[INTRO]

You’re a muthafuckin’ rock star, ’cause Rock N’ Roll is what you need. This is rare hair from Shanghai.

[Profanity – Disclaimer]

—————————————-
Shanghai – Mutha F’king Rock Star
—————————————-

That was rare hair from Shanghai. It was a new song bonus track on the 25th Anniversary re-issue of the LP Take Another Bite released last year.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, and “Anything Goes” with Guns N’ Roses.

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – Anything Goes
Ratchet Dolls – Parasite!
—————————————-

I snuck in something new there. That was “Parasite,” the latest from Texas band the Ratchet Dolls. The Ratchets put out their debut album, Damaged, in 2017, and their sophomore album–whose title hasn’t been announced yet–will be out some time this year. “Parasite” is the second single from that upcoming 2020 album.

Let’s check in with classic Dokken, and then I’ll tell you about the other exciting new songs debuting in the next hour and a half.

—————————————-
Dokken – Alone Again
—————————————-

“Alone Again” from Dokken. I’ve got lots of new music, some rare hair, the Cover Song of the Week, and lots of your old favorites on this week’s show, and I’ll tell you all about them after this important message from a buddy of mine.

[PSA – Covid-19 – Brandon Yeagley from Crobot]

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, YOUR weekly dose of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today.

Coming up on the show is brand new music by Shinedown, Dynasty, Scott Stapp, Age of Days, and more; something rare and awesome from Def Leppard; the return of Vandenberg after 35 years; and hits and deep cuts from AC/DC, Warrant, Ratt, Damn Yankees, and Loverboy, among others.

Here’s brand new Axel Rudi Pell, “Wings of the Storm.”

—————————————-
Axel Rudi Pell – Wings of the Storm
The Rumours – Never Coming Back
—————————————-

The latest from the Rumours, a female-fronted Hard Rock and Glamish-Punk four-piece out of Waterloo, Iowa. The Rumours would be right at home opening for Joan Jett or Lita Ford. Hell, bassist Ela Rose and frontwoman Carli Foxx look like they could PLAY Lita Ford and Cheri Curry if a good film about the Runaways was ever made.

That band is dressed to kill and lookin’ dynamite, they’re all in a rage, and in America’s Bread Basket, they’re comin’ of age. This is the Damn Yankees.

Damn Yankees – Coming of Age

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The artist doing the Cover Song of the Week is by a singer who… Well, if you’re REALLY a Hard Rock and Metal superfan, you’ll know him instantly when I say he played Duke Fame in This Is Spinal Tap.

[clip – This Is Spinal Tap, “Duke Fame” scene]

I should clarify that, in that clip, you don’t actually hear the character of Duke Fame, just the people around him. If you remember the scene, then the singer who plays Duke Fame is the artist performing the Cover Song of the Week.

More and easier clues later.

Are you ready for the first new Vandenberg music in 35 years? It’s coming up next!

You’re listening to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. I’m Pariah Burke. This is AC/DC. You’re been… “Thunderstruck.”

—————————————-
AC/DC – Thunderstruck

Remember the Dutch band Vandenberg from the 80s? They had this big hit:

[Clip – Vandenberg “Burning Heart” (original)]

The band was named for guitarist Adrian Vandenberg. The band broke in the mid-80s and Adrian went on to join Whitesnake for their breakout 1987 tour and through the first disbanding of Whitesnake in 1990. Adrian even contributed the solo to “Here I Go Again,” though John Sykes played all the other guitar parts.

Then, of course, more recently was Adrian formed Vandenberg’s MoonKings, a band I’ve played on the show before. Now, though, Adrian has reformed a band under the moniker of just Vandenberg, and, for the first time in 35 years, is releasing new music.

Snubbing the entire old band, who all got together in 2012 and tried to wrest control of the Vandenberg band name from the guy BORN with the name, Adrian has assembled Brian Tichy on drums, the prolific Rudy Sarzo on bass, and ex-Rainbow vocalist Ronnie Romero to front the new lineup of Vandenberg. Together, they’re putting out a new album titled 2020 on May 29, and I have for you right now not one but two of the first singles.

In honor of the first new Vandenberg music in 35 years, here’s a Double Team of brand new Vandenberg, including a new 2020 re-recording of “Burning Heart” with the new lineup.

—————————————-
Vandenberg – Shadows Of The Night
Vandenberg – Burning Heart (2020 Re-Recorded Version)
—————————————-

“Shadows of the Night,” the first new music in 35 years from Dutch rockers Vandenberg followed by a new 2020 version of the band’s biggest hit, “Burning Heart,” featuring the new lineup.

This is a Dirty 30, a song turning 30 years old this year. It’s a Warrant deep cut from the Cherry Pie album. This is “Sure Feels Good to Me.”

Warrant – Sure Feels Good to Me

A Cover Song of the Week clue; a rare, truly special Def Leppard recording; brand new Shinedown, Skyfever, Scott Stapp; and more coming up. Stick around.

You remember Creed, right? Of course you do. Everyone hated Creed in the 90s. [chuckle] I mean, every woman loved Creed in the 90s. No, seriously, I like Creed, too. “Signs” is a badass song, and “Higher” makes my eyes leak because of… Well, a personal association to the song.

Creed’s lead singer Scott Stapp went solo in ’05, and his most recent album is last year’s The Space Between the Shadows. I’ve played several singles from that album on the show, including “Purpose for Pain” and “Name.” Scott just released the albums’s fifth single, and I’m really digging it. Check it out. This is Scott Stapp with “Survivor.”

—————————————-
Scott Stapp – Survivor [Single Edit] Skyfever – The Wait
—————————————-

Straight from Dublin, Ireland, that wast he band Skyfever and their newest, “The Wait.”

It’s time for another Cover Song of the Week clue.

Getting back to the artist doing the Metal Cover Song of the Week… He’s a singer that was part of Hear ‘n Aid in 1985, the Heavy Metal charity project that benefited famine relief in Africa. He’s also fronted King Kobra, Quiet Riot, and, until recently, Rough Cutt when he was replaced by my friend Steven St. James. This singer, whose initials are P.S., is also a current cast member of Raiding the Rock Vault at the Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

This is the Scorpions talking about something that seems to be happening more and more as we all shelter at home and alcohol sales jump by three and 400 percent. It’s “Blackout.”

—————————————-
Scorpions – Blackout
—————————————-

Wait… What did I just play? I think I… blacked out. That’s what I get, I suppose, for already finishing the bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean Aged bourbon I opened at the top of the show.

I was going to tell you something… What was it…? I love you, man. Oh, yeah!

I feel like that Cover Song of the Week clue was an extra tough one, so here’s an easier follow-up clue.

The Cover Song of the Week was made famous by Judy Collins who charted with it in both 1975 and ’77. But Judy wasn’t the first to record and release the song. The song was written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1973 Broadway musical A Little Night Music, which was an adaptation of the film Smiles of a Summer Night. So appealing was the song, that it escaped the stage to be immortalized on wax first by Frank Sinatra. It has since gone on to become a Jazz standard and to be covered in various styles by more than 300 musical artists! The latest, in a brand new release, is the Metal cover that is this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Think about. I gotta crack open another bottle of bourbon, so we’ll be right back. This is Loverboy “Lovin’ Every Minute of It”.

—————————————-
Loverboy – Lovin’ Every Minute Of It
—————————————-

Here we go. I’ll switch to drinking Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond for the rest of the show. 100-proof with some caramel and herbal notes, lots of oak spice and dried fruits… Yeah. This’ll keep me going for the rest of the show and “No More Tears.”

—————————————-
Ozzy Osbourne – No More Tears
Great White – Gonna Getcha
—————————————-

You just heard “Gonna Getcha,” a deep cut from ’87’s Once Bitten LP.

More new music, more old favorites, and one truly incredible, rare Def Leppard recording next.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. In just a couple of minutes I’ve got brand new Shinedown and ultra rare, raw Def Leppard for you. First, this is brand new Dynazty, “Waterfall.”

—————————————-
Dynazty – Waterfall
—————————————-

Shinedown just put out a brand new track, and it’s a big deal for a couple of reasons. It was actually a song cut from 2012’s Amaryllis album. Lead vocalist Brent Smith said that he, the rest of the band, and the entire Shinedown family, want the world to know we’re in this global pandemic together, that we must all do our part to continue to encourage, love, respect, and take care of each other. So Shinedown released this next song, “Atlas Falls,” a song needed now more than ever. As you listen to this song, I want you to also consider PURCHASING the song from PariahRocks.com in the show notes for Hard, Heavy & Hair number 248. If you purchase the “Atlas Falls” song and t-shirt bundle, 100% of the proceeds will go to Shinedown’s Atlas Falls Tee organization to buy personal protective equipment for medical workers who desperately, desperately need them.

I can personally attest to that. Several of my friends are nurses who working their asses off and sacrificing so much trying to keep the highest risk people–hospitalized children, cancer patients, and elderly memory care residents–safe during this time. And those nurses I know? They’ve been issued one paper mask each, and told they can’t replace them; there simply aren’t enough masks. So these nurses are wearing the same masks day after day, with patient after patient, for literally weeks at a time. Not until they get–and this is straight from hospital and facility administrators–not until they get blood, urine, or fecal matter on the masks can nurses request a new mask.

Medical professionals need new masks and other personal protective equipment, and one way you can help is to buy this next song and a t-shirt from Shinedown. Again, just visit the Show number 248 show notes on PariahRocks.com for that link. 100% of the proceeds go to buying PPE for heroic medical professionals who are risking their lives and their families’ lives to keep other people, other people’s children, and other people’s grandmas and grandpas safe.

This is Shinedown, “Atlas Falls.”

Def Leppard just released an album called RAW: The Early BBC Recordings. It’s a fascinating series of songs recorded playing live on BBC shows like the Radio One Friday Rock Show, which was hosted by the legendary Tommy Vance, who started one of the radio stations currently airing this very show, TotalRock, which is celebrates its 20th anniversary this year! Happy anniversary, TotalRock!

Anyway, this is my favorite track from Def Leppard’s RAW: Early BBC Recordings album. It’s a real treat to listen to Def Leppard from way back before they became huge. This is “Satellite”.

BulletBoys – Slow and Easy
—————————————-

Cinderella, “Shake Me.”

It’s time for your final Cover Song of the Week clue.

The lyrics for the Cover Song of the Week are often misinterpreted as being about circus-style clowns, though the title and chorus used the word “clowns” as a synonym for “fools.” Thus, as the song winds down and the singer says “don’t bother, they’re here,” the message is the failing of an singer’s career, and the singer IS the fool he was asking be sent in to entertain the flagging audience.

Think about that. The Cover Song of the Week is next on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

[COW]

So what song, made famous in the 70s by Judy Collins but originally recorded and released by Frank Sinatra, a song covered more than 300 times in just about every genre of music, talks about fools and clowns? Obviously, the song is “Send in the Clowns.”

Did you guess who covered it in a brand new single? The former lead singer for Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot, and King Kobra, who played Duke Fame in This Is Spinal Tap, is none other than Paul Shortino.

Here is with this solo band, Shortino, doing a brand new Metal cover of “Send in the Clowns.” The original Frank Sinatra version follows the Cover Song of the Week. And right after that, is another brand new song from Age of Days.

—————————————-
Shortino – Send In The Clowns

—————————————-

That was “Send in the Clowns,” the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. That was the original version by Frank Sinatra following the cover by former Rough Cutt frontman and This Is Spinal Tap actor Paul Shortino.

And this is another new song premiere. Featuring my friend, Tense Machine’s Mike Langford on drums, this is Age of Days and new single “Dying on the Inside.”
