[INTRO]

We’re going back to school–“Rock School”–with rare hair from Australian Metalliers Heaven.

—————————————-
Heaven – Rock School
—————————————-

Metal with saxophone from 1983, that was Heaven with “Rock School” kicking off the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show number 217 titled “Back to School,” because, much to the relief of parents everywhere, pretty much every kid is back to school now.

[Clip – Weird Science – Chips Dips Chains and Whips]

I’d also like to give a shoutout to the newest stations airing the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. There’s 97 Underground, rocking the hell out of Baltimore, The Animal Classic Rock shaking the foundations of Birmingham, Alabama, and bouncing my voice all around the rolling hills of the Constitution State, Connecticut’s Digital Revolution Radio.

[Clip – Mean Girls – Im popular]

Let’s get back to the music.

[Clip – Dazed and Confused – High School Girls]

—————————————-
Winger – Seventeen
Britny Fox – Girlschool
—————————————-

Britny Fox and “Girlschool” following Winger and “Seventeen”. The movie sound clips make those songs extra creepy, don’t they? [laugh]

How about something a little more recent and then your first Cover Song of the Week clue? We’ll do both in just two minutes. I’ll be right back.

[BREAK 1]

I’m Pariah Burke

[Clip]

And this is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

This is Motorhead guitarist Phil Cambell with his new song, “These Old Boots.” It features Phil’s friend Dee Snider on vocals.

—————————————-
Phil Campbell/Dee Snyder – These Old Boots
Tense Machine – Bottom Of The Bottle
—————————————-

That was “Bottom of the Bottle” from a band I’m really excited about, Tense Machine. That’s the third song from their debut EP. The guys are working on a full LP coming out soon.

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week is kind of a rarity by a massively popular band. It was originally released only on one continent back in 1975. There it stayed for the most part until a 1997 box set brought the track to the world. It was included on an album titled Volts, the fourth of five discs in the box set, which celebrates the best works of the box set band’s original singer.

Who was releasing music in ’75? Who put out a box set in ’97? That’s the artist doing the Cover Song of the Week.

More–and easier–clues later.

Speaking of covers, let’s do a double-shot of covers. This is Motley Crue right after Judas Priest with a cover they did for the 1988 Anthony Michael Hall star vehicle of the same name. It’s “Johnny B. Goode.”

—————————————-
Judas Priest – Johnny B. Goode
Mötley Crüe – Smokin’ in the Boys Room
—————————————-

[Clip – Dazed & Confused – you cool man.mp3]

“Smoking in the Boys Room”, originally by Brownsville Station, made much more famous by the Crue.

This next song is the number 1 Rock song in the world right now. It’s Disturbed with “No More.”

—————————————-
Disturbed – No More
—————————————-

Number 1 this week, Disturbed and “No More.”

Do you know what kind of a standup guy Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson is? I’ll tell you about something that just happened at an Iron Maiden concert right after this.

[BREAK 2]

We’re back to Hard, Heavy & Hair, the “Back to School special.” I’m Pariah Burke.

[Clip – Ferris Bueller – They all adore him Righteous dude]

That’s right. You know who else is a righteous dude? Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson. He stopped the Maiden concert in Seattle last week when he saw a concert goer, whom he described as a kid, get hit in the face and head multiple times by as many as 10 security guards and Tacoma Dome personnel.

Someone in the crowd took video of Bruce’s outrage over the incident. You can watch it in the show notes for Hard, Heavy & Hair number 217 on PariahRocks.com.

If you happen to have been at that September 5th show in Seattle/Tacoma AND you got photos or video of the guy being beaten or what led up to it, Iron Maiden wants you to send it to them so that they can get it to the kid or his attorney and help go after the apparently brutal venue security people.

[Clip – Bill and Teds – Iron Maiden]

Maiden is currently on tour with a show that is nothing less than a Metal spectacle. A couple of songs in their set come from the Powerslave album, which turned 35 years old this month. This is one of my favorites from that record, “Aces High.”

—————————————-
Iron Maiden – Aces High
The Treatment – Bite Back
—————————————-

“Bite Back,” the latest from The Treatment, a band that used to be called God Sacks Man.

On this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show it’s back to school. Do you remember school? What were you listening to? One of my favorite albums was Def Leppard’s Pyromania. During class I would conceal a Walkman in my jean jacket with a single ear bud lacing under my arm and up the back of my neck, hidden by my hair.

This was one of my favorite tracks. It’s “Foolin” from Def Leppard.

—————————————-
Def Leppard – Foolin’
—————————————-

Coming up in the second hour of the show is more new music, more hits, more deep cuts. You’ll hear the Cover Song of the Week–along with two more clues before it–as well as Skid Row, Ozzy, new Sleeping With Sirensns, Extreme, Angel, Madam X, and more on this Hard, Heavy & Hair “Back to School” episode.

[BREAK 3 (Bottom of Hour)]

I’m Pariah Burke.

[Clip – The Breakfast Club – Elephantitis of the nuts]

We’re going “Back to School” on Hard, Heavy & Hair with Ace Frehley.

—————————————-
Ace Frehley – Back to School

[Clip – Bill and Teds – Get Eddie Van Halen]

Van Halen – Hot for Teacher
—————————————-

Mm-mm. Michelle Major, former Algebra teacher, on the slim chance you’re out there listening, every day for an entire school year you made it very difficult and embarrassing for me to get up from my desk.

[Clip – Waynes World – Schwing2]

Something I DIDN’T have in high school was access to the top shelf bourbon I drink now. [ahh]

Here’s your second Cover Song of the Week clue.

Many people think the title of the Cover Song of the Week is “Hail, Hail Rock N Roll,” but it isn’t. It’s just the first line of the last verse, though in the cover version, which is twice the length of the original, the “Hail, Hail Rock N Roll” is sung many more times by one of the greatest frontmen of all time and one of the greatest Heavy Metal vocalists of all time.

Think about that while we do some new Sleeping With Sirensns. This is “Agree to Disagree.”

—————————————-
Sleeping With Sirensns – Agree To Disagree
—————————————-

Taylor Swift fans outraged that “unknown band” Tool knocked her new album out of the number 1 spot of the Billboard Top Albums chart. Tool’s last album was 13 years ago, which was before most Swifties began listening to music, so they don’t know who Tool is.

[Clip – Heathers – What’s the Up Chuck Factor]

In a related case of younger music fans being totally out of touch with Rock N Roll… Well, have you heard the collaboration between Ozzy Osbourne and rapper Post Malone? Here’s a little clip from it.

[Clip – Take What You Want]

Post Malone was born in 1995, and many of his fans don’t know who Ozzy is, despite Ozzy’s reality TV show, commercials, star on the walk of fame, being a godfather of Heavy Metal, and being one of the greatest damned Metal singers of all time!

Listen to this:

Edd with two Ds tweets “who tf is Ozzy Osbourne??? This is why I love Post Malone for shining light on unknown artists.”

[Clip – Fast Times Ridgemont High – Gnarly]

Rick Dalton, whose Twitter handle is DennistheWolff for some reason, said “IDK” that’s I Don’t Know for you old farts “IDK who this Ozzy Osbourne guy is, but Posty just put him on the map”.

[Clip – Bill and Teds – Bogus]

A teenage girl, Lin, tweeted “Listening to Post Malone. Who is this Ozzy Osbourne guy? He’s so good. He’s gonna be”–and this next part is all caps–“FAMOUS AND POPULAR.”

[Clip – Fast Times Ridgemont High – Are You People On Dope]

Maybe Rock really is dead. Most kids these days don’t know anything but HipHop.

[Clip – Ferris Bueller – Dont think twice tolerate person like you]

One kid that DOES know about Rock N Roll is Justin B. in Albequerque, New Mexico. Justin is 14 years old, and he says he’s a fan of Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, and, yes, Ozzy. This one’s for you, Justin. Ozzy is “Flying High Again.”

—————————————-
Ozzy Osbourne – Flying High Again
—————————————-

We’ll definitely be back with more new songs and old favorites after this because

[Clip – Mean Girls – cancel Spring fling already paid the dj] [BREAK 4]

Right now, I’ve got old Roxx Gang and recent Puddle of Mudd right after the latest from Crashdiet. This is “Idiots.”

—————————————-
Crashdiet – Idiots [Explicit] Puddle Of Mudd – Uh Oh (Come Clean Version)
Roxx Gang – Too Cool for School
—————————————-

Roxx Gang “Too Cool for School” following “Uh Oh” from Puddle of Mudd.

The Cover Song of the Week, Skid Row, Sebastian Bach’s band before Skid Row, and more right after this.

Welcome back. I’m Pariah Burke.

[Clip – The Breakfast Club – Heard a Ruckus]

That ruckus would be the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, and it sounds something like this.

—————————————-
Skid Row – 18 and Life
Rockett Love – Back on my Feet
—————————————-

New Rockett Love “Back on My Feet.” Rockett Love is a new Melodic Hard Rock band out of Sweden. Their new album, Greetings from Rocketland, mixed by Eclipse’s Erik Martensson, is out from AOR Heaven this month.

[Clip – Weird Science – Never toss off]

It’s been confirmed that Guns N Roses has contributed a new, original song to the soundtrack of Terminator: Dark Fate, the umpteenth franchise reboot attempt coming out November 1st. I don’t mean to bury the lead there. There’s new music coming by Guns N Roses! The first with Axl AND Slash since the early 90s!

AND, I’ve heard it. I can’t play it for you. I’m not allowed, unfortunately. I tried, but the answer I got was…

[Clip – Ferris Bueller – Principal Dont like my policies smooch my white butt]

I heard an early mix of a new G N R song last month, and judging by the lyrics, I’m betting its the one in the Terminator movie. I would imagine the band will release the song in advance of the movie, so look for that in the coming weeks.

[Clip – Terminator – Hasta La Vista Baby]

This next band used to have Sebastian Bach on vocals before he sang for Skid Row. In this single from their 1984 debut album, its their first singer Bret Kaiser on vocals. Bas, Madam X’s third and final vocalist in the 80s, wouldn’t join up until after Kaiser left. By that time, founding drummer Roxy Petrucci had also left for Vixen, so Madam X folded in 1988. That is, until 2014 when the original lineup, including Roxy and Bret, reunited and signed too EMP Label Group in 2017. I’ll play something from their heavier, harder 2017 album very soon on an upcoming Hard, Heavy & Hair.

This is “High in High School” from 1984.

[Clip – Fast Times Ridgemont High – Get A Job, Need Waves, Bud]

—————————————-
Madam X – High In High School
—————————————-

80s Glamsters Madam X with “High in High School.”

We’re almost to the Cover Song of the Week, so here are three hints to get you even closer to solving the mystery.

The artist doing the Cover Song of the Week is from Down Under, a band often singing about the imagery of explosions and electricity.

The artist who wrote and originally released the Cover Song of the Week back in 1957 is the same one who wrote another song you heard covered on this show not too long ago, a song covered by Judas Priest.

And, finally, about the song itself… Well, the theme and title of this Hard, Heavy & Hair episode is “Back to School,” and the song fits right into that theme.

All will be revealed right after this.

[Clip – Ferris Bueller – Singing nurse who likes to fuck] [BREAK 5] [COW]

Did you guess the Cover Song of the Week, the original recording artist, or the artist doing the Harder, Heavier or Hairier cover version?

This week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show is called “Back to School,” with a thread of school-related songs running through it. The Cover Song of the Week is no exception.

Written back in 1957 by one of the great pioneers of Rock N Roll, the same who wrote “Johnny B. Goode,” which you heard Judas Priest cover earlier in the show, the song is “School Days” by Check Berry. The full title is “School Days (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)” but Bon Scott-led AC/DC shortened it to just School Days when they covered the song on their TNT album. That 1975 record was released only in Australia, but AC/DC’s 1997 boxed set included it on a disc devoted to Bon Scott’s work with the band.

Here’s “School Days,” first the 75 version by AC/DC, then the original 57 release by Chuck Berry. The Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

—————————————-

That was “School Days (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)”, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. That was the original version by Chuck Berry following the cover by AC/DC from back in the Bon Scott era.

Remember Angel from the 70s?

[Clip – Dazed & Confused – Cooler if you did McConaughey]

They dressed all in white and were led by Punkie Meadows. Well, they’re back again with a brand new record coming out October 4th. This is the first single from that album, “Under the Gun.”
