“The Power,” Warrant’s contribution to the 1992 film Gladiator–NOT the Russell Crowe Gladiator film.

Rare Hair from Giuffria and Diemonds
Hits & Deep Cuts from Stryper, Gorky Park, Tesla, Rush, Dio, Quiet Riot, Warrant, XYZ, Hammerfall, and More
A new supergroup formed by current and former members of Danger Danger
New music from the younger brothers of Quiet Riot

Let’s do one of those brand new songs now. Here’s the very latest from Bad Wolves, “Killing Me Slowly.”

—————————————-
Bad Wolves – Killing Me Slowly
—————————————-

Brand new Bad Wolves. If you own Disobey, Bad Wolves debut album, and don’t recognize that song, it’s because “Killing Me Slowly” is not a track on Disobey. It’s the first single off their NEXT album, N.A.T.I.O.N., which you can get your hands on October 25th. I’ll be picking it up. You can preorder it from the show notes for this, Hard, Heavy & Hair number 216, on PariahRocks.com.

In fact, you can own any song I play on Hard, Heavy & Hair just by clicking the link in the playlist in the show notes. Get the songs or stream from Amazon or Apple Music.

Here’s a classic from Tesla’s second album, The Great Radio Controversy, which turned 30 this year. This is “Hang Tough” on Hard, Heavy & Hair. I’m Pariah Burke.

Brand new Airbourne is next, right after this.

Welcome back. This is “Boneshaker,” the brand new track from Australian four-piece Airbourne.

—————————————-
Airbourne – Boneshaker
XYZ – Inside Out
Dio – Rainbow in the Dark
—————————————-

“Rainbow in the Dark” from Dio. It was 10 years ago Ronnie James Dio played his final show. Touring with Black Sabbath fellows Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice under the name Heaven and Hell, Ronnie played the House of Blues in Atlantic City on August 29th, 2009. The following May, he lost a valiant battle against cancer. Ronnie lives on through his music like that masterpiece.

I’ve got your first Cover Song of the Week clue coming up after Hammerfall, “One Against the World.”

—————————————-
HammerFall – One Against The World
—————————————-

Hammerfall there. We’ve got to take a short break, but when we come back, I’ll have your first Cover Song of the Week clue for you as well as one of Quiet Riot’s greatest songs.

On the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show we play a game, a little mystery, called the Cover Song of the Week. Each week I play a Hard, Heavy, or Hairy cover version of someone else’s song–and the original can be from any musical genre–later in the show. Leading up to the Cover Song of the Week segment in… just over an hour… I give you hints and clues so that YOU can hopefully solve the mystery before I reveal all. Can you guess the Cover Song of the Week, the artist doing the cover, and the original artist? Let’s find out.

This first clue is always the hardest, the one for people who, like me, have heads full of obscure Rock trivia. Here it is.

The melodic Hard Rock and 80s Hair band performing the Cover Song of the Week has been around since the 80s, starting their career with a 1985 self-released record before following it up with a successful major label debut in 1988. What makes them most recognizable, however, is the fact that this band includes not one but two younger brothers of members of Quiet Riot. On guitar is Robert Sarzo, Rudy Sarzo’s younger brother, as well as Tony Cavazo, little bro to Quiet Riot’s Carlos Cavazo.

While you ponder what band features the younger Sarzo and Cavazo, let’s hear from their older brothers. This is Quiet Riot.

—————————————-
Quiet Riot – Metal Health
Diemonds – Secret
—————————————-

Diemonds and “Secret” following “Metal Health” from the classic Quiet Riot lineup with Kevin Dubrow on vocals and the older brothers of the Cover Song of the Week artist playing guitars and bass.

The summer, my dear friends, is over. This… well, it kind bums me out. Summer is my favorite season for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that its bikini season, and braless season. After Labor Day, though, the temperatures start getting cooler, and women start covering up. [Sigh] That’s sad. Damn sad. Fortunately–and this is me thanking all the gods of any religion–yoga pants are worn year round.

For a lot of you–especially suburban white chicks–the end of Summer marks the start of YOUR favorite season–pumpkin spice latte season. So go get your fix at your local coffee drive thru.

I’m not a fan pumpkin spice coffee (it tends to clash with the bourbon I add), but Fall does have one very bright spot for me–my favorite holiday–Halloween. And you can bet your Metal-loving ass I’m going to have a hauntingly hellacious 2019 Hard, Heavy & Hair Halloween Special for you. You don’t want to miss that. To give you a chance to play the Halloween special over and over again and get into the spirit, it’s coming up BEFORE Halloween. Not Halloween City store early, but soon, in a few weeks. Keep tuning in to Hard, Heavy & Hair and me right here so you don’t miss it.

To give you a preview of the dark of that show, let’s hear something brand new from my buddies in Last Nights Villain. This is “Within a Shadow.”

[Drop – LNV]

Dark and moody “Within a Shadow,” the very latest from LNV, Last Nights Villain.

Coming up in this next hour is:

A new supergroup formed by current and former members of Danger Danger
New music from the younger brothers of Quiet Riot
as well as Wildstreet, Stryper, Rush, Guiffria, Gorky Park, and more.

I’m Pariah Burke. You’re listening to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. And this is Stryper, right after we do a few lines with brand new Wildstreet. This is “Tennessee Cocaine.”

—————————————-
Wildstreet – Tennesse Cocaine
Stryper – Honestly
—————————————-

Do I NEED to back intro that song? Well, probably not for your benefit, but the FCC says I have to, and I piss off the FCC enough with this show, don’t I?

So, last song was, of course, “Honestly” from Stryper.

Here’s your second Cover Song of the Week clue.

The original song is a collaboration between two of Rock N Roll’s greatest singers of all time, both of whom, sadly, no longer walk this Earth with us. One of those icons was born David Robert Jones while the other was born Farrokh Bulsara. Both are household names, but under their stage names, not their given names. Who are they?

More and easier clues coming up.

Right now, before I play you a Rush classic, here’s another new debut. The Defiants is a supergroup, though all the members come from Danger Danger. It’s Rob Marcello on lead guitar, Bruno Ravel on bass and keyboards, and second Danger Danger vocalist Paul Laine singing. This track, “U X’d My Heart” features guest Steve West, also of Danger Danger.

I’m Pariah Burke.

The Defiants – U X’d My Heart
Rush – Tom Sawyer

“Tom Sawyer” by Rush following something new by the Defiants.

Apparently I’ve ticked off a bunch of trolls on Facebook. What else is new, right?

In a Hard Rock and Glam Facebook group someone started a thread asking others to, quote, “name a group that doesn’t deserve the fame it gets.”

I answered Hipsters. Hipsters is a group that doesn’t deserve the fame it gets. I mean, they’re all just snobby, whining clones of each other with cookie cutter beards, H&M store cards, and special snowflake, self-righteous attitudes toward anything anybody else thinks is cool. Amiright?!

Right. So why are bunch of people flaming me for saying so? Jeez.

Anyway. We’ll be right back with more new tunes and old favorites.

I’m Pariah Burke. This is Hard, Heavy & Hair.

A moment ago I was talking about Hipsters. I’d like to dedicate this song to the clone troopers who call themselves Hipsters. This is Roxanne with guest vocals by Doug Pinnick of King’s X. “Go F Yourself” is the title.

Counterfeit – Romeo
—————————————-

“Romeo” by Counterfeit from 2017.

I’m Pariah Burke, and we’ll be right back with brand new Eclipse and rare hair from Giuffria.

Welcome back. I’m Pariah Burke. This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, show number 216, the first of Fall 2019. Not only is this a new show, it’s also loaded with new music, like this one, the latest from Swedish rockers Eclipse paying tribute to an old English queen. This is “Viva la Victoria.”

—————————————-
Eclipse – Viva La Victoria
—————————————-

I was talking about how its now pumpkin spice latte season. Most of the time I make breakfast or at least coffee for the women who spend the night at my house. Yesterday, I was out of coffee, so the chick and I head to a Black Rock coffee drive through in her car. We pull up, giving the hot, maybe 22 year old barrister our order. I hand my credit card to my friend in the driver’s seat while also remarking that the barrister is covered in tattoos. And she was, all up and down both arms and legs, which were quite visible beneath the cutoff shorts. I also have a Black Rock loyalty account under my phone number, so I tell the lady I’m with to give the barrister my phone number. She–the woman I spent the night with–gets pissed. It took me a second, but I got why. So, from her perspective, here’s what happened.

A hot barrister leans out and takes our order. I say, “wow, she’s got tattoos ALLL over. Here’s my credit card. Give her my phone number, too.”

My friend goes: “Really?! I know it was a one-night stand, but I’m sitting RIGHT. HERE.”

I apologized, explained what I meant, and smoothed things over with some cunning linguistics in her backseat on a side street.

In my defense, I hadn’t had coffee yet–that was the whole reason we were at the drivethru–and I wasn’t yet firing on all cylinders. Maybe I should have played her this next song, rare hair from Giuffria, before saying goodbye to her forever that afternoon.

“The Fight Master,” the newest from After the Fall on RFL Records.

Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?

The original song was the subject of controversy in 1990, kicking off an industry-wide debate about sampling, when rapper Vanilla Ice sampled the Cover Song of the Week original’s distinctive bassline for his hit single “Ice Ice Baby.” The sampling wasn’t authorized, and he didn’t pay royalties to the Rock icons who wrote it. It didn’t even credit them for writing the bassline that featured so prominently into “Ice Ice Baby.” A copyright infringement suit was threatened, of course, resulting in an out-of-court settlement wherein the M&M pre-cursor had to give songwriting credit to the afore-alluded-to Rock icons for the sample as well as pay them royalties going forward. There was probably also some lump sum recompensation at the time.

Do you remember that controversy? What song was at the heart of it? Who did Vanilla Ice have to pay and credit for the first HipHop song to ever reach Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart?

[Clip – Ice, Ice, Baby]

You’ll hear the song at the center of that controversy–not Vanilla Ice’s version, of course–covered right after a word from our sponsors in a brand new Melodic Hard Rock version by an 80s band still going strong.

We’ll be right back.

[COW]

Did you figure out the Cover Song of the Week? How about the original artist or the band doing the cover?

The song so famously sampled by Vanilla Ice, the original performed by two true legends of Rock N Roll, is “Under Pressure,” the collaboration between David Bowie and Queen, featuring Bowie and Freddie Mercury singing a duet.

The artist doing the harder, heavier, and hairier cover is an 80s Metal band that includes the younger brothers of two Quiet Riot members. The band… Hurricane.. is Chad Cancino on vocals, Jay Schellen on drums, and Robert Sarzo, younger brother of Rudy Sarzo, on guitar with bassist Tony Cavazo, who is the younger brother of classic lineup Quiet Riot’s guitarist Carlos Cavazo.

This is a new track out just a few days ago. It’s Hurricane doing “Under Pressure” followed by the original Bowie and Queen classic on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

That was “Under Pressure”, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. That was the original version by Queen and David Bowie following the brand new cover by a reunited Hurricane.

Speaking of new music, here’s another new one. This is Platinum Overdose with “Rise Up” from their 2019 debut LP, Murder in High Heels, available now on Demon Doll Records.
