Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

Welcome to the show. This week, it’s a touch of fantasy, starting with Aldo Nova from ’82.

—————————————-
Aldo Nova – Fantasy
—————————————-

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

I’ve got a double-shot of Pennsylvania Hard Rock for you starting with brand new track “Forget Me Not” from Another Day Dawns and then moving into an even more famous band from the state of virtue, liberty, independence, and nobody’s fool.

—————————————-
Another Day Dawns – Forget Me Not
Cinderella – Nobody’s Fool
—————————————-

“Nobody’s Fool” from Cinderella’s 1983 debut album Night Songs following a brand new song from fellow Pennsylvanians Another Day Dawns.

Coming up on the show is more new music from Steelheart, Gallows Circus, Dianthus, Blitz, I’ll Be Damned, and more, as well as hits and old favorites from Slash, Motley, Black Sabbath, Kingdom Collapse, and more.

This is Dio with “Holy Diver” continuing the touch of fantasy weaving through this week’s show.

—————————————-
Dio – Holy Diver
—————————————-

Don’t go anywhere! I’ve got brand new Melodic Hard Rock, your first Cover Song of the Week clue, and Bon Jovi for you next!

Blitz! Blitz! Blitz! is “Breaking Out.”

—————————————-
Blitz – Breaking Out
—————————————-

From Nottingham, England, that was Kevin Simpson, Mat Davis, and Stuart Corden, the three-piece band known as Blitz with their brand new single “Breaking out.”

Winger and Bon Jovi are after your first Cover Song of the Week clue. Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The band performing the Cover Song of the Week is a bit of a dark horse. Born and raged in Sacramento, California, this female-fronted Heavy Metal band combines elements from Motionless in White to In This Moment. The band comprises five players, but is primarily a partnership between front woman Brianna Cowgill and guitarist Ryan Frost from Hard Rock band Burn Halo. This band’s live shows often feature bloody masks and suits and comedic crowd interactions. They just released their self-titled debut EP this year, leading with the single that is the Cover Song of the Week.

More and easier clues later.

Here’s “Seventeen” from Winger on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Winger – Seventeen
Bon Jovi – You Give Love a Bad Name
—————————————-

“You Give Love a Bad Name,” Bon Jovi.

This next song hasn’t officially charted yet, but it’s only a matter of time. It’s one of those slow burn tracks that will eventually get there. From the San Antonio quartet that gave us “Payback” last year, this is Alt Metal band Kingdom Collapse with “Uprise.”

—————————————-
Kingdom Collapse – Uprise
—————————————-

“Uprise” from Kingdom Collapse. That song was cowritten by Ted Bruner who wrote such hits as “Fallen Angel” for Three Days Grace and My Darkest Days’ “Porn Star Dancing.”

Brand new Steelheart is next.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly 2-hour dose of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today.

This is brand new Steelheart. The title is “My Freedom.”

—————————————-
Steelheart – My Freedom
Vega – Don’t Fool Yourself
—————————————-

That was “Don’t Fool Yourself” from Frontiers Music’s shining star Vega. Vega features vocals by Nick Workman, formerly of Eden and Kick, as well as brothers James and Tom Martin, who have written music for the likes of Joe Lynn Turner, Ted Poley, and House of Lords.

Black Sabbath is coming up after something else new. Featuring Fozzy’s Chris Jericho and Kiss’s Bruce Kulick, this is Kuarantine’s newest, “Heart of Chrome.”

—————————————-
Kuarantine – Heart of Chrome (feat. Chris Jericho & Bruce Kulick)
Black Sabbath – The Wizard
Gallows Circus – Hell’s Whiskey
—————————————-

Brand new Gallows Circus “Hell’s Whiskey”–something I know a LOT about–following Black Sabbath and “The Wizard.”

Coming up in the next hour is the Cover Song of the Week, Slash, King of Giants, Tesla, Scorpions, and more! You don’t want to miss it, so if you’ve gotta take a leak, do it fast.

I’ve got your next Cover Song of the Week clue right after a couple of songs by Slash and the Crue. First up, “Too Young to Fall In Love.”

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Too Young to Fall in Love
Slash – By the Sword (feat. Andrew Stockdale)
—————————————-

Featuring Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale on vocals, that was Slash’s 2010 single “By the Sword.”

This is your second Cover Song of the Week clue:

The Cover Song of the Week is a Metal cover of a recent Pop hit by… Well, by someone who likes to dress up in elaborate costumes that included colorful wigs, big goofy dresses, full-body food costumes, jungle outfits, and, most famously, Candyland-inspired treats that could easily have made her the poster girl for Willy Wonka’s factory.

Who is that original artist? She’s actually been one of my celebrity crushes for years, though I’ve not had the opportunity to meet her. I tend to run in different circles than Pop singers. That last bit won’t help you solve the Cover Song of the Week mystery, though, so let’s move on to new music by female vocalists I am more likely to bump into–maybe at the NAMM Show if COVID ever goes away.

Named for an entire genus of perennial flowering plants, twin sisters Jackie and Jessica Perry form the roots, stem, and petals of melodic Metal band Dianthus. This is their brand new track, “Realms” to continue the thread of a touch of fantasy on this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

—————————————-
Dianthus – Realms
Kingdom Of Giants – Sync
—————————————-

Back-to-back new Metal releases there. First was twin-sister duo Dianthus and then 6-piece Kingdom of Giants with their newest, “Sync.”

More new, more old, more favorite, more bold, still ahead.

Don’t fall asleep on me! It’s just getting thrilling with Dokken and “Dream Warriors.”

—————————————-
Dokken – Dream Warriors
Manowar – Sleipnir
—————————————-

That was Manowar with “Sleipnir,” a ballad to Odin’s eight-legged horse.

And this is a short little ditty from Lord Tracy I can all but guarantee you’ve never heard on the radio before. From the Deaf Gods of Babylon LP, this is “3 H.C.” Just remember: I didn’t write the damn thing; I’m just spinning it. So, hold your hate mail for Terry Glaze.

—————————————-
Lord Tracy – 3 H.C.
—————————————-

Having a sense of humor is part of Rock N’ Roll. Tesla’s up after this brief message.

I’ve always thought Mechanical Resonance is one of the best Rock albums of the mid-80s, and definitely one of the best debut albums of that decade. Every track from that album is pure gold… well, except for one, but this next song isn’t that one. Here’s a great deep cut from Tesla’s debut album. This is “Cover Queen” written by Frank Hannon and Jeff Keith.

—————————————-
Tesla – Cover Queen
I’ll Be Damned – Through the Walls
—————————————-

Hailing from the second-largest city in Denmark, that’s Mighty Music recording artist I’ll Be Damned. That’s the name of the band, not an exclamation from me. The song title is “Through the Walls.”

I have to tell you, I am so excited for July 17th. You might be hearing this show after the 17th, but as I record the show, that day is a week away. Why am I excited for that date? I’m glad you ask.

That’s the day that my good friends in the Loyal Order finally, after more than 8 years, release their debut LP. It’ll be out on the EMP label and available wherever you buy digital music–including in the show notes on PariahRocks.com for show number 261, which is the number of this show.

The Loyal Order is my good friend Brandon Cook on lead guitar and co-writing with another friend, Jeff Buehner, who is the vocalist for the band but also the bassist for Rough Cutt. Patrick Young from Black N’ Blue on bass–did I mention that Brandon Cook is also a guitarist in Black N’ Blue?–with Justin Gibson on second guitar for the Loyal Order and Kyle Baultus on drums. To Brandon and Jeff, especially, but to all five of the guys in the Loyal Order, I want to offer my sincere, heartfelt congratulations on getting the album finished and released. I’ve heard the tracks as they evolved, and am genuinely happy to see the LP cross the finish line and officially launch this band onto the flight path to greatness.

If you want to hear the Loyal Order album, like I said, hit the show notes on PariahRocks.com. I’ve also linked to my interviews with lead guitarist and co-writer Brandon Cook about the Loyal Order, Black N’ Blue, and all of his other projects.

This is the song that brought the Loyal Order to international attention, played PROUDLY on Hard, Heavy & Hair for the 10th time. This is “Ready for Dead.” Crank it the F up!

—————————————-
The Loyal Order – Ready For Dead
The Sword – Freya
—————————————-

“Freya” from the Sword.

Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?

Let’s talk about the Cover Song of the Week itself.

I told you the original is a recent Pop song from a Pop singer sometimes so sweet she actually dresses in candy and cupcakes. Despite that, the song has some pretty dark lyrics that make it perfect for a Metal cover. Lyrics like:

She’s a beast
I call her Karma
She eat your heart out
Like Jeffrey Dahmer

Pretty dark, right?

The chorus goes like this:

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know whatcha falling for
Baby do you dare to do this
‘Cause I’m coming atcha like a ____[blank]____

The blank is the song title.

The Cover Song of the Week is next.

[COW]

Did you guess the Cover Song of the Week? I actually told you the title in the first clue, but you probably missed it. I’m sneaky like that.

What about the covering artist or the original recording artist?

The Cover Song of the Week is Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” which has some surprisingly dark and creepy lyrics. A lot of people dismiss Katy Perry as just another auto-tuned signing head, but she writes almost all of her own songs–music and lyrics–and they’re actually pretty sophisticated songs. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a fan, and not just because I have a thing for her, which I do. Katy, call me.

Anyway. The dark lyrics–no pun intended–may be what drew Sacramento, California Metal band Beauty is Betrayal to cover “Dark Horse.” Fronted by Brianna Cowgill and featuring band co-lead, Burn Halo guitarist, Ryan Frost, this is Beauty is Betrayal with the Cover Song of the Week, “Dark Horse,” followed immediately by the original version by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J so that true music fans can compare and contrast.

The Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week is California Metal band Beauty is Betrayal doing Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.” You just heard the original Pop version following the cover.
