[INTRO]

What do you want from me? Flaming fire or a little rush? I can give you so much more. A fantasy, and you can do it all on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, starting with “Rock On” from Fastway.

—————————————-
Fastway – Rock On
—————————————-

That was Fastway, “Rock On,” kicking off another all new Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

This is Sons of Apollo, “Divine Addiction,” from 2017’s Psychotic Symphony.

—————————————-
Sons of Apollo – Divine Addiction
Ozzy Osbourne – Under The Graveyard
—————————————-

Up to Number 5 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Chart, that was Ozzy Osbourne with “Under the Graveyard.”

Coming up on the show I’ve got for you brand new I Prevail, Dark Station, and Static Cycle, as well as plenty of hits and deep cuts from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 20-teens, and today in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair.

By request from Hard Rocking and cool Mom Rena in Lakeland, Florida, this is “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” by the unmistakable AC/DC.

More new music and old favorites right after this!

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. I’m your host, Pariah Burke. On a steel horse I ride, today at least, the first time this year because of all the rain. This is Bon Jovi, “Wanted Dead or Alive” followed by brand new I Prevail.

—————————————-
Bon Jovi – Wanted Dead or Alive
I Prevail – Hurricane (Acoustic) Clean
—————————————-

You can’t currently buy that song anywhere or even find it on Spotify. That’s the radio-exclusive acoustic version of “Hurricane” by I Prevail.

Lot’s of requests on this week’s show, including this next one.

For Dee Adkins, the manager of such bands as Rough Cutt, Ron Keel, and Veio, this is Kill Devil Hill “Strange” by request.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue? Remember: the first one is always the hardest.

The 1984 Cover Song of the Week original was written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, who would go on to write many other hit songs for the original recording artist, even though she wasn’t the original artist Lyle and Britten offered the song to. First, they offered it to Cliff Richard–the third-top-selling artist in the UK Singles Chart history–but ol’ Cliff turned down the song. It was also offered to Phyllis Hyman, but Arista Records and Clive Davis would allow her to record it. Donna Summer was next, but she just sat on the song for years. Finally, it was recorded and made famous in 1984 by the Queen of Rock N’ Roll. That household name singer made the song her biggest hit. In 2012, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, giving this sexy singer her third Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

Who was that? There’s only one woman who as ever been called the Queen of Rock N’ Roll, and she originally recorded the Cover Song of the Week that’s getting a Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, or Hair Band rendition later in the show.

Think about. More and easier clues later.

More music next.

I’m Pariah Burke. I might be a little young, but honey I ain’t naive. This Guns N’ Roses with “Rocket Queen.”

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – Rocket Queen
—————————————-

G N’ R there, and Stone Sour here. This is “Absolute Zero.”

—————————————-
Stone Sour – Absolute Zero
Rough Cutt – Dreamin’ Again
Fozzy – Painless
—————————————-

By request for video maven, the Other Purple One, Vicky Ryder in Baltimore, that was “Painless” from Fozzy, the band fronted by WWE wrestling star Chris Jericho.

Still coming up on the show is new debuts from Dark Station and Static Cycle, the Cover Song of the Week, and hits and deep cuts from Metallica, Soundgarden, the Rumors, Motley Crue, the Electric Boys, and more.

For the first time since I’ve been in the air, I got a request from my dad. Well, my dad has given me requests for the show before. Requests like please don’t bang this particular chick or that particular chick–again, I’m sorry about Debbie, Dad. I didn’t know she was your new girlfriend’s mother. My dad has made other requests for the show too, like requesting that I not mention his name on the air, or let anybody know we’re related, but this is the first time in all the years on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show that my dad has actually requested a song of me to play. So, of course, I’m going to play it.

From the 1970 Closer to Home LP on Capitol Records, this is first generation Hard Rockers Grand Funk Railroad with “Mean Mistreater.”

—————————————-
Grand Funk Railroad – Mean Mistreater
—————————————-

Grand Funk Railroad by request for my very own father.

From the groundbreaking 1983 album Kill ‘Em All, this is deep cut “Motorbreath.” It’s Metallica on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

If the reference to the Queen of Rock N’ Roll is throwing you, maybe a reference to the more recent covering artist will help. This Swedish Hard Rock and Metal five-piece plays fast, like a gatling gun. They also just released a new album titled Burn ‘Em All on February 28th, though the Cover Song of the Week comes from their 2014 LP Jail. On that record, the Cover Song of the Week is the last track.

That’s kind of a hard clue, too, so I’m going to make the third clue much, much easier. Stick around. I think you’ll figure out the song from the next clue.

This next request comes from London, England where Claire Moat listens to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show on the longest running and largest Metal and Rock radio station in every media, the legendary TotalRock, the Voice of Rock and Metal. Claire’s a friend, but she also manages this next band. This is Burnt Out Wreck with their single “This Is Hell.”

—————————————-
Burnt Out Wreck – This Is Hell
Mötley Crüe – Girls, Girls, Girls
—————————————-

“Girls, Girls, Girls” from Motley Crue firing us up just before a quick break for station identification. Don’t go anywhere.

Do you remember drive-in movie theaters? There was still one operating outside of my town when I was in high school. My first car was the size of a battleship, and I my friends and I would triple-date at the drive-in in that car. My date and I would sit on the bench front seat and pay for us, while another couple laid on the floor in the back seat, covered by a blanket, and a third couple was hiding in the trunk. Yeah, my first car was THAT big. Not a chick-magnet car by any means, but it had its uses–especially when my girl and I would go ALONE to the drive-in theatre in it.

Why did I tell you that story? Well, I ran into some folks from high school recently while traveling, and it brought back the memories. This next song–especially the reference to the backseat at the drive-in–was part of those memories. This is Poison “Your Mama Don’t Dance.”

—————————————-
Poison – Your Mama Don’t Dance
Jeff Beck – Dirty Mind (Instrumental)
—————————————-

I very, very rarely play instrumentals on the show, but I hope you liked that one. That was the incomparable Jeff Beck with the super tasty, extra groovy “Dirty Mind” by request for Mr. Ward in Westlake Village, California.

Exploding onto the scene from Sweden, this is Pinstripe Conspiracy and “Fool in Love” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Pinstripe Conspiracy – Fool in Love
—————————————-

That band was Pinstripe Conspiracy. If you play drums and don’t mind moving to Stockholm where weed and prostitution are legal, Pinstripe Conspiracy is currently looking for a new drummer. Reach out to Adrienne Hawe Music Management or visit PinstripeConspiracy.com to throw your sticks in the ring.

B-R-B.

When was the last time you heard of a band from Alaska? Don’t get me wrong: I love Alaska. I’ve travelled up there quite a few times. I’ve been to Point Barrow, roughly 280 miles north of the Arctic Circle, where I’ve walked on the surface of the Arctic Ocean, eaten things you wouldn’t believe, and come nose-to-nose with a wild polar bear. All completely true.

And, I’ve been to Anchorage, where this next band hails from. With brand new song “Boxes,” this is Static Cycle.

—————————————-
Static Cycle – Boxes
Soundgarden – Black Rain
—————————————-

By request for my high school classmate and fellow radio disc jockey, Vance Pollack, that was Soundgarden’s “Black Rain,” the only previously unreleased track from 2010’s compilation album Telephantasm. “Black Rain” was recorded during the seminal BadMotorFinger sessions, but was left off that 1991 album.

Originally released in May 2019, this next song, “Heroes,” was re-released this week in advance of the young band’s first live performance together at LA’s Viper Room on March 27th. Describing themselves as “poised to cement the band’s name as a commendable force in the Rock w orld, and rising to the challenge of aiding in Rock’s revival, this is the new age. This is Dark Station.”

—————————————-
Dark Station – Heroes
The Rumours – I Want Your Love (Want Your Drugs)
—————————————-

I like it when women are strong enough to tell you honestly and openly exactly what they want. That was chick-fronted–their words, not mine–bad to the bone crue straight out the sleazy pits of Rock N Roll Hell, which apparently has a portal in Waterloo, Iowa–four-piece band The Rumors. The song title is “I Want Your Love (Want Your Drugs)” and is another request from a fellow music-slinger, Bob Long from Canton, Illinois. Bob owns Shandi’s Music & More, which one patron describes as “That perfect hole in the wall mom-and-pop shop stuffed full of Decades and Decades of rare and hard-to-find new and used CDs books action figures t-shirts posters and more.” If you’re anywhere near Canton, IL, check out Shandi’s Music & More and support small music stores.

For your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue I promised you something much easier. Think about the song itself. It contains such memorable lyrics as:

You must understand though the touch of your hand
Makes my pulse react
That it’s only the thrill of boy meeting girl

And
What’s love but a second hand emotion

And
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

You know the song. And you know who originally sang it. That means you know 2 out of 3 parts of the Cover Song of the Week mystery. Learn the third–and hear the Cover Song of the Week itself–right after this.

[COW]

Who is the Queen of Rock N’ Roll? That would be Tina Turner. You can argue that all you want, but that is one of Tina’s titles. Her biggest hit was “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” a song written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle and offered to Cliff Richard, Phyllis Hyman, and Donna Summer before Tina had a shot at it. When she took her shot, she knocked it out of the park, making it one of 1984’s biggest hits, one that would net Tina Turner her third Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

Swedish band Confess covered the song on their 2014 debut album, Jail. This is their Harder, Heavier, Hairier rendition. This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week, “What’s Love Got to Do with It” by Confess, followed immediately by the Tina Turner original for comparison by true music fans.

That was “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” the original by Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock N’ Roll, following the 2014 Hard Rock cover by Confess. Confess’s version is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.
