Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

I’m back in the studio…

[CLIP – Die Hard 2 – Same Shit Same Guy Twice]

…Exactly. And you’re about to be Thunderstruck by 1990 AC/DC.

—————————————-
AC/DC – Thunderstruck
—————————————-

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

[CLIP – TMNT 1990 – cowabunga!]

On this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show I’ve got something you’re going to love. In addition to new and recent music by Dirty Shirley, Godsmakc, Dee Snider, Diamante, and more, we’re doing a major tribute to the Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the year 1990!

[CLIP – Hunt for Red October – This Will Get Out of Control, Lucky to Live Through It]

Hey, you long-haired, freaky people, let’s go straight into the spirit of 1990 with Tesla and the Black Crowes.

—————————————-
Tesla – Signs (Live)
Black Crowes, The – Hard to Handle
—————————————-

“Hard to Handle” from the Black Crowes following one of the biggest shakeups of 1990, Tesla making unplugged cool with their cover of the Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs.”

Another cool update also came in 1990, when 70s Hard Rockers Bad Company made a comeback with new singer Brian Howe and rocked the airwaves with “Holy Water.”

—————————————-
Bad Company – Holy Water
—————————————-

Number 1 on Billboard for two weeks in the Summer of 1990, that was “Holy Water” by Bad Company featuring vocalist Brian Howe. Brian recently passed away, but his musical legacy lives on.

Don’t go anywhere! Coming up is your first Cover Song of the Week clue, more 1990 rockers, and some new 2020 tunes, too. We’ll be right back after a word from our sponsor, Maury’s Wigs of Queens, New York.

[CLIP – Goodfellas – Commerical Maury’s Wigs]

You’re back!

[CLIP – Ghost 1990 – You Stubborn Asshole]

I’m Pariah Burke and you’re listening to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, show number 256, and we’re paying tribute to a hard rocking year, 1990.

Before we get back to the music of 1990, let’s play something new. This is the latest from Dee Snider, “Prove Me Wrong.”

—————————————-
Dee Snider – Prove Me Wrong
—————————————-

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: The first clue is always the hardest.

[CLIP – Total Recall – Here Comes the Hard Part]

Several Hard Rock and Metal bands have had their names conflated with their lead singers to the point that the lead singers adopt the bands’ names for their own. This artist, a former journalism student turned singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, is one such person. He had a religious upbringing in Ohio, which lead to Christianity appearing time and again, in one form or another, in his music.

That’s the Cover Song of the Week artist.

Let’s do a triple-play of 1990 rockers ’cause I have to hit the men’s room.

[CLIP – Hunt for Red October – Torpedo in the Water]

—————————————-
Warrant – Cherry Pie
Trixter – One in a Million
FireHouse – Shake & Tumble
—————————————-

Warrant, Trixter, and Firehouse. Man! Do you remember the Blood, Sweat, Beers Tour with those three bands? Summer 1990. What an amazing show. One second Jani Lane is singing on stage, then suddenly he’s standing five feet away from me atop a column in the center of the audience without missing a beat. Great f’n show.

More new music, more 1990 music, right after this!

[CLIP – TMNT 1990 – oh so that’s the plan from our great leader huh just sit here on our butts] [CLIP – Nightbreed – No One Here of That Name, I Know You, He’s Talked About You]

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

This is Extreme followed by something brand new from Diamante.

—————————————-
Extreme – Hole Hearted
Diamante – Ghost Myself
—————————————-

New Diamante song there, “Ghost Myself.” What do you think? Whatever age, we can all relate to once in a while wanting to be someone else, to walking away from our current life and doing it all over differently.

Before Diamante was Extreme “Hole Hearted” from 1990.

This is Rainbow from that same year on the Hard, Heavy & Hair tribute to 1990.

—————————————-
Rainbow – Since You Been Gone
[CLIP – Home Alone – Get On Your Knees and Show Me You Love Me] [CLIP – TMNT 1990 – what did you do did you take classes in insensitivity] Godsmack – Unforgettable
Shinedown – Atlas Falls
—————————————-

Slipping to number 22 this week, that was Shinedown and “Atlas Falls” following the number 1 Rock song for the fourth week in a row, “Unforgettable” by Godsmack.

I’ve got another Cover Song of the Week clue for you next, recent Dirty Shirley, as well as 1990 Scorpions, Damn Yankees, Poison, Fastway, Nelson, Baton Rouge, and lot’s more! Don’t go away!

[CLIP – TMNT 1990 – come back here i’m not finished with you]

Welcome back! I’m Pariah Burke, your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host for the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

[CLIP – Pump Up the Volume – Talk Hard]

Always. And you’re still listening as we’re entering hour two, so you know what that means?

[CLIP – Kingergarten Cop – You are Mine Now, You Belong to Me]

That’s right, and I’ll never let you go.

—————————————-
Steelheart – I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)
—————————————-

[CLIP – Home Alone – Get outta here you nosy pervert]

Ready for your second Cover Song of the Week clue?

This is another one about the artist who covered the song. This artist has a distinctive physical appearance, one that is rumored to be either the result of injecting heroin directly into a part of his body into which no one should ever inject heroin, OR from a custom medical procedure to enable the singer to see in black and white.

We’re getting close to the Cover Song of the Week! See if you can figure out what it is before I reveal it in a few minutes.

Let’s keep the songs from 1990 rolling with Baton Rouge and Fastway.

—————————————-
Baton Rouge – Walks Like a Woman
Fastway – Bad Bad Girls
—————————————-

Let’s take a quick break so you old farts cans ease your headaches.

[CLIP – Kingergarten Cop – It’s Not a Tumor] [CLIP – Kingergarten Cop – Stop Whining]

We’re back, with Conny Bloom and the Electric Boys.

—————————————-
Electric Boys – All Lips ‘n’ Hips
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Brace Yourself
The Wise Man’s Fear – What Went Wrong
—————————————-

The title is “What Went Wrong,” the band is The Wise Man’s Fear. Before it was Red Jumpsuit Apparatus with their latest, “Brace Yourself.”

More 1990s tribute and your final Cover Song of the Week clue is seconds away.

[CLIP – TMNT 1990 – pizza dude’s got 30 seconds mm hm] [CLIP – Home Alone – Give Up or Thirsty for More]

I’m Pariah Burke, and on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show tribute to 1990, this is Poison from their third studio album, Flesh & Blood. This is “Ride the Wind.”

—————————————-
Poison – Ride the Wind
Sleeze Beez – Stranger Than Paradise
—————————————-

Sleeze Beez, “Stranger Than Paradise” from 1990, just like the Cover Song of the Week.

There’s time enough for one more clue before I reveal the Cover Song of the Week, who covered it, and who originally recorded it.

Ready?

Lyrics from the song that is the Cover Song of the Week, at least the megahit version as sung by the original artists, contains several lyrics a lot of people get wrong. One such line people THINK the female vocalist sings is “I travel the world in generic jeans.” Another is–and this one will DEFINITELY give away the song title, which will then probably also tell you who originally recorded the song and who covers it in this week’s Cover Song of the Week–another line people often THINK is in the song is “Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to disagree?”

Got it now? The Cover Song of the Week is coming up. Before that, the Damn Yankees, “High Enough.”

[CLIP – Goodfellas – I Though He’d Never Shut the Fuck Up]

—————————————-
Damn Yankees – High Enough
—————————————-

For something more recent, this is Dirty Shirley, “Here Comes the King.”

—————————————-
Dirty Shirley – Here Comes the King
—————————————-

The Cover Song of the Week is next after a brief a word from our sponsors.

[CLIP – Total Recall – Whatever Your Name Is Get Ready for a Big Surprise] [CLIP – Commercial – 1990s – Back To The Future Part III On NBC] [COW] [CLIP – Home Alone – This is It Don’t Get Scared Now]

The Cover Song of the Week is “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” written and originally recorded by the then-romantically-involved duo the Eurythmics.

The artist who covered the 80s synth-pop classic with a much harder, darker version in 1990, is surrounded by myths. Two of those concern his different colored eyes, one of which is so light blue it’s nearly white. Some people think Marilyn Manson injected heroin directly into his left eyeball to make it its distinctive color. Others believe he deliberately had all the pigment removed from the iris so he could see in black and white. That’s not how eyes work, but the theory persists. The truth is far less fanatics.

[CLIP – Pump Up the Volume – Member Y Bother Generation]

I’ll tell you the REAL reason Marilyn Manson’s eyes are such starkly different colors after the music.

Here’s Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” followed immediately by the original Eurythmics version.

—————————————-
Dirty Shirley – Here Comes the King
—————————————-

[CLIP – Kingergarten Cop – Whos is Your Daddy]

That was “Sweet Dreams,” the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. The original Eurythmics version there following the 1995 Hard Rock cover by Marilyn Manson.

So what’s the true story about Marilyn’s two different eye colors? I gotta warn you, it’s not exciting. Spoiler alert. It’s just a contact lens. Not heroin injected into his eye. Not a surgery to allow him to see in black & white. Just a contact lens.

My name is Pariah Burke, I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny host and producer. Thank you for joining me for this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

We began the show with “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, and now we’re going to be struck by Thunder playing us out with the title track to their 1990 debut album, “Backstreet Symphony.”
