[INTRO]

It’s time to give it the gain, turn up the master, we’re starting with Warrant, “Louder Harder Faster”

—————————————-
Warrant – Louder Harder Faster
—————————————-

From Warrant’s 2017 album of the same name, that was “Louder Harder Faster.”

Thank you for tuning in. This is the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, show number 2 hundred and 10. The Hard, Heavy & Hair Show is YOUR weekly does of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens.

My name is Pariah Burke and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonistic host.

And I want to give a welcome to the newest member of the Hard, Heavy & Hair family. I’m now kicking ass on Mexican airwaves, too on Sonora Classic Rock.

Hola, Sonora! Tu rock, amigos!

[clip Mexican Radio]

I’ll tell you what’s coming up on the show after RATT with “Body Talk.”

—————————————-
Ratt – Body Talk
—————————————-

Over the next 2 hours you’ll hear brand new music, huge hits, deep cuts, and rare hair. In the first hour alone you’ll hear

including new Black Top Mojo,

a Cruel CRUE summer

Hits and deep cuts from Disturbed, Meytal, Van Halen, MSG, Skid Row, Black Veil Brides, Europe, Britney Fox, and more!

Rare hair from the likes of Wild Side and Rhino Bucket, and much more.

From the 80s to 2018, this is Black Veil Brides, “The Last One” followed by Year of the Locust.

—————————————-
Black Veil Brides – The Last One
Year Of The Locust – Stay Alive
—————————————-

“Stay Alive” from Year Of The Locust. That track features guest appearances by Tesla’s drummer Troy Luccketta and Brian Bonds from Florida-Georgia Line. The regular lineup of Year Of The Locust is Scotty Mac on vocals, Chevy Hyde playing lead guitar, Fred Sorrow on bass, drummer Dusty Winterrowd, and on rhythm guitar, a man by the name of The Outlaw.

Year Of The Locust says their sound evolved to fill the void left wide open by a world flooded with heavy-screaming bands and limp rock. With pounding riffage and lyrics soaked with introspection, substance is apparent in their music.

I’ve got your first Cover Song of the Week clue coming up right after Disturbed and Meytal. This is “No More” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Disturbed – No More
Meytal – Thy Will Be Done
—————————————-

YouTube Metal drumming phenom made good Meytal Cohen has her own band with original music now. That was a deep cut, “Thy Will Be Done,” from their all new 2019 album The Witness.

And here’s your first Cover Song fo the Week clue.

Let me start by saying the Cover Song of the Week original is one of the most famous songs in the world. If you’ve EVER listened to a Top 40, Rock, or Classic Rock radio station in your life for more than a couple of hours, you HAVE heard this song. Hell, if you watch TV or use social media you’ve heard this song. Most of us know it word-for-word, and just about everyone can sing the chorus–almost on reflex.

Keep that in mind throughout the rest of the clues. Now for a proper clue, the most difficult of them all, the one for those like me whose minds catalog libraries of Rock N’ Roll trivia and minutia.

Originally released in the Fall of 1982, this single would be certified Gold a decade later. That means the song moved half a million units. For most songs, that’s quite an accomplishment. For this song, it was just the start. Thirty-six years after it’s release, in October 2018, this song was certified QUADRUPLE PLATINUM by the RIAA–the 1982 song sold more than 4 MILLION units, mostly in the last few years!

This song was written by the original recording artist band members David Paich and Jeff Porcaro.

Again, the first clue is always the hardest. They get easier from here.

Cruel Crue Summer is coming up. For now, it’s Van Halen from their second album, 1980’s Women and Children First. This is “Everybody Wants Some!!,” which also appeared in Zombieland and soundtracking an awesome claymation scene in 1985’s Better Off Dead.

—————————————-
Van Halen – Everybody Wants Some!!
McAuley-Schenker Group – Gimme Your Love
—————————————-

McAuley-Schenker Group from their 1987 debut record Perfect Timing. Man, that song takes me back. “Gimme Your Love” was the first single MSG released. It got a fair amount of radio play from the Winter of ’87 through the summer of ’88, but hasn’t been heard much since. Andy Johns, who worked with the Rolling Stones, Free, and on several Led Zeppelin records, produced that MSG debut album. He also produced Cinderella’s first two albums, a couple of records for Joe Satriani, Godsmack’s 2006 album IV, as well as Van Halen’s ’91 For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge with Sammy Hagar. AND, Andy Johns produced this next song, long out of print, but, of course, not missing from my library.

My thanks to original Wildside guitarist Benny Rhynedance for helping track down the entire album. Wildside was another of those would-have-been-great new 80s Rock bands that hit the scene just as Grunge was dynamiting the scene. From their 1992 debut record Under the Influence, which is not a covers album though you’d be forgiven for thinking it was, this is rare hair “Hang On Lucy” from Wildside.

—————————————-
WildSide – Hang On Lucy
—————————————-

Can you imagine if that song had dropped in ’87 or ’86 instead of ’92? While on tour supporting that record in ’93 the band’s label, Capitol Records, dropped them. That was the climate of the time. 80s Arena Rock and Glam was out, Grunge was in. Rhythm guitarist Brent Woods, whose contribution to the band is obscured on the official Facebook page by listing only the initials B and W followed by blank lines, quit to join Vince Neil’s solo band in ’93. Now he plays guitar for Sebastian Bach, including on this song, which Brent and Bas are playing on the 30th Anniversary Tour celebrating Skid Row’s 1989 debut record.

—————————————-
Skid Row – Can’t Stand the Heartache
—————————————-

How about another Cover Song of the Week clue and then some newer Hard and Heavys?

This one is about the 5-piece band doing the Hard, Heavy, or Hairy cover version.

This German Heavy and Glam Metal band was formed in 1972 by two brothers and was originally called Cacumen, which is a Latin term that means “top of the mountain.” At the urging of their record label, the band changed its name in 1986 to something more marketable and easier to pronounce.

Though they were never a hugely popular band, many Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Band fans like their music and know their hits, songs like these:

[Clips – Bonfire]

Who is that band? They continue to record today, because the Cover Song of the Week comes from their October 2018 covers album titled Legends.

Good luck!

This is Seether “Betray and Degrade.”

—————————————-
Seether – Betray and Degrade
Inglorious – While She Sleeps
—————————————-

Damn! That’s some good stuff. New cut “While She Sleeps” from Inglorious. You might recognize the voice of Inglorious from his time with Trans-Siberian Orchestra. That was Nathan James along with Phil Beaver on drums, bassist Vinnie Colla, Danny Dela Cruze on lead guitar, and Dan Stevens on second guitar. “While She Sleeps” is from the British band’s third album, 2019’s Ride to Nowhere.

Here’s the latest from Badflower, “The Jester,” the fourth single from their debut album.

—————————————-
Badflower – The Jester (Radio Edit)
Thrice – Hold Up A Light
—————————————-

“Hold Up A Light” from Palms, the tenth studio album by Thrice. That album was Number 1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums chart back in September.

Still coming up is the Cover Song of the Week, rare hair from Rhino Bucket, Cruel Crue Summer, new Blacktop Mojo, Europe, Atreyu, Britney Fox, and more.

This summer is a Cruel Crue Summer. Every week this summer on Hard, Heavy & Hair I’m going to play for you a double-shot of Motley Crue, one hit, one rarity or deep cut. Let’s start with the unmistakable Motley masterpiece “Primal Scream” before a truly great deep Crue cut.

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Primal Scream
Mötley Crüe – Danger
—————————————-

That was “Danger,” a Crue deep cut from Shout At the Devil, which sits at number 44 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.

Next week I’ll have for you another Motley hit and another deep or rare Crue cut on an all new Cruel Crue Summer.

To help you remember, here’s Downplay with their cover of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer.”

—————————————-
Downplay – Cruel Summer
Cold – Shine
—————————————-

That, boys and girls and non-binary gendered listeners, was Cold. They started in 1998, broke up, got back together, changed all the members except vocalist Scooter Ward, and are still going. Their sixth studio album, The Things We Can’t Stop, drops September 13th–Friday the 13th. The uplifting single “Shine” is the first from that album.

The year has gone so fast… I say the album drops in September and I think, “wow, that’s far off.” But it’s not. September is just over a month away. Can you believe we’re almost into August already?

We’re also almost to the Cover Song of the Week, and we’re counting down to the final clue, which I’ll get you after rare hair from Rhino Bucket and the “Final Countdown” from Europe.

—————————————-
Europe – The Final Countdown
Rhino Bucket – Beat to Death Like a Dog
—————————————-

Rare hair there, “Beat to Death Like a Dog” from 1992’s Get Used to It album on Reprise Records. Rhino Bucket was another band that could have gone a lot further if they’d come out sooner. One of the tracks from that record was featured in the movie and multi-platinum soundtrack to Wayne’s World.

I’ve got brand new Blacktop Mojo for you right after your final Cover Song of the Week clue.

This is the easiest clue of them all–it’s multiple clues in one, actually.

After a massive Twitter campaign of fan requests, the band Weezer (who is NOT the covering band this week) covered the this song last year. Their version hit Number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song’s lyrics were written by David Paich who said he wrote them after watching, quote, “a late night documentary on TV about all the terrible death and suffering of the people in Africa. It both moved and appalled me and the pictures just wouldn’t leave my head. I tried to imagine how I’d feel about if I was there and what I’d do.” End quote.

As a child in Catholic school, several of Paich’s teachers had done missionary work on the Dark Continent, which became the inspiration for the song’s chorus, something or other about blessing the rains or whatnot. [chuckle] C’mon! How obvious do you want me to be?

Ready for brand new Blacktop Mojo? Here it is on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Blacktop Mojo – Can’t Sleep
—————————————-

What a great new song from Blacktop Mojo. I’d love to see those guys live, but they aren’t coming anywhere near me in the near future. They ARE on tour in MOST of the US all through the rest of July, August, and September. If you’re in Texas or anywhere East of it, you can catch them live. Anyone West or Northwest of Texas, like me, is out of luck.

[COW]

How did you do guessing the Cover Song of the Week? Did you stop an old man along the way? If you did, he’d turn to you as if to say “Hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you.”

The song is, of course, “Africa” by Toto. The lyrics were written by David Paich after watching an early 80s documentary on Africa that contrasted the horrible living conditions with the primal beauty of the Dark Continent.

Although “Africa” has never been far from the public consciousness with dozens of appearances in film, TV, video games, and social media, it received a major resurgence last year when Weezer covered it after a deluge of fan requests started and coordinated by a 14-year-old girl on Twitter.

German Glam and Heavy Metal band Cacumen… Oh, sorry. That was their old name. German Glam and Heavy Metal band BONFIRE covered “Africa” the same year on their 2018 covers LP Legends. Here they are giving Toto’s “Africa” the Harder, Heavier, Hairier treatment on the Cover Song of the Week.

The original Toto version follows the cover.

—————————————-
Bonfire – Africa
Toto – Africa
—————————————-

The immortal song “Africa,” there by Toto, but before it by German metallers Bonfire on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

Let’s go back to Glam with another underrated 80s band, Britney Fox. Off their 1988 self-titled debut, this is “Girlschool.”

—————————————-
Britney Fox – Girlschool
—————————————-
