Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

I’m Pariah Burke and I am the one hiding under your stairs, fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair.

This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair annual All Hallow’s Eve episode because THIS. IS. HALLOWEEN!

—————————————-
Marilyn Manson – This Is Halloween
—————————————-

Is there any more enduring Halloween classic than Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas? I submit that there is not. There, hard, and heavy, and hairy, and hot, is Marilyn Manson’s 1993 cover of the film’s theme song.

As I noted at the top of the show, this is a special episode of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. On this All Hallow’s Eve show are Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair–just like any normal week on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. But this week, we’re [chuckle] deadening up your Halloween to help you bang your severed heads to spooky, wicked, vampiric, and ghastly Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands.

Every Hard, Heavy & Hairy song you’ll hear on this show is related to Halloween.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard dying, heavy souled, hairball of a hauntingly handsome ghost–[chuckle] I mean HOST–on this All Hallow’s Eve Hard, Heavy & Hair Show tour of a haunted cemetery.

Grab your treat or blood bags, don your garlic necklaces, ready your wooden stakes and silver bullets, and make sure your flashlight has extra batteries.

This is going to be a dark and scary ride!

[evil laugh]

We have to take a break while I seek sustenance sucking near a young intern’s femoral artery. When we come back I’ll have your first Cover Song of the Week clue, brand new music from Selfish Things, and lots more.

I’m Pariah Burke, and I’m scared.

—————————————-
Dangerous Toys – Scared
Alice Cooper – Feed My Frankenstein
—————————————-

“Feed My Frankenstein” by Alice Cooper from 1991’s Hey, Stoopid LP. I saw Alice open for Motley Crue on their farewell tour, and then 67, the man still jumped around and put on a hell of a show. If you want to see him live, you can now and all next year. Alice just announced a tour with Lita Ford that kicks off in Fort Myers, Florida on November 3rd and continues until they bring the roof down on the Keller Auditorium in my town in April. Shortly before that, I expect Alice will announce another leg of the tour to visit beyond North America. Check AliceCooper.com slash Tour for dates, tickets, and VIP packages.

I told you this special show isn’t just your old favorite Halloween-related songs. There’s also two brand new songs debuting this week, and this next song is the first. From Toronto, this is Pure Noise Records recording artist Selfish Things with their new single, “Blood.”

Selfish Things – Blood
—————————————-

It’s time for your first Cover Song of the Week clue. Remember: the first clue is always the hardest.

The Cover Song of the Week original was written and recorded in 1984 by a singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist who got his start in the 1960s Motown era. Although the artist has written or played for a Pop and R&B Who’s Who list that includes Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, and Bill Withers, the world primarily knows this artist only for the Cover Song of the Week original. It’s a song he found difficult to write because he needed to work the title into the lyrics, and the title isn’t easy to rhyme or write to. In fact, this artist never actually sings the title in the song; instead, he had his girlfriend and her friends shout the title in the song’s chorus.

It’s long clue, true. The next clues will be much shorter. In fact, the third Cover Song of the Week clue is only four words. I can all but guarantee you’ll solve the mystery on the third clue if you don’t solve it long before then.

Think about this first one while we take a quick break. When we come back, I’ll go silent as the grave and focus on the music.

—————————————-
Metallica – Enter Sandman
Evanescence – Bring Me to Life
Backyard Babies – 44 Undead
—————————————-

From their 2019 Silver & Gold LP from Gain Music/Sony Music, that was the newest from Swedish Sleaze rockers Backyard Babies. The song is called “44 Undead.” Before it was Evanescence’s biggest hit, “Bring Me to Life,” and, starting off the trio of haunting tracks, Metallica with “Enter Sandman.”

This is “Dance Macabre” from Ghost.

—————————————-
Ghost – Dance Macabre
Nazareth – Never Dance with the Devil
—————————————–

“Never Dance with the Devil,” the lead track on Nazareth’s 2018 album Tattooed on My Brain.

Coming up in the next hour of this hauntingly hellacious Hard, Heavy & Hair Halloween show is the Cover Song of the Week, Sabbath, Dokken, Kix, and much more. Stay tuned.

[Tease next hour]

You might have thought you were safe and set free, but the nightmare is just beginning with rare hair from Streets.

—————————————-
Streets – The Nightmare Begins
Kix – Cold Chills
—————————————-

“Cold Chills” from Kix resulting from the “The Nightmare Begins” by long-dead supergroup Streets featuring Kansas frontman Steve Walsh on vocals.

This is Hardland with “Haunted.”

—————————————-
Hardland – Haunted
—————————————-

Step into the flickering street light for a moment and take what little feeling of safety you can from this night. While you do that, let me give you your second Cover Song of the Week clue.

The covering artist is a Hard Rock band from St. Louis, Missouri sometimes classified as Post-Grunge. One of their songs was included in the 2009 Chicago destruction film, The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Here’s a clip of that song.

[Clip – Let It Go]

That’s your second of three clues. Try to hold onto it as your reason dissolves, as your primal animal instincts takeover your rational human mind. For it’s All Hallow’s Eve, the moon is full, and you’re beginning to transform. It’s time to “Bark at the Moon.”

—————————————-
Ozzy Osbourne – Bark at the Moon
—————————————-

Keep your dead hands off the dial. I’ll be right back to haunt you again.

Welcome back, now “Go to Hell.”

—————————————-
Megadeth – Go to Hell
Mötley Crüe – Helter Skelter
Whitesnake – Nighthawk (Vampire Blues)
—————————————-

In order, that was Megadeth with “Go to Hell,” Shout at the Devil classic “Helter Skelter” from the Crue, and a Whitesnake rarity from the band’s 1978 debut album. That song was “Nighthawk (Vampire Blues).

Next is Dokken, Helloween, new Hollywood Undead, and more. While you wait remember: the number cause of death in the world today is living.

You’re listening the Hard, Heavy & Hair annual All Hallow’s Eve show, which is completely different than the streaming-only, on-demand, 8-hours of no-talk, all-music A Hard, Heavy & Hairy Halloween streaming at your grim whim from PariahRocks.com.

It’s “Halloween” from Helloween.

—————————————-
Helloween – Halloween
Godsmack – Vampires
—————————————-

“Vampires” by Godsmack.

This next band’s name is perfect for Halloween, as is their brand new single, “Almost Dead.” This is Hollywood Undead.

—————————————-
Hollywood Undead – Almost Dead
—————————————-

For the third and final Cover Song of the Week clue, a Cover Song of the Week that fits perfectly with this Halloween-week show, I have just four words for you: Who you gonna call?

Think about that while we go to battle against Freddy Krueger with Dokken, “Dream Warriors”.

—————————————–
Dokken – Dream Warriors
—————————————-

I need another taste of my sexy new intern’s, uh, blood, so let’s take a break while I nibble. The Cover Song of the Week is next.

[COW]

You MUST already know the Cover Song of the Week, so I’ll spare you a long wrap-up of the clues. The original is by Ray Parker, Jr., a brilliant musician with a long career most people only know from this 1984 theme for the Ghostbusters film. His original version of the song follows the actual Cover Song of the Week by St. Louis Hard Rock and Post-Grunge outfit Cavo.

Who you gonna call?

—————————————-

Cavo covering Ray Parker, Jr on the Cover Song of the Week. The original song is titled “Ghostbusters,” but Cavo retitled their cover “Ghost (Ghostbusters Theme).”

This is L.A. Guns, a band still very much alive, but also, “Long Time Dead.”
