Rap metal or heavy rap is a subgenre of rap rock that incorporates the use of heavy metal guitar riffs, funk metal aspects, rap lyrics and turntables. This type of music is basically a fusion of rock and rap in a manner that produces music that is both entertaining and inspirational. Some of the pioneers of this type of music include Beastie Boys, Run D.M.C, Faith No More and Cypress Hill. The music genre gained popularity in the early 90s with the song “Epic” by Faith No More climbing up to number 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Here are some of the most notable rap metal bands in the world today.

5. Papa Roach

This is an American band that was formed in 1993 when the lead singer Jacoby Shaddix met Dave Buckner who was an aspiring drummer at the time. The two were later joined by Jerry Horton who became the lead guitarist and Will James who is the bassist. In the year 2000 it released a triple-platinum album titled “Infest”. The band moved from glory to glory with subsequent singles and albums fascinating fans from around the world. Some of the band’s most popular songs include Time and Time Again, Last Resort, Before I die and Thrown Away.

4. Limp Bizkit

This band hails from Jacksonville, Florida and was formed in the year 1994. Its members include Fred Durst who is the lead vocalists, Sam Rivers who plays bass and doubles up as a backup vocalists and John Otto who plays drums and percussions. Wes Boland is the fourth member of the band and has over the years played the guitar while also providing backup vocals. Some of the most notable songs from this band include My Way, Take a Look Around, My Generation and Break Stuff.

The band was established in 1993 with its membership consisting of James Shaffer, Jonathan Davis, Reginald Arvizu and Brian Welch. Its first album was self titled and managed to win a large number of rap metal fans. The band later produced a second album called “Life is Peachy”. Some of the most popular songs by this band include Freak on a Leash, Here to Stay, Never Never and Coming Undone.

2. System of a Down

This is an Armenian-American band formed in 1994 in Glendale, United States. The band has over the years released five studio albums namely Toxicity, Steal This Album, Mezmerize, Hypnotize and System of a Down. The band’s top album is “Toxicity” which has managed to sell up to 12 million copies since its release. The band has also received over four grammy award nominations for different singles. Some of its top songs include Toxicity, Chop Suey and Spiders.

1. Linkin Park

This is one of the most popular rock bands in the current times. It was formed in 1996. Indeed even fans of other music genres have come across some songs from Linkin Park. Going from alternative metal to rap fusion has earned it a following from a variety of music lovers across the world. The band shot into fame after releasing its first studio album titled “Hybrid Theory”. Despite the tremendous success it seemed to enjoy its lead singer Chester Bennington committed suicide in July of 2017 under unclear circumstances. Some of the band’s top songs include In The End, Numb, Somewhere I belong and Crawling.
