In an interview on Sunday with Talking Shred, George Lynch announced that there IS a Dokken and Lynch Mob tour in the works. It’ll feature the current Dokken lineup of Don, Wild Mick Brown, Jon Levin, and Chris McCarvill without George. George WILL play with Lynch Mob, of course, but he expects to close the Dokken/Lynch Mob performances by coming back out and doing a few Dokken songs with Don.

Lynch Mob is also nearly done with their next record, he said. The current lineup of Lynch Mob is George Lynch, Sean McNabb on bass, and Andrew Freeman singing because Oni Logan’s freewheeling style doesn’t fit with Lynch Mob’s recording and touring schedule. You might have seen Andrew fronting Lynch Mob on tour, but this will be first album featuring his vocals. On drums is Jimmy D’Anda, who used to be in another band you’ve heard of. It’s the one doing the Cover Song of the Week. A sneaky hint there.

Remember: The first clue is always the hardest, though it’s technically your second clue as I dropped a pretty big hint just a few minutes ago.

The Platinum-selling band doing the Cover Song of the Week was formed in Los Angeles in 1986 by former members of Ratt and King Kobra. Their 1988 self-titled debut album was an instant success with the four-piece band’s brand of Bluesy Hard Rock coupled with Glam looks and an animated, bleached blonde, pretty boy frontman often compared to David Lee Roth. Over the years, that frontman has been the only original member to remain, with a revolving door of members including Steven Adler, DJ Ashba, and 5FDP’s Jason Hook.

This next artist set a Rock N Roll record this week. They’re the first unsigned band to land the the Number One spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. If you’re in a band and thinking you’ll never make it without a label, think again. Dirty Honey’s “When I’m Gone” has spent 21 weeks on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart so far, and this week they climbed to the most coveted spot, all by doing it themselves, without a label backing them.

Here’s another Cover Song of the Week clue.

The Cover Song of the Week original has a few historical notes. First, it was a hit by itself when released in 1973 by an R&B trio that later gave the world the first Disco hit, “Love Train.” Donald Trump, prior to becoming President of the United States, became associated with both “Love Train” and the Cover Song of the Week original. His 2016 campaign used “Love Train” at the Republican Convention, which upset the group and caused them to denounce Trump. Prior to that, the same R&B trio’s song–the Cover Song of the Week original–was used as the theme song for Trump’s TV Show, NBC’s The Apprentice.

Remember that show? Do you remember the very catchy Rhythm and Blues theme song? That’s the Cover Song of the Week.

Think about it during this triple-shot of tracks ending with a brand new release from Mike Portnoy-anchored supergroup Flying Colors.

I’m Pariah Burke. Have you ever heard of a band called Murderer’s Row?

Sharing a name with the teams of the late-1920s New York Yankees, Murderer’s Row was a one-and-done supergroup. When vocalist Graham Bonnet quit and effectively ended the supergroup Blackthorne in the mid-90s, the remaining members formed Murderer’s Row with a new vocalist. It was Bob Kulick who played guitar for WASP, Kiss, Loud Reed, and pretty much everybody else when they needed an extra six strings; Chuck Wright of House of Lords; Giuffria vocalist David Glen Eisley; and, on drums, Hurricane’s Jay Schellen replacing Frankie Banali before recording Murderer’s Row’s first and only album.

That one and only album is incredibly hard to find. It’s just been remastered for 2019, but even THAT is hard to find. If you like this next song, “India,” hit the show notes on PariahRocks.com for a link to where you can get it. This is Murderer’s Row.

Ready for more old-is-new music?

With next month marking the 30th anniversary of Whitesnake’s Slip of the Tongue LP, the record has been remastered and re-released (again). You may recall the 20th Anniversary remaster in 2009. This 2019 version DOES have different mixes than the 2009 version. Here’s one of them, the 2019 remaster version of 1989 power ballad hit “The Deeper the Love.”

That was brand new Eclipse, “The Masquerade.” Eclipse’s new album Paradigm comes out October 11th. I got an advanced copy, and I can’t stop listening to it. I’m a big fan of Eclipse, and this record is their best to date. Without a single skippable track on the disc. Check it out.

The Cover Song of the Week is right around the corner, which means it’s time for your third and final clue.

I told you the covering artist dropped their self-titled debut album in 1988. The Cover Song of the Week was the first single they released, though it’s the album’s second single that caught everyone’s attention. That second single is about… Well, let’s be honest: It’s a song about my favorite activity. It even beats playing music and drinking. Which is why I get in so much trouble with husbands, fathers, and BEING an unexpected father.

That other single began like this:

You know who that band is. What was their other big single from the album that gave us that song?

The Cover Song of the Week original is one of my favorite 70s Funk songs. Part of the reason for that is the really cool bass line, achieved by using a wah-wah with the bass and then recording that through an Eventide phaser. The song also used a Jimmy Page trick wherein a reversed echo of the background vocals precedes the vocal.

It’s a unique and musically sophisticated song with a timeless message often misinterpreted as a celebration of the pursuit of money. If you actually listen to the lyrics of “For the Love of Money,” the meaning is clear–the pursuit of money is the road to ruin.

The original artist is the O’Jays, a trio that helped define the Philadelphia Soul sound and, for good or ill, gave the world the first hit of Disco.

The song’s chorus was used as the theme song for NBC’s reality show The Apprentice starring a pre-politics Donald Trump.

Before that, in 1988, a cover of “For the Love of Money” was the first single from the BulletBoys self-titled debut album. Here they are, the BulletyBoys doing the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week, “For the Love of Money,” followed immediately by the O’Jays’ original.
