Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

This is the final Hard, Heavy & Hair Show of 2019, and I’ve gone savage. So for everything that 2019 did for you, for everything it did TO you, I want you to reach down and scrape it, you just got to primal scream and shout! Let that mother out!

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Primal Scream
—————————————-

Motley Crue kicking off the last Hard, Heavy & Hair Show of the year–but not of the decade. People keep saying it’s the end of the year and the end of the decade. It’s not. 2021 is the beginning of a new decade while 2020 is the last year in the decade. We count decades 1 to 10, not 0 to 9.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

I’ve got some great stuff and some musical savagery coming up this hour and next, but how’s about I tell you what all that is AFTER something brand new from Five Finger Death Punch? This is “Inside Out” with a little Ice Nine Kills following.

—————————————-
Five Finger Death Punch – Inside Out [Radio Edit] Ice Nine Kills – Savages
—————————————-

“Savage” by Ice Nine Kills setting us up for a Hard, Heavy & Hair episode I could only title “Gone Savage.”

Coming up this hour is my interview with Ian Salpekar from the band Gone Savage, your first Cover Song of the Week clue, and brand new music mixed in with your old favorites and even rare hair. At some point in the next two hours you’re going to hear brand new LA Guns, Breaking Benjamin, Saul, From Ashes to New, and Savage Hands, as well some wild hits by Danger Danger, Guns N’ Roses, Damn Yankees, Kiss, Eclipse, and more.

You might even say all Hell’s breakin’ loose!

—————————————-
KISS – All Hell’s Breakin’ Loose
—————————————-

If you turn your ear inward, you might hear your inner savagery ripping through the skin of civilization. “Welcome to the Jungle.”

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle
Danger Danger – Monkey Business
—————————————-

2019 has been a great year for monkey business for me, though I had a thing for redheads more often than for blondes this year. I hope your year was also filled with the monkey business, that you had plenty of bungle in the jungle. If not,… well, maybe 2020 will be your year.

You just heard “Monkey Business” from Danger Danger’s 1991 sophomore album Screw It.

This is brand new Breaking Benjamin, “Far Away.”

Sons Of Texas – Lock, Stock, and Barrel

The newest from Sons of Texas, “Lock, Stock, and Barrel.”

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week is from one of TWO albums this German Metal band released in 2018. Not many bands can put out two albums in the same year–and only 1 year since their previous LP–so that’s a pretty big hint for the Rock and Metal historians in the audience. If it helps, that covers LP was titled Legends while the other album, the one of original songs, is Temple of Lies.

More, and easier, clues later.

My interview with Ian Salpekar from Gone Savage is next.

Coming up next hour is the Cover Song of the Week, brand new LA Guns, Saul, Savage Hands, and From Ashes to New, and hits and deep cuts from Damn Yankees, Skid Row, Dokken, Butcher Babies, and more.

This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

And this is brand new Savage Hands, “Demon.”

No matter how old you are, as long as you have a hairy heart, you’ll always be the “Youth Gone Wild.”

Skid Row, then Dokken with “Tooth and Nail,” and finally “Savages” from Theory of a Deadman and Alice Cooper on this Gone Savage final Hard, Heavy & Hair Show of 2019.

I’m Pariah Burke. On a steel horse I ride–sometimes in even in the rain and snow, depending on my mood–and I’m wanted by a few exes, dead or alive. This is Bon Jovi.

Slaughter – The Wild Life
Eclipse – Delirious

The latest from Eclipse, “Delirious,” following “The Wild Life” from Slaughter.

I’m Pariah Burke, and this is your second Cover Song of the Week clue.

The Cover Song of the Week original, an uplifting, driving Rock anthem, was the theme song to the biggest movie of 1982. If you were old enough then, you were singing the song right along with everyone else. It was HUGE on the radio. And it’s still a big anthem today with more than 9 million digital and physical sales of the single. Pretty much every English speaker on Earth knows the song, even if they have no idea who this is:

[Clip – Rocky III – Mr T – Ready for Another Beating, Shoulda Never Came Back]

Think about it. This is “Every Second,” the new single From Ashes to new featuring Eva Under Fire.

And this is the newest from Saul, “Trial by Fire” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

Damn Yankees – Piledriver

“Piledriver” by the Damn Yankees telling us how to end every night. To feel alive, you got to pile drive. Can I get an amen, brothers and sisters?

[Clip – Amen]

All right.

Ready for your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue?

I told you the Cover Song of the Week original was the theme for the biggest movie of 1982. That movie was written and directed by, and stars, a moviemaker everyone knows about, a man with a unique voice and presence. The first two films in the franchise used instrumental scores, but for the third installment, that moviemaker wanted a rousing Rock theme. He wanted Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” to be that theme, but Queen denied him permission. So that moviemaker asked another band to write a song specifically for the film. The song they wrote tied “Another One Bites the Dust” for longest run as the Billboard Number 1 song for the entire decade of the 80s.

Still stumped? Well, it might help to know that the version of the song that appears in the film is the demo version, not the single or album version that would be released the day after the film’s premiere, and that that movie soundtrack version features a sound effect not in the released song–tiger growls.

[Clip – Tiger Growls]

Ponder that.

This is Maverick with “In Our Blood.”

The Cover Song of the Week is next.

Let me ask you: Did you do your time, take your chances? Did you lose your grip on the dreams of the past, or did you fight to keep them alive?

And, more to the point, did you figure out that the Cover Song of the Week is “Eye of the Tiger,” originally by Survivor but covered this week by Bonfire?

I’m sure you did, because you got the guts, got the glory.

Speaking of guts and passion: many people don’t realize that Sylvester Stallone

[Clip – Yo]

created and wrote Rocky. In fact, he wrote or co-wrote every Rocky movie except Creed. Stallone also directed many of the films in the series. He’s a smart man. Survivor’s Jim Peterik said the same thing when Stallone asked him to remix and rewrite part of “Eye of the Tiger.” Stallone wanted louder drums and a third verse with different lyrics. According to Peterik, “Stallone has a good ear for a hook. Just listen to his dialogues. He came up with ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ for [the Rocky III] script and those hook phrases like ‘I’m going to knock you into tomorrow.’ All that stuff is Stallone, he’s a genius with dialogue. Songs are nothing more than dialogue set to music.” So, Peterik took Stallone’s direction and the result was a masterpiece anthem.

Here it is, the Cover Song of the Week, “Eye of the Tiger.” First is the 2018 cover by German Hard Rockers Bonfire, and then the timeless original by Survivor.
