From Australia, that is a very exciting new band called Wicked Smile. On July 1st Wicked Smile will drop its debut EP Delirium, produced by Danger Danger’s Bruno Ravel and Paul Laine. I’ve heard the entire Delirium EP, and it’s damn good. You won’t regret getting yourself a copy.

Coming up on the show is a ton of new music from the likes of LA Guns, Winger, Ocean Hills, Trivium, and more; as well as old favorites from Motley, Ratt, Van Halen, Britny Fox, and more; Rare Hair from Warrant and Dokken; the number 1 Rock song in the world; and, of course, the Cover Song of the Week.

The artist performing the Cover Song of the Week is the former frontman for the Biters, now running his own band of Restless Hearts. Part of the New Wave of Classic Rock and praised by the likes of Nikki Sixx, you could say this artist is lookin’ for love, ready for war.

Remember that big stadium tour with the comeback of Motley Crue along with Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts we were SUPPOSED TO GET this summer?

Did you hear about the people on Twitter who suddenly discovered that Rage Against the Machine was political? Seriously. A bunch of, well, I’m not going to use the M-word, but a bunch of younger listeners–including some who claimed they were big Rage fans, suddenly discovered over the last couple of weeks that Rage Against the Machine sang political lyrics in the songs the fans heard, quote, “millions of times,” end quote but must not have ever actually listened to!

And, did you see the awesome clip of an entire wedding part–in NIGERIA–dancing to System of a Down’s “Toxicity”?! I’m not joking, and I’m not going to be flippant. In all sincerity, music is universal and it can heal us all. There are no borders for Rock N’ Roll, and that is genuinely, truly, beautiful.

Ready for your second Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week original is a 2012 pop tune described as “Hollywood Sadcore”. The song is cowritten by the red-haired female singer and by veteran songwriter Rick Nowels, who also wrote Belinda Carlisle’s solo hit 1987’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” as well as “I Can’t Wait” for Stevie Nicks. The original song, which is about melancholy during a particular season we’re all in right now, did ok on the radio in its original form, but it wasn’t until the song was remixed by DJ Cedric Gervais that it broke the Billboard Top 10.

And here’s a bonus tip: Long-time listeners of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show have already heard me play the same song covered by a different Metal group. Dutch symphonic Metal band Within Temptation covered the same original on their 2014 Hydra album, and I’ve played their cover.

We started with Race the Rat, but then the Ratt caught up with “Way Cool, Jr.”.

I’ve got a new-ish Whitesnake for you. David Coverdale is the George Lucas of music. He loves to rework his old stuff. Maybe he’s trying to build an even bigger legacy before he retires, which he said he plans to do soon.

He just released a new Whitesnake compilation called the Rocks Album. It’s the first in a trilogy that includes a ballads album–Love Songs–and an album of Whitesnake’s Blues rock tracks called, you guessed it, the Blues Album. It’s a red-white-and-blue theme with the Rocks Album being white, Love Songs red, and the Blues album, naturally, blue.

But these aren’t just a greatest hits. Coverdale has remixed and remastered all the songs for 2020, and even embellished a few tracks where he, quote, “felt it appropriate or necessary to bring out the best [in them]”.

The Rocks Album released this past Friday, and here’s the first song from it, the 2020 Remix of “Here I Go Again.”

From Atlanta and former frontman for the Biters, Tuk Smith has been busy during the stay-at-home order. Although he should have been opening for Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Poison on the big stadium tour, he was stuck at home. He decided to make good use of that time and record and release a 5-song EP of cover songs called Covers From the Quarantine. In addition to covering songs by Bowie, INXS, the Who, and KISS, Tuk took a direct shot at the year-long postponement of the biggest tour of his career by covering “Summertime Sadness.”

Originally by Pop singer Lana Del Rey and dubbed “Hollywood Sadcore,” “Summertime Sadness”, now covered by Tuk Smith, is the Cover Song of the Week. Here it is followed by the original by Lana Del Rey.
