. It’s a heavily covered song with versions by Bruce Springsteen, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Type-O Negative, Nirvana, Rasputina, and many, many others.

Can you believe that song turned 30 years old this year?

Speaking of Dirty 30s, I’ve got a request here from Jessica Frehley. Jessica is one of the biggest fans of both the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show and of the Glam Metal band Steelheart. This time, Jessica writes, quote “Pariah, you have the sexiest red hair and facial hair that i’ve ever saw in my life!” End quote.

Well, thank you, Jessica! I’m flattered!

She goes on to say, “I have a 30th birthday coming up in two weeks and I would love to hear Steelheart’s ‘Gimme Gimme’ to help me get in the partying mood.”

The Cover Song of the Week is just around the corner, so it’s time for your third and final clue.

The original is one of the most famous examples of misheard song lyrics–a mondegreen–one that even the singer-songwriter has gotten wrong. Many people think the lyric is “there’s a bathroom on the right,” something the singer, John Fogerty, often had fun with by pointing to a nearby bathroom when singing the song on stage.

Any Given Sin, Tora Tora, and the Cover Song of the Week are next.

What song contains the line so many sing as “a bathroom on the right”? It’s a line John Fogerty himself once sang wrong himself–during the Premonition concert. I’m sure you already know that song, the Cover Song of the Week original, is “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. It’s a song about a coming apocalypse. Another artist moved to put their spin on the song is Finnish-Canadian Hard Rock and Classic Rock band Forth–F-O-R-T-H–named for founder and vocalist Brian Forth. And Forth’s version of “Bad Moon Rising” is the Cover Song of the Week, followed immediately by the CCR original.
