Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

Welcome to the show! We’re gonna rock and roll all night and party every day, starting with Kiss!

—————————————-
KISS – Rock and Roll All Nite
—————————————-

I’ll drive you wild, and Kiss will drive you crazy, here on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host.

Thank you for joining me.

I’ve got for you Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, aaannnnd Hair Bands, ’cause that’s the name of the God-dern show–Hard, Heavy & Hair. Let’s start with some hair by “Makin’ a Mess” of Skid Row.

—————————————-
Skid Row – Makin’ a Mess
Britny Fox – Long Way to Love
—————————————-

“Long Way to Love” by Britny Fox from their self-titled 1988 debut following Skid Row.

This is Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair.

Coming up this hour is…

How about we kick off the new songs you’ll hear on this show with the very latest from god-like supergroup Sons of Apollo giving up their godhood. This is “Goodbye Divinity” from their upcoming 2020 album titled 2020 in Roman numerals.

—————————————-
Sons Of Apollo – Goodbye Divinity
—————————————-

You know, most people think of the Greek god Apollo as the Sun god, which he was, but he was also the God of Music and the inventor of string music, according to mythology. It’s apropos that a band that includes guitarist Bumblefoot and bass demi-god Billy Sheehan would choose Apollo as their patron.

Speaking of Rock Gods, coming up is an entire pantheon of Metal and Hard Rock gods and goddesses joining together in a new charity song whose proceeds will benefit people with mental healthy issues. That’s next.

What do you get when you put Lzzy Hale, Joe Elliot, Dan Reed, Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Whitfield Crane, Phil Campbell, Alice Cooper, and 11 other Hard Rock and Metal musicians in one room to benefit a mental health charity? You get a We-Are-The-World-style benefit song called “You’re the Voice.” And here it is on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
The Planet Rock All Stars – You’re The Voice
—————————————-

From the Planet Rock All Stars, that was “You’re the Voice,” a cover of John Farnham’s 1986 hit.

Can I ask you a favor? Seriously. If you have one dollar and 29 cents, please, please, please buy that song as an MP3. The reason I’m asking, is because 100% of the proceeds from the sale of that song, go to the mental healthy charity, MIND. It’s less than a buck and a half, and it can help someone deal with PTSD, Depression, Schizophrenia, and dozens of other mental health issues.

The song will be officially released for download on December 6th. You can pre-order it now on PariahRocks.com in the show notes for Hard, Heavy & Hair show number 228. Please. Will you do that for me? Just buy a copy of “You’re the Voice” from the Planet Rock All Stars? A dollar-29. That’s all, to help a person in a mental health crisis.

Here’s Live with “Hold Me Up” followed by your first Cover Song of the Week clue.

—————————————-
Live – Hold Me Up
—————————————-

The Cover Song of the Week original was released right before Valentine’s Day 1977, which is ironic since the song was written by, and about, the five-piece British and American group’s various internal relationships, marriages, and love affairs falling apart. This member was cheating on that member; this other member was sleeping with the ex of that member. Not only does the song’s lyrics and music mirror this fracturing and reunification, so does the process by which the song was created. It’s made up largely of pieces of other music the various band members had worked on, with most of those pieces assembled literally by using razor and adhesive to connect the links of the song together on tape.

That’s your first clue. More and easier clues later.

Let’s do a double-shot of 80s Metal, starting with Ratt, “Round and Round.”

—————————————-
Ratt – Round and Round
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
—————————————-

“Highway to Hell” from AC/DC. Rare hair and brand new Whitesnake is next.

In case you’ve been living under a rock or camping out for Black Friday, Motley Crue has reunited and will begin touring again in 2020. They’re all their way. They’ve been set free. It’s “Home Sweet Home.”

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Home Sweet Home
—————————————-

I’ve got another Cover Song of the Week clue for you.

The artist performing the Cover Song of the Week is a band with a name that means “a dissipation or disappearance like vapor.” It’s a description that fits the symphonic, theatrical Metal sound and deeply emotional lyrics that, uh, bring this female-fronted band to life.

This band is similar to Whitesnake in that no two albums feature the same band lineup–only the front person is constant. You could say this week’s covering artist front woman is What You Want, perhaps even My Immortal, but the band is an Open Door of Sweet Sacrifice that will Bring Her to Life.

Ponder that while we check out brand new Whitesnake, “Good to See You Again.”

—————————————-
Whitesnake – Good To See You Again
—————————————-

New Whitesnake there. When David Coverdale took a break in ’92 and put Whitesnake on hiatus, band members Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Szarzo, and Adrian Vandenberg created a very short-lived supergroup along with Chris Trujillo. They initially brought in House of Lords frontman James Christian for vocals, but instead settled on Ron Young, who used to sing for Little Caesar. Together they put out just one LP under the band name Manic Eden before disbanding.

Naturally, I have a copy of that one-and-only Manic Eden CD.

In the category of very rare hair, here’s that long gone super group with “When the Hammer Comes Down” only on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————–
Manic Eden – When The Hammer Comes Down
—————————————-

Coming up in the next hour is brand new Ozzy–a song I think sounds much more like classic Ozzy than his last new single, “Under the Graveyard”–as well as a couple of tracks from the new Hollywood Hairspray compilation, the Cover Song of the Week, and more.

Welcome back to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. You’re gonna die.

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle
Falling In Reverse – Popular Monster [Radio Edit] —————————————-

Brand new song “Popular Monster” from Falling in Reverse.

Perris Records has this great sampler series called Hollywood Hairspray. They just put out Volume 8, which includes music from bands that feature former members of Journey, Tyketto, Extreme, Firehouse, and others. I thought I’d play for you a couple of the lesser-known bands on Hollywood Hairspray, Volume 8 you might want to check out. First is Walker with the song “Time to Party” and then “Top of the World” from the Athens, Greece band Rain or Shine on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Walker – Time To Party
Rain Or Shine – Top Of The World
—————————————-

A couple of tracks off the new Perris Records Melodic Hard Rock sampler Hollywood Hairspray, Volume 8.

This is Saul and “Brother.”

—————————————-
Saul – Brother
—————————————-

Don’t go away! Brand new old style Ozzy is coming up for before long.

I’m Pariah Burke. I like the Unskinny Bop. Here’s Poison on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Poison – Unskinny Bop
Can’t Swim – Power (feat. Frank Carter)
Madzilla – Vengeance
—————————————-

Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, that was Madzilla with their song “Vengeance” following the short ditty “Power” from Can’t Swim with Frank Carter of Gallows and Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes guesting on vocals.

Did you hear Ozzy’s song “Under the Graveyard”? I debuted it on Hard, Heavy & Hair 226 two weeks ago–and made some Post Malone jokes at the time. But, frankly, I was underwhelmed with the new song. If you were too, you might like this second single from Ozzy’s upcoming album. The lyrics leave a little to be desired, but the music and singing sound more like 70s and 80s Ozzy than “Under the Graveyard” did.

This is brand new Ozzy Osbourne, “Straight to Hell”

—————————————-
Ozzy Osbourne – Straight To Hell
—————————————-

“I’ll make you scream / I’ll make you defecate.” That’s some Grammy Award-winning lyrical writing there. Maybe Ozzy is the new spokesman for Dude Wipes and Depends Adult Diapers, so he’s working senior-friendly bathroom references into his songs.

Jeez.

On that sad note, let’s head out to where the down boys go. This is Warrant.

—————————————-
Warrant – Down Boys
White Lion – When the Children Cry
—————————————-

From the Pride LP back in ’87, that was White Lion with their hit “When the Children Cry.”

Ready for another Cover Song of the Week clue?

If you’re a video gamer, you might have already heard part of the Cover Song of the Week back in September when it was featured in the trailer for the fifth installment of the popular Xbox game series Gears of War. The Grammy Award-winning band that did that segment of the song finished the effort and just released it as a full song–that’s the Cover Song of the Week you’ll hear shortly–when the wind blows and down comes the night.

Think about that while Sixx A.M. sings to us about the opiod crisis in “Talk to Me.”

—————————————-
Sixx A.M. – Talk to Me
—————————————-

The Cover Song of the Week is next.

[COW]

Did you guess the song, covering artist, or original artist from the clues and hints I dropped?

Released in 1977, the song “The Chain” was written by all the members of Fleetwood Mac, though none of them would actually be in the studio together at the same time. That was due to the fact that all five members of the band were romantically involved in some form or fashion, and those romances were falling apart.

Stevie Nicks wrote the lyrics to the song about her relationship with fellow vocalist Lindsey Buckingham. At the same time, keyboardist Christine McVie was leaving her husband and bandmate, bassist John McVie. They would divorce before the single even hit number 1 on the charts. Also at the time, the fifth and final member of Fleetwood Mac, Mick Fleetwood, was leaving HIS wife and would, on the tour to support the Rumors album featuring the Cover Song of the Week original, start an affair with Stevie Nicks.

Despite ALLLLLL of that, Fleetwood Mac stayed together. In fact, “The Chain” is ABOUT the band holding them all together AS a band, despite them all jumping beds and breaking vows.

Covering the song that became Fleetwood Mac’s anthem and signature song for the fifth installment of the Gears of War Xbox game series is Evanescence, a band for whom the song has a different meaning. Evanescence endures, but never features the same players other than Amy Lee herself.

Released just this week, here’s the Cover Song of the Week, “The Chain,” by Gothic Metal and Hard Rock band Evanescence followed immediately the original Fleetwood Mac version.

“The Chain,” the original from Fleetwood Mac, following the brand new cover by Evanesence, which is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.
